UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MAHAULT DE PENHOEL, OF FORT SNELLING, MINNESOTA.
IMPROVEMENT IN FASTENERS FOR SHADE-ROLLER CORDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 152,977, dated July 14,1874; application filed May 29, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, 1\/IAHAULT DE PENHOEL, of Fort Smelling, Hennepin county, Minnesota, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Fastener for Shade-Roller Cords, &c., of which the following is a specification:
Figure l is a side View of my improved fastener shown as applied to a shade-roller cord; and Fig. 2 is a detail section of the same, taken through the line .40 00, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts.
My invention has for its object to furnish an improved fastener for shade-roller cords and other cords and ropes, which shall be simple in construction, inexpensive in manufacture, and convenient and reliable in use, being easily adjusted, and holding the cord or rope securely.
The invention consists in the combination, with each other, of the brackets, the rod, the drum or cylinder, the thumb-screw, and the pulley, to adapt the device to hold a cord or rope, as hereinafter described.
A represents a shaderoller, and B its cord, about the construction of which parts there is nothing new. 0 are two brackets to be attached to a window-casing or other support to hold a rod, D, which should be firmly secured to one of said brackets C-preferabl y the upper one-and should pass loosely through the other bracket. Upon the rod D is placed a short cylinder or drum, E, which is secured in place by a set-screw, F, which also passes through and serves as a pivot for pulley G, around which the cord B passes.
By this construction, by slightly loosenin the thumb-screw F the drum E may be moved down upon the rod D to tighten the cord, may be moved up to loosen it, or may be turned upon said rod to adjust the pulley to the direction in which the cord is required to work.
For sh ade-roller cords the head of the thumbscrew F should be made thin to prevent itfrom being turned by children playing with it.
For other uses it may be made thicker and rounded or milled, to enable it to be more readily operated.
Having thus described in y invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of the brackets 0, rod D, drum or cylinder E, thumb-screw F, and pulley G, substantially as herein shown and described, to adapt the device to hold a cord or rope, as set forth.
