TO REMINGTON ARMS COMPANY, INC.,
DELAWARE.
or NEW Yon-K, N. HY., A CORPORATION 0F HANDLE FOR PISTOLS.
To @ZZ whom t may concern-1,
Be it known that I, CRAWFORD C. Loon/ris,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Ilion, in the county otl Herkimer and State of New York, have invented certain new' to and removed from the arml but cannot become inadvertently detached.
A further vobject is to prevent rattling by providing means for holding the grip plates snugly'in place.
More speciiically it is an object to provide a flexible holding means which will hold the grip plates snugly vin placel even though the parts are not accurately dimensioned and fitted.
Vith these and incidental objects in view, the invention consists in certai n novel features of construction and combination of partswhich areyset forth in the appended claims and a preferred JformV of embodi-l nient whereof is hereinafter described withreference to the drawings which-accom- -pany and form partof the specification,
wherein:
Fig. 1 is a partial side elevation of a' pistol provided with myvimproved handle.
Fig. 2 is a view similar'to Fig. 1 showing the grip plates removed.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of luy/improved grip plate and its attaching plate.v
Fig. 4. is a sectional view on vthe line 4 4 ot' Fig. 3 looking in thedirection of the arrows.
Fig. 5 is a vertical sectional view of the pistol showing a grip plate partly applied thereto.
Fig. 6 is a view similar to Fig. 5 showing the grip plate fully applied.
Fig. 7 is vay sectional view on the line .7-7 of Fig. 6 looking in the direction of the arrows. y
CJI
In said drawings the numeral 10 indicates is a Iiexible plate 12 preferably rather thin and formed of steel or other flexible material. Thisplateis attached to thegri'p plate by means of rtwo or more attaching studs 13 preferably formed with a countersunk head and with a reduced neck portion 14. 'The plate 12 is formed with key-hole slots 15 havingv an enlarged portion dimensioned'to'receive the stud and having a reduced portion dimensioned to receive the neck portionotl the studs asis clearly shown in the drawings. Thev grip plate also'preferably carries aV dowell 16 receivable-,in an opening 17 in the flexible plate.. In order to assemble these parts thefstuds 13 and dowell16 are insertednin the" grip 'plate and the plate `12 vapplied to the studs and then vthis plate is slid downwardly-until the dowell penetrates `the opening-17, The
reduced portions of the key hole `slots have now entered the neck portion'ofthe studs and the plate 12 is thereby -held in :position. The do'wel 16 prevents the plate 12 from sliding upwardly' andthe'reby becoming detached: Inorder to detach the plate 12 a knife blade'or other similar instrument is passed betweenlthegrip plate and the plate 12 until, the latter is flexed' outwardly suiciently fai' to clear fthedowell 16. The plate 12 may then be slidup wardly until the studs register .with the. enlarged portion of the key holeslots and then removed. v1While this manner of attaching the plate 12 to the grip plate is a very desirable one it is to vbe understood that any other suitable means ,may be'used. il desired. I
The frame 10. ot the pistol is preferably formed with an opening 21 otsubstantially the form shown. One edge of this opening is undercut to form the shoulderl 22. The other edge is provided with undercut lugs 23 and 24 provided preferably with inclined end portions 25 and 26. The grip fpl'ates are preferably formed` with a raised` portion 18 of somewhat the general form shown in the drawings which serves to space the plate 18 sufficiently far Within the frame 'ot the pistol to locate the plate 12 behind the shoulder 22 and the lugs 23 and 24. I
In assembling the grip plate ywith the pistol it is applied to the frame in a somewhat inclined position in substantiallythe location shown in Fig. 5 with an edge of i igrips. i.'
