GUIDE FOR TYIEWR-ITTEN SHEETS.

To all whom it may concern: I

Be it known that we, JUSTIN K. ANDER- SON and GEORGE E. TAYLOR, citizens of the United States, residing at Charleston, in the county of Kanawha and State of West Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Guides for Typewritten Sheets, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to the preparation of printed and typewritten sheets, such as letters and ,reports and in general provides novel guide means whereby the printed or typewritten matter can be readily and conven ently located upon the sheet within desirable limits.

- It is the further object of this invention to provide guide means of particular advantage in preparing lengthy reports to be' typed with as many extra copies as possible and wherein it is desired that all the pages or copies, when typed, shall present a suitable margin-on the left side fonbinding, and on the top, bottom and right side to present a uniform and pleasing appearance.

In addition to being susceptible of the uses and advantages above set forth, this invention is also adapted for use with all kinds .of typewritten letterspreports; tabulations oftfigures; ruling of columns and. spacings, and likewise with any form of typewriting or similar methods of writing" or printing. v

With the foregoing in view, this invention consists in the provision of guides adapted to be associated with the sheet to be typed as "to visibly define the limits of the space within which it is desired to confine the'typed matter, and which thus acts as a guide to the typist so that the typewriting machine may be operated accord'ngly.

pable of a Wide and varied range of application it shall for the present purpose be described only with reference to its particular use as a guide to a typist in typing multiple copies, for which purpose it is desirable that the guiding means be of such a nature as'to readily catch the eye of the typist when the limit of the typng space is approached although presenting no distraction to the typist otherwise. This is accomplished in the first instance as shown in Fig.1, by ruling borderlines 10 on a sheet 11- of thin' paper. which is adapted to be placed beneath the first of the multiple sheets or copies to be typed,vand on top of the first sheet of carbon paper,in which position of the papers the border lines 10 will be visible through the first sheet to act as a guide to the typist.

As illustrated in Fig. 2 border lines 12 may be marked on the back of a sheet of carbon paper 13 the lines 12preferably being of red or other contrasting color toadd to the visibility of the same through the first or top sheet of paper. 7

In Fig. 3 there is shown a guide means,

preferably a sheet of carbonpaper 15 having a plurality of horizontal rulings 16 and vertical rulings 17 on the reverse side thereof; These rulings 16 and 17 are of contrasting color to add to thevisibility thereof through the first sheet when the carbon paper isin use. This type of guide means. is adapted for all kinds of tabulations andstatements. 1

Having thus described the invention what is claimed is I *1. A guide for locating typing or printing on a sheet so as to leave suitable mar;
