To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, HUGO C. RAssMANN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Beaver Dam, in the county of Dodge and State of lNisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stall Constructions; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in stall constructions and more particularly to stanchions and means for operating the sama-one object being to provide simple and substantial means assoc'iated with a plurality of stanchions for easily and effectually opening or closing and locking all of the stanchions simultaneously or which may be manipulated to open any one or more of a series of stanchions and leave the others closed and locked.
I/Vith this and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts as hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings; Figure 1 is a plan view showing an embodiment of my invention; Figure 2 is a side elevation of the same; Figures 3 and 4 are detail views and Figure 5 is a, view showing a modification.
In the drawing, I have shown three stall posts 1, 1, 1, representing two stalls 2, 2, and it will of course be understood that any desired number of stalls may be employed, and for each stall, a stanchion 3 is provided.
A horzontal bar 4 which may be said to constitute the back-line of the stall structure, is rigidly secured to the upper ends of the several stall posts 1 by means of clamps 5,-one member of each of which is provided with a. pair of arms 6, 6 which project laterally from respective sides of said clamp member and each pair of arms 6, 6 constitute, in effect, a cross head rigid wth the upper end of one ofthe stall posts. The arms forming said cross-heads are provided at their free ends with suitable openings for the accommodation of bars 7, 8 which are movably supported by said arms or cross heads and disposed parallel with each other and with the central fixed bar 4 at respective sides of and spaced from the latter.

The bracket 10A `of each pair of brackets is also provided with a depending arm 16 which terminates atits lower end in a horizontal flange 17, said flange having a plurality of holes 18 topermit a horizontal plate 19 to be adjustably secured to saidv iange. The plate 19 is disposed above the horizontal plane of the iange 14l of the bracket arm 13 and its free edge is` curved as at 20. The plate 19 is provided with a curved slot 21 which marks approximately a semi-circle. Each stanchion 3 comprises an approximately U-shaped frame or member 22 having horzontal arms 23, 24 at its upper and lower ends respectively, and a straight member 25 pivoted at its lower end to a sleeve 26 rigidly secured'to the lower arm 24 of the U-shaped member 22 of the stanchion. The lower end of the stanchion Vmay be loosely and adjustably connected by a chain 27 with a suitable anchor 28 at the bottom of the stall. Y i
The straight member 25 of the stanchion is provided with an upwardly and laterally projecting arm 29 having an opening 30 near its base through which the upper hori- Zontal arm 23 of the stanchion member 22 passes freely. VThe free end portion of the arm 29 is vertically disposedV and enters the curved slot 21 in the plate 19 carried by the bracket 10. The upper arm 23 of the stan. chion member 22 has a collar 3l secured thereto and this collar is pivotally connected, through the medium of a headed pin 32 with the flange or plate 14 of the bracket .9 at any one of the holes 15 insaid plate. In` this manner, the weight of the stanchion is sustained by the bracket 9.

2. The combination with a stall frame forming a plurality of stalls and including a fixed top bar and a slidable top bar parallel with the fixed bar, and a stanchion in each stall comprising pivoted members, of pairs of brackets slidably engaged with the slidable bar, the brackets of each pair being connected respectively with respective members of a stanchion, means for imparting endwise movement to the slidable bar, and links each pivoted at one end to a bracket and having its opposite end engageable with the slidable bar or with the fixed bar whereby the bracket may be caused to move with the bar or the bar may slide through the bracket.
3. The combination with stall posts and a rigid bar connecting their upper end portions, and a stanchio-n between the stall posts and comprising pivoted members, of cross heads secured to said posts, longitudinally movable bars carried by said cross heads at respective sides of said [iXed bar, a pair of brackets mounted on said movable bars and connected respectively with respective members ot the stanchion, a cross head pivoted between its ends to the central fixed bar and having movable connections with respective movable bars, a hand lever, means connecting said hand lever with one of the movable bars, and means whereby the brackets may be connected either with the movable bars or with the iixed bar.
4. The combination with a stall frame, and a stanchion comprising pivoted members, of brackets supported by said frame, a stanchion having one of its members pivotally connected with and supported by one of said brackets, a plate secured to the other bracket and having a segmental slot receiving a part on the other member of the stanchion, the pivotal connections between the respective stanchion members and the respective brackets being out of vertical alinement, and manually operable means for moving one of said brackets relatively to the other to open or close the stanchion.
5. The combination with a stall frame,
and a stanchion comprising an approximately U-shaped member and a straight member pivoted'thereto, said straight member having a hole through which the upper arm of the U-shaped member passes freely, and said straight member provided with van upwardly and inwardly projecting arm, of two slide brackets supported by the frame, manually operable means for moving said slide brackets simultaneously in reverse directions respectively,- one of said slide brackets having a depending portion pivotally connected with the U-shaped member of the stanchion and supporting the weight of the latter, and the other slide bracket having a part loosely receiving the upper portion of the upwardly and inwardly projecting arm of the straight member of the stanchion.
