METHOD OF PRODUCING DESIGNS IN PILE FABRICS.
Application filed August 30, 1924. Serial No. 735,195.-
To all whom it may concern:
Be it knownthat I, SAMUEL E.-CREAsnY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented Methods of Producing Designs in Pile Fabrics, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to the particular method of dyeing yarn, the weaving of said yarn into fabrics, the chemical treatment of said fabric, and finally the color ornamentation of the said fabric.
Among the principal objects which the present invention has in view are: to produce a textile fabric which gives the appearance of a woven pattern by yarn prepara tion and treatment followed by chemical treatment andcolor printing after the fabric is Woven; to produce a textile fabric with softer tones than heretofore achieved; and to produce such a. fabric at a considerable-saving in time and cost.
The nature and objects of my invention will appear clear by noting the accompanymg description and drawings illustrating a preferred form of my invention, wherein like reference characters indicate corresponding parts:
Figure 1 is a small piece of fabric showing certain of the weft threads as originally woven, the dark lines a, a, represent with permanent dye of one color and dischargeable dye of another color, the one color being fast or permanent, and the other, a color, that may be removed by chemical means. Said dischargeable color may be occluded or discharged from the threads by employing certain chemicals therefor.
The threads thus dyed may be limited to certain of the Weft threads, or certain warp threads, or both.
Figure 2 is a view fabric showing the dischargeable color removed from the weft threads in certain areas marked b, b. In this step of of the same piece of the method, the fabric is imprinted or overlaid in design arrangement with a chemical which has the ability to occlude or discharge the dischargeable or darker color from the threads a, a. The body of the cloth betweensaid threads is'undyed or of different color from the permanent dye color of the threads a, a. Therefore, when the chemical occludes or discharges the dischargeable or darker color from the threads (1, a, a toned area is produced in .he fabric, being a different tone from that of the body of the threads a, a.
Figure 3 is a sectlon of a design to be applied to the fabric. The nextstep in the improved method is to print the ornamental design either monochrome or polychrome, as desired, over such portionsas desired. The colors used in the printing are preferably transparent 'colors, to some extent the color of the fabric and of the threads thereof.
Figure 4 is a view of'the finished fabric after the dischargeable dye has been removed from the weft threads in particular areas and the design applied to the fabric.
Having described and illustrated my invention what I claim is:
1. A method of ornamenting fabrics comprising yarn dyeing certain threads of the fabric with permanent and dischargeable dyes of different colors and chemically removing the dischargeable dyes.
color and of the permanent color which show through 2. A method of ornament'ing fabrics com- SAMUEL E. CREASEY.
