M.VOGELSANG HIGH TENSION OVERFLOW CURRENT SWITCH FOR SMALL INTENSITIES OF CURRENT Filed Aug. 24, 1921 Patented Mar. 10, 1925.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
I MAX VOGELSANG, OF FRANKFORT-ON-THE-MAIN, GERMANY, ASSIGNOR TO THE FIRM VOIGT & HAEFFNER, AKTIENGESELLSCHAFT, OF FRANKFORT-ON-THE-MAIN, GER- MANY.
HIGH-TENSION OVERFLOW-CURRENT SWITCH FOR SMALL INTENSITIES OF CURRENT.
Application filed August 24, 1921.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Max VoonLsANs, a citizen of the Republic of Germany, residing at Frankfort-on-the-Main, Ha-nauerla-ndstrasse, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in High-Tension ()verflowlurrent Switches for Small Intensities of Current, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to high tension switches, specially of the horn-switch type, in which an overload trip coil is used for cutting out the high-tension current if only smaller intensity of current is required.
If in switches of this type an electric arc is produced between the two horns at the switching off this electric arc has the tendency to ascend along the horns owing to the electro-dynamic action which occurs. This tendency of the electric arc is however impaired by the fact that, the overload trip coil of a magnet being not short-circuited the electric arc is drawn over to the magnet by the magnetic flux so that the sparks produced jump over to the magnet whereby the ascending force of the electric arc is considerably reduced. In order to avoid this detect the magnetcoil is short-circuited at the switching off so that the disturbing magnetic action is eliminated.
A form of execution of the invention is shown by way of example on the accompanying drawing, wherein:
An arrangement of this type, designed for horn type switches, is shown by way of Serial No. 495,116.
example on the accompanying drawing wherein I Fig. 1 shows the improved switch in the switch-on position.
Fig. 2- shows the same in the switchingoff position.
Between the horns a, 7) the contact knife 0 is arranged which, with the aid of a movable cable (Z closes the circuit at the switching on. c is the releasing overload trip and coil which is short-circuited at the switching-off as shown on Fig. 2. The contact. arm 0 is brought by hand from the position Fig. 1 to the position Fig. 2 and it is secured in the position Fig. 2 by a conveniently arranged pawl, not shown on the drawing. which is released by the action of the over load trip coil 6.
An improved high-tension overflow current switch for smaller intensities oi current comprising in combination with the horns, a pivotable Contact knife, an elastic cable connected with said switch knife and an overload trip and releasing coil which is short-circuited by the movement of the contact knife when the same moves into the switching-0H position.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MAX VOGELSANG. Witnesses EMINN DIPPEL, ALBERT PHILIPP ZENDER.
