Description
April 7, 1925. I 1,532,955
H. G. SAMMONS d Aug. 18, '1924 M MM 5 g 6/5 Patented Apr. 7, 1925.
I UNITED STATES:
PATENT-OFFICE,
HARDY G. SAMMONS, OF NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA POWDER-APPLYING BRUSH.
Application filed August 18, 1924. Serial No. 732,829.
signed more particularly for the use of barbers in applying powder to the back of the neck with a view to facilitating the removal of adhering hairs after a hair cutting operation.
To the attainment of the foregoing, the invention consists in the improvement as hereinafter 'described and definitely claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification:
Figure 1 is an elevation of my novel brush.
5 Figure 2 is a cross section of the same.
Figure 3 an enlarged broken longitudinal and dianietrioal section of the brush.
Similar numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all of the views of 3:) the drawings.
Among other elements my novel brush comprises a hollow body 1 open at one end and closed at its opposite end and provided at the latter end with a handle 2. At the open end of the bodv, said body is threaded,
as designated by 3 for the detachable connectioir of a brush head 4 which is correspondingly threaded, the scheme of my invention contemplating the detachment of lo the brush head 4; from the body 1 when it is desired to fill the said body 1 with the kind of powder used for neck application.
The brush head t carries an adequate supply of bristles which are secured in the 4:, head 4; in such manner as not to interfere with the passage of powder through a large central aperture 5* in the head 4, and apertures 6 in a disk 6 fixed to the head 4 at the inner of the aperture 5*. The said apertures 6 are controlled by an apertured disk 8 with a finger piece 9, the said disk 8 being adapted to be turned to increase or diminish the freedom through which powder can pass through the said apertures 6 and 5".
The inner side of the disk 6 is arranged flush with the inner side 7 of the head 4,
Figure 3, and hence it will be manifest that the disk 8 which laps over on the said side 7 may be freely turned to position the apertures in the disk 8 with respect to the apertures in the disk 6".
In the practical use of my novel brush the body 1 while detached is filled vvith powder, and the disk 8 is adjusted as condition requires, after which the brush head 4 is connected to the body 1, whereupon the brush is ready for manipulation to apply In this powder to the back of the neck. connection it will be appreciated thatthe manipulation of the'brush with the bristles 5 applied tothe neck will contribute to the passage of powder from the body 1 through the apertures 6 and between thebristles'5 to the neck of a person.
Notwithstanding the practical advantages ascribed to my novel brush it will be manifest that the brush issimple and inexpensive 1n construction, 1s'well adapted to withstand ordinary usage, and .is calcu-. lated to add materially to the equipment of i a barber.
I have enteredinto a detailed-description understanding of the said embodiment. l V
do not desire, however, tobe understood as confining myself to the specific construction and relative arrangement of parts inasmuch as in the future practice of the invention various changes and modifications may be made such'as fall within the scope of my invention as defined in my appended claim.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters-Fab ent, is
The herein described powder applying brush comprising a hollow body open at one end and closed by a handle at its opposite end, a brush head detachably connected to and closing the open end of the body and apertured disk pivotully connected t0 the having a large-central aperture, bristles earcenter of the saidplete and overlapping and ried by the said head and disposed about resting against the inner side of the head. 10 said aperture, a foraminous plate fixed to In testimony whereof I affix my signa the head and arranged at the inner end of ture. the large. aperture in the 11G&C1 3JI1(1 flush I k p i I with the inner i'de'of the hehdfand eh HARDY G.
