Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE,
CHARLES NELsoN, OF EAST NEw YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN TOY PISTOLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 153,59'7, dated July 28, 1874; application filed January 17, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES NELSON, of East New York, Kings county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Toy Revolver, of which the following is a specification The accompanying drawing represents a side elevation of my improved toy revolver for paper caps.
The object of my invention is tofurnish for the use of children an improved toy revolver, by which a number of explosive paper caps may be fired off in such a manner as to form a neat and pleasing toy, without any danger of hurt, fire, or accident connected therewith. My invention consists of arranging a toy revolver with a solid rotating cylinder, and providing the same with a number of annular or otherwise shaped side recesses, into which the paper caps are securely placed and discharged in regular order by the action of a hook-shaped hammer striking thereon through a recessed slot of the top part of the revolver.
A in the drawing represents a toy revolver, which is cast or otherwise produced in the cheapest possible manner, and in the shape of the revolvers in common use. The cylinder B is made solid, and rotated by cooking the hammer C in the usual manner. This rotating cylinder B is arranged with a number of annular recesses, a, along the circumference of the same, which recesses are charged with suitable paper caps filled with some explosive compound, and retained therein by a projecting top rim, or in other suitable manner, during the rotation of the cylinder. A slotted recess, b, in the top connectingpiece D admits the forward-extending hook-shaped hammer O, as shown in the drawing, so as to strike centrally into the recesses a, and explode by concussion of the paper caps inserted therein.
The same number of detonations as there are recesses a of the cylinder may be obtained thereby in rapid succession, to the great enjoyment of children, and without the least danger of accident, as the paper caps are entirely harmless in their application.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire tosecure by Letters Patent- A toy pistol having a hook-shaped hammer, O, and the solid rotating cylinder, B, provided with recesses 60 for the reception of paper caps, all constructed and arranged to operate substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
CHARLES N ELSON.
