(UNITED STATES 1,531,333 PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY DUFFY, OF WENATCH EE', WASHINGTON.
vacuum: snanme nnv'rcr.
Application filed November 22, 1922. Serial No. 602,596.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY Dfirrr, of Wenatchee, in the county of Chelan and State of Washington, have invented certam'new and useful Improvements in Vacuum Sealin Devices; and I do hereby declare the 0 owing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will en able others skilled in the art to which it ap pertains to make and use the same.
In Letters Patent No. 1,336,211 issuedto me April 6, 1920, I have shown a vacuum sealing device b means of which a vacuum pump may be p aced in communication with having recesses or notches 7 in its a space in which the air pressure is to be reduced,-such as that existing in window sashes having two spaced apart panes.
My present invention is of the same general nature but it eliminates the valve seated in the lateral passe of the plug. 7
Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view. Figures 2, 3, 4 and 5 are details.
The plug 1 is a hollow body threaded exteriorlyas at 2 and adapted to be received by a double pane window sash or by a pipe having an inner pipe and an intermediate s ace from which the air is to be exhausted.
1s plug is intended to be inserted fully in an orifice in the sash, for instance, and to remain there without interfering with the movement of the sash as it does not project from the orifice.
In its .bottom or inner end the plug is shown closed by a wall formed with a pair of holes 3 and a pair of upright pins 4 proecting from near its periphery. Above or nside of this wall is a disk valve 5 comprismg a disk proper formed with holes 6 and riphery.
At its central portion the disk v ve is provided with an up-standing blade 8. A screw 8 1s tapped in the bottom of the plug and extends into disk 5, preferably within the thickness of blade 8, to keep the disk inplace. By the construction thus far described the disk valve rests upon or'in contact with the inner wall of the ln By turning the blade 8 the holes 6 o t e disk valve may be brought into register with holes 3 of the end wall of the plug. This turning of the. disk valve is limited by its recesses 7 enga pins 4 of the end wall. The construc ti dfi ma be so arranged that this e ent wil occur when the holes 6 and 3 are in full register or completely out of alinement.
As appropriate means for turning thedisk valve I have shown a ump cylinder 9 to be of the disk valve into register with those of the inner wall of'the plug. 7 The pump may then be operated to exhaust the air from the space, after which a reverse turn will close the disk valve, and the pump may be withdrawn.
If it is desired to withdraw more air from the space between the window ane and the amount the pump cylinder Wlll hold, the valve is closed by turning the pump cylinder, and the pump cylinder removed and the pump piston forced inwardly and the operation herebefore described repeated.
I claim as my invention:
1. The herein described sealing device comprising a hollow plug havin an inner wall formed with holes, a disk va ve in contact with the inner face of said wall and formed with holes, a pump to be inserted in said plug having a piston and cylinder ada ted to interlock with said valve to move sai holes into or out of register whereby the valve can be closed after the iston has withdrawn a certain amount of an through the valve.
2. The herein described vacuum .sealing device com risin a hollow plug having an inner wall orme with holes, a disk valve in contact with the inner face of said wall and 3. The herein described -Qvacuum sealing A device comprising a hollow plug and an mner wall formed with holes, a disk valve in contact with the inner face of said wall and formed with holes, a pump cylinder adapted to closely fit the inner wall of the hollow plug and having means interlocking with. the valve to move said holes into or out or register, and means for limiting the-,turmng movement of said valve.
4. The herein described vacuum device comprising a. hollow plug having an inner wall formed with holes, a disk valve in contact with the inner face of said wall and 5 formed with holes and with an up-st'anding blade, a pump to be inserted in said plug having a cylinder formed with slots to receive said blade, means for turning said cylspecification.
HENRY DUFFY.
