Application fledMay 25,
Be it known that I, CARL OQ WILLIAMS, a citizen ofthe United' States, residing 'at Akron, in .the county of Summit and State of Ohio, have invented newand useful Improvements f in Filing' Cabinets (Case B), f
ofindividual compartments 14 which are of which' the following vis a. specification.
rFhis invention relates to' improvements in filing cabinets especially adapted for use in'y connection with keeping record of stock,
an object beingto provide a cabinet where Y f iii record orslike cardsmay be arrangedffor convenient reference.
Another object yof the invention is the provision of a `cabinet of this.y character which may be dividedinto separate sections, each of which may contain any desired number of compartments for individual records,
novel means being provided for separating the cabinet into these sections, whereby the number of compartments maybe increased or reduced at will `and for indicating the general andY particular character of the sections and compartments. [Another object isfthe provision of a di vision member adapted to display legends to advantage and valso kadapted to be fitted in file compartments of various Widths and this without materially detracting from the capacity of a compartment member, and the portions ofthe said end Wall being adapted to'bear legends. i l
With the above and other objects in view, the invention further -includes the following novelfeatures and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims. In the drawings e. Figure 1 is a front elevation of a cabinet constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is an enlarged elevation of a portion of the cabinet showing in detail the arrangement of ythe compartments and the manner of dividing the cabinet'into sections. Figure 3 'isa sectional `iu'evv on the line 3--3 of Figure 2. Figure 4 is a plan view of a blank from which one of the division membersy is formed. i e f Figure is a' perspective view of one of the division members ready for use.
Referring in detail to the drawings Wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the cabinet lwhich is indi- 1923i* serial no. 641,427.
cated generally at 10 may be of any suitable 1?ALTENSTf'OFFICE?w i character and ymay be supported upon a table f 11.l If desired,=this table may contain a caselswithin which isarranged suitable record cards 13 for use' within the cabinet'.
The lcab-inet 10 is formed with a number arranged in tiers and are sepa-rated by means of .horizont-ally arranged partitions 15 so as to provide a plurality of pigeon holes.
The invention resides in the meanswhereby the cabinet maybe divided into a number of separate sections, each of which will contain agroup yof compartments '14, the number of which may vary as desired.y For this` purpose thereis provided adivision member 16 which is formedl of asingle sheet of material shown in Figure 4. The sheet .is bent or folded along the dotted lines 16 so as to provide spaced substantially parallel side Walls 17 which are connected at one end byl a substantially V-shaped end wall 18. 'A substantially U-shaped divisio-n member 16 is thus provided which is of a width tol be received within any of the compartments 14 and toffrictionally engage the side walls of the said compartments with the` V-shaped end Wall preferably extending beyond the walls of the compartments 14.
As an example of the use of the invention, particularly reference may be hadto Fig ure 2 of the drawings wherein the division members 16 are shown as dividing a portion of the cabinet 10 into separate sections. One of these sections is illustrated as used for keeping a record of apples, another section for beans, another for soap and a fourth for tea. The general character of each section is shown by indicia upon the V-shaped end Walls 18, the sectionA being devoted to apples, the section B to beans while the sections C and D are devoted respectively tosoap and tea. As previously stated, these sections may contain any number of individual compartments .14, depending upon the purpose forkivhich the section is utilized and each individual compartment may be providedy with indicia indicating the particular characterof the compartment. For example, the apple section A has its sepa` rate compartments labeled with the names of different kinds of apples While the individual compartments of the section B contain indicia 'indicating various kinds of beans. The sections A and B each contain four compartments, but this number may be increased orl decreased by movingor rearranging the division numbers in different compartments, it being noted that the section C contains six compartments for various kinds of soap.
It Will be thus apparent that the invention provides an exceedingly simple and efiicient means whereby a cabinet of this character may be divided into separate sections containing any number of individual compartments and it may thus be adapted not` only for the purpose described, but may be utilized for various other purposes.
As clearly shown in Figure 3, the space bet-Ween the side Walls 17 of the division member 16 may be utilized to receive files, cards or the like.
The projecting` V-shaped portion of each division member 1G also permits of the divisio-n member beingreadily Withdrawn; and it will be also noted that each of thel division members may be increased or diminished in Width as the occasion demands.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herem reserved to make such changes as prop- -erly fall Within the scope of the appended claims. t
Having described the invention what is claimed is 1. As a new article of manufact-ure, a division member for use in a compartment of a case comprising` a plurality of compartments the said Vdivision member havingspaced side Walls and a V-shaped end Wall joining the side Walls atone end of the member7 and the portions of the said end wall being adapted to bear legends. t
2. The combination With a case comprising a plurality of compartments of division members disposed in certain of the compartments and spaced apart, each of the said division members having spaced sidewalls and also having' a V-shaped end wall joining the outer ends of the side Wall and projecting beyond the aceof the case, the portions ot' the said end Wall being adapted to bear legends. i
ln testimony whereof I ai'lix my sigi'iature.
