Description

ANTI GLARE HEADLIGHT Filed Aug. 15, 192s INVENTOR .IITNESSE5 ATTORNEY Patented Apr. 7, 1925.
UNITEDv STATES 'PATENT OFFICE'.
FRED AMERICUS BISHOP, F PETERSBURG, VIRGINIA.
ANTIGLAM; HEADLIGHT.
Application filed huguatl, 1923. Serial No. 657,583.
To all whom it Amay conce-m: 4 Be it known that I, FRED A. BISHOP, a citizen of the United States, residing at Petersburg. ,in the county of Dinwiddie andhave invented new and in anti-glare devices for vehicle-headlights and has for an object the provision of a de.
vice whereby the rays of light will be'directed forwardly to a common point, so as to enable the driver of a vehicle to which the invention is applied to plainly see the roadway and at the same time eliminate glare.-
To this end the invention provides a uni.- tary structure which may be secured within a lamp in the path ofthe rays of light and adjusted to direct said rays forwardly in a manner to prevent them from interfering i with the vision of persons approaching from an opposite-direction.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings I Figure 1 is a front/ elevation of an automobile head lamp with the invention ap plied thereto.
Figure 2 is a vertical central sectional view of the same. 4
Referring in detail to the drawings wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the invention is shown as applied to a head lamp having a casing 10 of the drum type, a reflector 1l and a lens l2 which is shown as secured inplace by a ring 13. The electric bulb is shown at 14.
The anti-glare device which constitutes ing and is in the form of a unitary 'structure which includes a frame 15. This frame the invention is located within the lamp cas- 4is of circular formation and is threaded eX-v teriorly for adjustable engagement with .threads 16 provided upon theinside of the lamp' casing. v
Arranged concentrically within the frame 15 is a plurality of annular deflecting members 17.. These members are secured within the frame 15 by means of Strips 18 which are arranged in the form of radial partitions, las shown in Figure 1 of the drawings. The members 17 converge forwardly and outwardly and are so arranged relatively as to direct the rays of light to a common point .in advance ofthe lamp.
By threading the frame 15 within the lamp casing, the device may be adjusted relative-to the lamp v14:, in accordance with the focus ofthe latter and when properly positioned, the device may be held against accidental displacement bylm'eansvof a set screw 19.
' The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein'reserved to makesuch changes as prop' erly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
-Having described the invention what is claimed is v An anti-glare headlight of the character described, comprising an externally threaded circular frame, the casing of a lamp threadedly engaging the frame therein,'a plurality of concentrically arranged outwardly converging members arranged within the frame, said members being secured within the frame by strips arranged in ther form of radial partitions and 'focusing the members toward a common center, the central member focusing forwardly and being independent 4of the other members and forming the hub from which the strips radiate, and means `for adjustably holding the circular frame to the casing. f
