JAMES N. HENRY, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
CURTAIN B01D AND' BRACKET.
Application filed August 30, 1924.
To all 107mm t may concern.'
Be it known that I, Innes N. HENRY, a citizen of the Ilnited States, residing at Provident e, in the county ot' Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented ccrtain new and useful Improvements in Curtain Rods and Brackets. of which the iollowing is a specification.
My invention relates to that type or' curtain supports wherein the ends ot the rod er rods are slidabljY detachable from the brackets.
The essential objects or my invention are to insure such a complete engagement of the bracket and rod as to prevent accidental disengagement; to afford facility of removal or" the rod from the bracket; to prevent rattling orc the parts; to enable the brackets to be each struck and bent up from a single blank; and to attain these ends in an ineX- pensive structure possessing a maximum of strength, and adapted for use in a variety of locations.
To the above enumerated ends primarily my invention consists in such parts and in such combinations of parts as fall within the scope ot the appended claim.
In the accompanying' drawings which form a part of this specification- Figure 1 is a fragmentary front elevation of a curtain rod mounted in a pair ot brackets embodying my invention.l
Figure 2, a section taken on line 2 2 of Figure 1,
Figure 3. a fragmentary plan view of a bracket and rod,
Figure 4, a front elevation of a bracket, and
Figure 5, a detail view of one end ot the rod.
Like reference characters indicate ylike parts throughout the views.
In the form of my invention herein illustratcd the rod comprises two telescoping sections 7 with curved end portions, but the rod may be nonsectional or straight ir desired. Each rod end is preferably enlarged, as at 8, and is provided near its extremity with an annular groove 9 producing a shoulder 10, a neck 11 and a head 12. Centrally of the disk is a rounded projection 13.
The rod is engageable at its end with brackets. Each bracket 15 is out and bent Serial No. 735,213.
by suitable tools from thin resilient sheet metal blanks. Itis preferably oblong having end attaching portions 17 provided with central periorations 18 to receive attaching screws 19. The body portion of the bracket, with which the lugs 17 are integral, extends forwardly oic the latter and comprises upper and lower shoulders 22 and 23 supporting an integral face plate 24. This plate has an upright U shaped opening 25 extending to an oblong slot 26 in the shoulder 22 of somewhat greater length than the width of the opening'. Flat resilient oppositely disposed fingers 28 in the rear of and parallel with the plate 24 are connected with the plate by rearwardly extending open loop portions 29 integral with the opposite sides of the plate intermediate its ends. The iingers are therefore spaced from the plate 24. Their adjacent free end edges are provided with semicircular notches 30. 1
The slot 26 receives the head 12 of the rod whose neck 11 is moved down to the bottom oi the opening 25 and the head 12 and shoulder 9 embrace the adjacent portions of the plate 24. In its descent the knob or projection 13 is intercepted by the ends of the ifingers 28 which are` rearwardly distended thereby until the notches 30 are reached, whereupon the knob snaps into the notches and is embraced therein, so that the rod is insured against accidental escape from the bracket.
I claim In a device of the character described, 'a curtain rod provided. with an annular lateral recess forming a neck and a terminal head, a knob on the end of the rod, a bracket comprising attaching lugs, forwardly projecting walls upon the lugs, one oi said walls being provided with a slot, a face plate joining the walls provided with an opening extending to the slot and adapted to receive the neck oit the rod, and horizontally disposed inwardly directed lateral resilient lingers spa-ced from the platein the rear of the plate comprising open loop portions and provided in their adjacent edges with registering cavities adapted to yieldingly embrace the knob upon the end of the rod. l
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature.
JAMES N. HENRY.
