' i To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Mnncmon ZwIoKY, a c1t1zen' of-the United States, residing at SpringTownship, in the county of Berks.
.5 and Statef of l ennsylv'air'i'ia, have -invented certain new and useful Improvements in Center Stop Mechanism for Full-Fashioned Knitting Machines, of which the'following is a specification.-
My invention relatesqto yarn feed 'mechanism for full-fashioned knittin machines, and particularly to stop mechanism for limiting the travel of the reciprocatively operated yarn-carrier-rods commonly employed in such-machines.
These yarn-carrier rods are commonly reciprocated through afriction-box mechanism' and controlled by screw-actuated stop devices arranged" to contact, with the ends of the rods -or it may be with stop lugs secured to the latter; such known, mechanism being indicated in J anssen-Zwicky Patent No. 1,079,915 of Nov- 1913, in connection with-twhich my present invention may be -35 employed, and the latter oonsistin'gmerely in an improved supplemental stop mechanism intermedi ately operativeupon the yarn carrierrods .to ermit of most conveniently efiecting desired limitation of the movement of any one ormore of them, as fully set forth in connection with the accom anying 7 drawing and clearly defined in the aims.
Fig. 1 is a fragmentary cross-sectional viewof'a full-fashioned knitting machine showing. my improved su plemental stop;
mechamsm ap ied tothe ame thereof in a cooperative re ation to .the intermedlat ely supported yarn-carrier rode; the controllln screw and end stop mechanisms for, re s as commonly employed and l indicated in l Patent No. 1,079,915referred to, ted as unnecessary toa 'full 'unde of thepresent improvement. 1
Fig. 2 isa cross sectional view on thelme 22of Fig.1, looking in the direction of the arrow 2; one stop e reversely arranged sto leverbeingshown as only partially-raise to the uprlght position in which the levers are naturally sup-- ported when inoperative,
Figs. v3. and 4 are separate perspective views of the stop-carrier head and a stop lever respectively.
ver being shown in the corresponding rod 1 indicates a series of seven yarncarrier rods 5, 5, 5, an end one'5 of which may carry the main yarn while any one. or more of the others may be used 'for addi-- tional yarn-to be fed tocertain needles only ;as determinedby means which correspond-' ingly limit their feed movement. The drawing merely indicates midway portions of these rods, engaged insepar'ate guide waysof a supporting bracket'lO of which a series are commonly fixedto'the machine frame '11; each rod being provided with a suitable thread guide 12 adapted to lay its thread upon sinkers 13. As reviously stated description of the operatlon of the reciprocating and end-stop mechanisms commonly em ployed'and indicated in our priorpatent mentioned, is unnecessary to the understand-.
ing of my improved'supplemental stop mechpose. "Fixed to the machine frame-11, between .anis'in now set forth and which is o era'tive' -on .l upon stop lugs 15, 15 secure to the m1 way portions of the-rods. -for such pur two rod-supporting brackets 10 is a special stop-lever'braoket 20,-having a'. lever-carry- 1ng head 21 which overhangs the series'of rods and is spaced above the latterso as to ermit free passing of the stop lugs-15';
his head is formed with,supporting ears 21",21? fora pivot axle 22 which extends crosswiseof the rods 5 midwa of the width of the'head; and upon this ax e is ivoted a series of stop- levers 25, 25, 25 for t e several yarn-carrier rods 5. Eachof these levers is L-shaped'? as shown, having a pivot member apertured for mounting upon'the pivot axle adapted to into contact with either latter so as tobe engaged by a stop lug 15 on -'the corresponding'rod 5 forstopping the atter;,sa
movementoi the id de en m'gportion being provided with an a 1ustable con- .tact 25" as indicated, to permit of accurately regulating suoll stoppage, 'andia handle 25 operative lowered position; and the similar being provided; forconveniently operating each lever.
required; it understood 22 and a right-angled stop member 25"- teamdiately secured thereto, a
tion of each sto lug 15 on its rod ,afi'ectsthe, movement 0 the latter in one direction only without aifecting the limitation to its reverse movement provided for by the usual end-stop mechanism; and that any selected rod .may be utilized for a desired purpose as found preferable.
What'I claim is i 1. In a full fashioned knitting machine having a yarn feed mechanism comprising a series of reciprocatively operated yarn carrier rods; an intermediate sto mechanism for said rods comprising sto iilgs intermcbracket having a stop-carrier head spacedly overhanging-saidseries of rods and pro-.
vided with a pivot axle extending transversely of the atter, and a series of stop levers pivotally mounted on said axle to severally swing thereon into or out of lug-errgaging position,
2. In a full fashioned knitting machine having a yarn feed mechanism comprising a" series of reciprocatively operated yarn car- 0 l l I 0 nor rods; an intermediate stop mechanism for said rods comprising stop lugs intermediately secured thereto, a fixed stop-lever xed stop-lever" bracket having a stop-carrier bracket having a stop-carrier head spacedly overhanging said series of rods and provided with .a pivot axle extending transversely of the latter, and a series of stop levers pivotally mounted on said axle to severally;
series of reciprocatively operated yarn carrier rods; an intermediate sto for said rods comprising sto diately secured thereto, a
mechanism 1 ugs intermexcd stop-lever head spacedl'y overhanging said series of rods and provided with a pivot] axle extending transversely of the latter midway of the width of the head, and a series of L-sha ed stop levers pi'votall swing t eir stop members into contact with either side'of said head; the extremities of said contacted stop members depending bclow the latter to engage said lugs.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
