IMPROVEMENT IN TIRE-HEATING FURNACES.
S pecification forming part of Letters Patent No. 153,640, dated July 28, 1874; application filed July 6, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN D. VANDERKARR, of Rochester, in the county of Fulton and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tire-Heating Machines; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accom panying drawings, which form part of this specification.
The nature of my invention relates to an improvement in furnaces for heating tires; and it consists in the arrangement and combination of devices, which will be more fully described hereafter, whereby the tires are kept constantly turning around, so as to bring every part equally in contact with the fire.
The accompanying drawings represent my invention.
a represents a suitable upright frame, of the usual shape and construction, having .a furnace, 0, formed in its bottom, the heat and smoke of which pass up through the two circular passages and escape through the pipe at at the top. In the upper part of the frame, immediately below the pipe d, are placed two rollers, at, one immediately above the other, upon which the tires, of different sizes, are hung, as shown. These rollers are suitably journaled in theframe, and have eacha grooved pulley, 0, attached to its rear end, over which the operating-chain E passes from the small pulley g, formed on the side of the drivingwheel h. This driving-wheel is supported in suitable bearings formed on one side of the frame, and has attached to it a crank or handle, *6, while around its periphery is passed a chain, j, which extends down and passes around a pulley placed upon the end of a fan or other suitable device, I, for supplying the fire with a blast or current of air. By turning the handle the fire is not only blown, but the two rollers upon which the tires are hung are caused to revolve at the same time, so as to bring every part of the tires equally in contact with the heat. By making use of the two rollers, one placed above the other as shown, large and small tires can be heated equally as well at the same time.
Having thus described my invention, I claim The combination of the driving-wheel h i, pulleys 0 9, fan 1, chains E j, and the two independent rollers n, placed in the frame a, substantially as shown and described.
