The present iinvention proposes to-provide a "combined letting-in tool and control head applicable to present 'forms of packers. The weight `of the packer, which is free to .slide up and d'own with respect to the valve member, normally tends tokeep the. parts in, the position shown in Fig. 1. By' reason of the large port area ofthe attachment, the packer and attachment,
'when lowered as a unit into a welLfwith the `valve open, offers a minilnuln'resistance to the upward flow of fluid in' the well. This highly important in the packing off of high pressure wells where considerable diiii 'cultyy has heretofore been encountered in lowering a packer 'against the upwardly flowing Huid'. It alsoprovidesa simple control forl the, escape of gas after the packer is set, and is very useful where gaseous wells are being" pumped, as it enables" the desired pressure to be maintained in the wellfor the bestaction of the pump valves.
Fronrtheforegoing, it will be readily -understood. that. theinvention may be applied to standard packers without modification of their construction. Various changes and modifications may be' made in the con-v .limiting the upward sliding 'the valve.
6. A gas control 'attachment for packers comprising a head 'membeiihaving a'central struction and arrangement of parts in the present invention within the contemplation of my invention and under the scope of the appended claims.
The present construction is designed to be used for the same purpose as the construction shown in my copending application. filed July 18, 1924, Serial No. 689,307,
' I claim as my invention:
-1. The combination with a hollow well packer, of a head having a gas escape port therein, a valve member carried by the head and movable relatively thereto for opening and closing said port, and tubing extending through the packer and connected withthe valve member.
2. The combination with af'hollow well packer', of a head thereon having a gas escape port therein and having a valve seat,
a valve member4 telescopingly fitted over a part of the head and having a valve portion for cooperation with the seat, and means for slidably and non-rotatably connecting the valve member and head.
3. The combination with a hollow welll -packer having a packing element thereon, of
a head screwed onto the packer and arranged to compress the packer when being turned in one' direction, said head having a. restricted neck-portion andv a valve seatand a gas outlet port, a valve member. slidablc .over they neck havingl a valve -portion adapted to cover saidport and engage against saidseat, and means for slidably' and non-rotatably 'connecting the valve and head. y
