l E. M. DowDELL AMUSEMENT DEVICE Filed June 19, 1923 Patented Mar. 10, 1925.
UNITED STATES PATENT GFFICE.
AM'USEMENT DEVICE.
Application filed June 19, 1923.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, EUGNiE M. DowDELL, a citizen ot the United States, and resident of the city and county of San Francisco and State ot California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Amusement Devices, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to amusement devices, and has for its principal object the provision of a means, adapted to be secured to the toot, whereby the healthful and pleasurable activities of children may be encouraged and promoted. The device comprises a foot-supporting element fitted at its one extremity to receive the foot and bearing means for securing, or attaching, it thereto, and bearing at its other extremity a tread element adapted to permit a bouncing action. Figure l is perspective view, showing the device in place.
Figure 2 is an elevation, partly in section, showing the foot-arch rest, the elastic-cush ion tread, and a means for retaining the device in place.
Figure 3 is a plan view of Figure 2. Figure et is a modification, showing a spherical tread, together with a flexible buckle-bearing member for securing it in place.
ln the preferred form of my invention, the spherical tread is comprised of a hollow pneumatic element, but it is obvious that it might be a solid elastic element and still provide a useful device.
Serial No. 646,537.
Referring' more particularly to the drawings, l represents the foot-supporting ele-- ment, 2 the foot-rest extremity, 3 the heelcheck, 4 the vertically arranged cord chan- 4U nels, 4 the cords, 5 the rubber, or elastic, tread, 6 transverse aperture, 7 the flexible buckle-bearing member carried by the aperture 6, S the ball-tread, 9 the concavity in which rests the ball-tread 8, l() the apertured plate tor retaining the ball-tread 8 in place, and ll. the means for securing pla-te 10 to the base-extremity of element l.
The preferred torni of my invention, as shown in Fig. 4, comprises an elastic or gas iilled cushion element 8.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters -Patent is:
l. A device of the class described, com 55 prisinga foot support having a cut out portion at one extremity constituting a heel rest and a cut out portion at the opposite extremity, and a pneumatic tread in the last named cut out portion.
2. A device of the class described, comprisingy a vertically elongated foot support, said support having means orn'iing a. rest for the sole of the shoe and a cut out poi tion forming a rest for the heel at one extremitv thereof, said support having a rounded cavity at its opposite extren'iity, and a gas filled ball member seated in said rounded cavity.
