Be it known that l, VViLLiAnrE. HALE, a citizen oi' the United States, residing at Fort Vilashington, in the county of Montgomery and, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and usefulImprovement in Drag-Scraper itquipments, olf which the tollowing is a specification.

To these and other ends the invention, generally stated, may be said to comprise an elevated railway line, spaced dumping spans interposed in the line, a yard situated in front of the line and comprising two contiguous storage areas with space between them, a powerhouse located in said space, front and back guide pulleys operatively arranged in respect to the powerhouse and respectively located back and front of the line, a front block structure for both stor age areas and each said structure co-operat-V ing with the front guide pulley, and a back block structure under and at the back and tront and ends oi each dumping span and each said structure cobperating with the back guide pulley.
Other objects ot the invention as well as the nature and characteristic features there-- of will appearirom the following description which will be made in connection with the embodiment of the invention chosen for the salie of illustration in the accompanying drawings forming part hereof and in which- Figure 'l isa diagrammatic plan view illustrating drag scraper equipment enibodying the invention, and A Fig. 2 is an end view of one of the dumping spans.
In the accompanying drawings. l is an elevated railway line shown as straight, although it may be curved. 2 and 3 are spaced dumping spans interposed in the line. Each dumping span usually consists of a girder structure a carrying rails and supported at its ends by trestles' or abutment-s 5. `Itis an advantage ot the invention that the girder structures may be con1- paratively short while'at the same time the storage areas are bounded by comparatively wide angles as will appear from the following description. There is a yard situated in `liront of the line and comprising two storage areas with space between them. The powerhouse 6 is located .in that space and a single scraper 7 cooperates with both of the dumping spans and with both of the storage areas. The front and bach guide pulleys 8 and 9 are operatively arranged in respect to the powerhouse 6 and are respectively located at the front and back of the line. A front block structure 10 is provided for both storage areas and each said structure co-operates vwith ,the iront guide pulley 8. The back bloclr structure l1 is provided at each dumping span and each said structure co-operates with the back guide block 9 and is disposed under and at the ends and back and `front of the spans. The storage yard is bounded by the front block structure 10, and the powerhouse space is bounded by a railway line and by boundaries o and o, which with the line and d, include the angles c, which deiine and limit the area over which the scraper 7 may work to handle material beneath the dumping span. The operation of the drag' scraper equipment may be described as follows:
The material, generally indicated at l2 and dumped from a car 13, may be distributed over each storage area, and this is done by appropriately shifting the cables which operate the drag scraper 7 in respect to the front and back blocks which, as shown, comprise a series of blocks but which may consist ofblocks that are moved. ln the drawingsthe full and dotted lines indicato arrangements of the cables for causing the scraper to work over certain parts of the storage area and in each case the frontV and back guide pulleys are employed as shown. The angle c between the full and dotted lines at the left in the drawings shows that the space over which the drag scraper may work is bounded by a wide or obtuse angle. Y
It will be obvious to those skilled in the art to which the invention relates that 1noditieations may be made in details of construction and arrangement and in matters of mere torni without departing from the spirit of the invention which is not limited as to sueh matters or otherwise than as the prior art and the appended claim may require.
