ANGLE-IRON BRACKET AND SLIDE.

Be it known that I, VVILLIAM H.-NonL'r- INe,f-a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Evansville, county of Vanderburg, and State of Indiana, have invented a certain new and useful Angle-Iron Bracket and Slide; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which like numerals refer to like parts. V
This invention relates to slide constructions for legs on furniture and household appliances.
The chief object of this invention is .to simplify the construction of slides which heretofore have been used. These slides have been of two types, one a discus shaped construction provided with a stem or pintle which was yieldingly and detachably supported by a standard caster socket, The other type of slide construction included a button head portion rigid with a support, in turn rigid y and relatively permanently secured to theleg of the household appliance or furniture article. For washing machines and the like, it is frequently desirable to utilize two casters and two slides upon a four legged machine. Likewise in the manufacture of furniture and household appliances to secure a relatively firm and stationary support, it is the practice to provide slides upon the legs thereof, which slides permit the workmen to work upon said furniture or appliances without the latter slipping or sliding during such working. Thereafter the slides are removed and replaced by casters. Such a procedure also preserves the ends of the legs.
The chief feature of the invention consists in the accomplishment of the foregoing object by constructing a bracket slide which is adapted to be clampingly engaged upon a multi-sided non-tubular leg, which slide construction includes a slide portion integral with the clamping portion.
The full nature of the invention will be understood from the accompanying drawings and the following description and claims.
In the drawings, Fig. 1 is a top plan view of one form of unitary slide and bracket applied to an angle iron leg. the latter being shown in section. Fig. 2is an elevational. view of the same. The combination bracket and slide is herein illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 as formed of a base 31 which supports a slide portion 32 and between said slide portion and said base there is preferably provided a reenforcing ring 33. In Figs. 1 and 2 the base 31 sup-' ports a pair of outwardly projecting ledges which are upturned as at 34, and these ledges are lipped as at 34?. In Figs. 7 and 8 another formof the invention is illustrated which is a modification of that shown in Figs. 1 to 1 inclusive.
Herein the base 331 supports the back 33* and the upwardly extending flanges 33+l which are-lipped as at 3345*. The band-338 is supported by the back 335 in substantially the samemanner as illustrated in the form of the invention shown in Figs. 3'
In Figs. 9 and 10 a further modified form of the invention is illustrated, and in this formof the invention the base- 131' supports the slide 4352 reenforced by the ring 433. The base also supports the upstanding clamping flanges 434- lipped as at 43 said flanges being substantially similar to those shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The back herein not only supports the band438 substantially-similar to the band'138 shown in Figs. 3 and l, but also supports'theflateral clamping flange or projection 136 substantially similar to the flan 'e 36 shown in Figs. '1
and 2, and as likewise illustrated in said figures, the flange &36 is: inclined at4r36 to Herein the back 135' and base 131 are extended and form a cup 137 adapted secure a wedging action, and its free end is turned or lipped at 436 to increase the clamping action.
In Figs. 11 and 12 amodifiedforinof the invention is illustrated, and in this form of the invention, the base 531 supports the usual slide 532, reenforced by the ring 533. The base also supports the upstanding flanges 534- having their free ends turned as at 53 1 to increase the clamping action and permit the ready application of the bracket to the angle iron leg. The base 531 also supports theback 535, and projecting from said back but adapted to engagethe-opposite side of the leg from that engaged by the adjacent upstanding flange 53a is a flange 539,'the free end of whichisturned at 539 to permit the ready application of the bracket to the leg. Although not herein illustrated the portions 539,.instead'of being a continuation or struck from theback 538 as illustrated and will be described subsequently, may be struck from the base and extended upwardly without departing from the broader features of this invention.
In'Figs. 13 and 1 1 a further modified form of the invention is illustrated, and in this form the base 631 supports the usual slide 632 reenforced by the usual ring 633. The base 631 likewise supports the back 635 which is extended: at 636 to form the usual lateral clamping flanges similar to the flanges 36' shown in Figs. 1' and 2, which flanges are inclined as indicated at 636 and the free ends of which are turned'as inclimated at 636". a
'In Figs. 15 and 16 a modified form of the invention is illustrated, and in this form of the invention the base 731 supports the usual slide 732 reenforcedby the usual ring 733. The base 731al'so supports the cup 737 and the back 735. Herein the back is shown apertured as at 739 to provide a flange 739, thefree end of which is turned as indicated at 739 to'permit of readyapplioa tion of the bracket to the leg.
