Our invention relates to improvements in ticket punches and has for its object to provide a punch capable of consecutively numbering the tickets punched, perfor-ating said tickets with a conductors personal identification mark, permitting said conductors personal identification die to be used independently of the number-punching mechanism, and having an additional cutout punch (for cuttingout numbered squares from commutation tickets) with means for collecting the cut-out sections in a locked compartment, for auditing purposes.

The tool of our invention is in aid of the checking and auditing departments of the carrier in whose service said tool is ei.- ployed, and is primarily intended to consecutively number the tickets collected on each run, and from run to run, while leaving the conductors individual punch-mark capable of being operated independentlyv of such numbering mechanism, to the end that it may be used in marking hat-checks and the like. The cut-out mechanism is devised and intended for commutation tickets only, the auditors check being effected from the cut out ticket-sections, collected in a locked compartment for that purpose; such commutation tickets being checked by means of the ticket fragments collected in such conipartment, the key to which is held by a person other than the conductor.

As illustrated, the punch of our invention comprises the opposed upper box-jaw 10 and lower box-jaw 11, actuated by the handle- members 12 and 13. Near thelo-utei extremities of said jaws are the male inember 14 and female member 15 of the conductors individual punch.

The numbering apparatus A consists of an upper and male series of numbering` disks 16, mounted in the upper jawA 10, and an opposed female series of disks 17 cooperating with said disks 16 and seated in the lower jaw 11.

To enable the conductors individual. punch (members 14. and to be used otherwise than in conjunction with the numbering apparatus A we vhave provided a transverse control-rod 18 having the push buttons 19 and 20 upon its opposite eX- tremities, as shown in Figs. 7 and 8, the

function of which rod is to disconnect the numbering apparatus A so that it will be inoperative when the handles 12 and 13 are manipulated for purposes not requiring the use of such numbering apparatus.

As shown in Fig. 6 the series of male numbering'disks 16 is mounted on the shaft 21, female series 17 being mounted on the shaft 22. The series 16 terminates in a ratchet wheel 23 which is driven from the shaft 22 b-y means of the pawl 24. Similarly, the disk series 17 is provided with the ratchet wheel 25 driven from the shaft 21 by the pawl 26. To render the ratchet wheels 23 and 25 inoperative, we provide a pin 27 carried by a standard 28, which standard 28 is iiXed upon the rod 18; the pin 27 when thrust toward vthe left as shown in Fig. 8, by a pressure upon the push-button 20, will throw both of pawls 24 and 26 out of engagement with their respective ratchet wheels, thus rendering the numbering apparatus A idle.

Our punch also has the cut-out or blockout die 29 mounted as shown, to punch out L. un

the numbered squares commonly used upon the margins of commutation tickets; the numbered fragments as they are cut by the die 29 are forced through the .mouth 30 into' Mode of operation.

InY the use of our ticket punch the' conductor treats the tickets collected in the manner now common, punching out numbered squares from commutation tickets, and perforatingall other tickets with his individual punch. But in using our punch' he also,` when applying his individual punch-mark; simultaneously perforates the tickets with a serial number. The purpose of that serial number is to enable an inspector or auditor to check up the result of the conductors run, requiring the production of the tickets in their proper numerical sequence, thus safeguarding against tickets being held over by the conductor from one run, and turned in as against a. later run.

The conductor also uses the individual punch for hat-checking and otherpurposes, land accordingly we provide means for dis connecting the numbering apparatus A as above described.

We claiml. In a ticket punch in combination a consecutive-numbering apparatus and an identification punch; a hand-actuated means for simultaneously actuating said numbering apparatus and identification punch; and means lfor disengaging said numbering apparatus simultaneously actuating said numbering apparatus and identification punch; and means for disengaging said numbering apparatus to permit the independent operation of said identification punch; together with a cutout punch, and a receptacle for the cuttings formed by said cut-out punch.

A ticket punch comprising two handleVer-acuated jaws; a series of numbering disks and an identifying die mounted in one of said jaws; a corresponding series of coopera-ting disks and a female member for said identifying die mounted in the opposing jaw; and means for disengaging said disks from actuation` by said hand-lever; Vtogether with a cut-out punch, and a receptacle for the cuttings formed by said cut-out punch.