In Figs. 17 and 18 there is illustrated a further modified formot the invention, which from inspection it will be noted, includes the several basic features illustrated in the preceding figures previously described. In this form of the invention the base 831 PPorts-the usual slide 832' reenforced' by the usual ring 833. The base 831 in addition thereto supports the cup portion 837 and extendingupwardly from said cup portion is the usual upwardly extending flange 834 having its 'free end turned as at 8345. The bas'e 831 also supports the back 835, and supported by. said back and as an extension thereof is the band 838. Also supported by theback 835 andextending therefrom is the lateral clamping flange 836 inclined as at 836 to secure a Wedging action and having its free end turned as at 836 to increase the clamping action.
In all of the preceding figures the slide construction has been conventionally illustrated and designated by the numerals 32 and 33 preceded by the appropriate designation corresponding to the figure illustrated. I
Reference will now be had to Figs. 19 to 23 wherein the various forms of slides are illustrated. In Fig. 19 the base 31 is shown supporting a slide 32, which slide is integral with said base 31 and is curved to form a cup. In Fig. 20 the base 31 is shown supporting the slide or cup 32, and interposed between the base and the slide or cup 32 is the reenforcing ring 33, which ring and slide are integral with the base 31.
In Figs. 21 to 23 inclusive the slide con struction is shown as a separate portion from the base, but supported and retained thereby. In Fig. 21 the base 931 is provided with a ring portion downwardly turned and indicated by the numeral 933 and integral with said base. The ring portion 933 is apertured as at 940, and positioned in said aperture 940 is the slide 942 which may be of rubber, wood, felt or any other suitable material. The slide 942 is provided with a peripheral groove 943' adapted to receive the supporting ring 933 and the head portion 944 is adapted to re tain the separable slide 942 upon the supporting ring and base 933 and 931 respectively.
In Fig. 22 a modified form of the invention is illustrated and herein the base 951 is provided with the usual reenforcing ring 952, cup-like in formation, and provided with a central opening 960. The separable slide 962 of suitable material such as previously described is reduced as at 963 so as to be seatable in the central opening 960. The extended portion 964 of said separable slide 962 is provided with an annular groove 965, and said annular groove is adapted to receive a split clamping spring ring 966 to retain said detachable slide 962 upon said base 951.
In Fig. 23 a modified form of slide construction is illustrated, and herein the base 971 includes a supporting and reenforcing ring 973. Herein the base 971 is extended to form an inverted cup, as at 974, and positioned in said cup is a suitable slide 982 having a locking portion 983 seatable in the cup thus formed.
lVhile the invention has been described in great detail in the foregoing specifications and illustrated with equal detail in the drawings, the same is to be considered as illustrative and not restrictive in character. The various modifications herein illustrated and described, as well as those suggested, and those which will readily sug gest themselves to those persons skilled in the art are all considered to be within the broad purview of this invention as outlined being integral with said base.
2. A slide for multi-sided non-tubular legs comprising a bracket for elampingly engaging said leg to yieldingly retain the same thereon, a base integral with the bracket, a slide including a curved portion, and a reenforcing ring interposed between said curved portion and said base.

and a reenforcing ring interposed between said curved portion and said base, said ring and said curved portion beingintegral with said base.

A- slide for multi-sided non-tubular legs comprising a base, a slide rigid. with said base and supported thereby, a cup secured to said base and adapted to envelope the end of the leg for clampingly securing the slide to the leg, and an upstanding clamp secured to said base for clampingly engaging the exterior of the leg for securing the slide to the leg. 4
5. A slide for Inulti-sided non-tubular legs comprising a base, a slide rigid with said base and supported thereby, a cup secured to said base and adapted to envelope the end of the leg for clampingly securing the slide to the leg, and a lateral clamp secured to said base for clampingly securing the slide to the leg.
6. A slide for multi-sided non-tubular legs comprising a base, a slide rigid with said base and supported thereby, a cup secured to said base and adapted to envelope the end of the leg for clampingly securing the slide to the leg, and a band for enveloping, the leg above thebase and secured thereto for; clainpingly securing said slide to said leg.

A slide for multi-sided non-tubular legs comprising a base, a slide rigid with said base and supported thereby, an upstanding clamp secured to said base for clampingly securing the slide to the leg, and a band for enveloping the leg above the base and secured thereto for clampingly securing said slide to said leg.
