IMPROVEMENT IN CANDLE-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 152,8 17, dated July 7', 1874; application filed May 23, 1874.

The invention relates to a candle-holder for use on Christmas trees, and other supports; and consists in the combination, with the spring-legs of the holders, of a weighted connecting-piece, which is adapted to be detached from one of the said legs, as hereinafter described.
In the drawing, A represents the candleholder or socket part, which is constructed in any one of the approved shapes for holding firmly and tightly the candle therein. The spring-legs B are soldered or otherwise applied to the under side of the socket-base, and bent in such a manner that they pass sidewise of each other and give to the curved parts a, immediately below the point of intercrossing, a spring action, so that this part not only fits onto the branch of the Christmas tree, but also adheres firmly to the point to which it has been applied. The lower parts of the legs B are spread out in inverted-V shape, being formed at one end with an eye, I),
and at the other with a hook, d, for connecting with the curved or V-shaped weighted Wire piece C, hung or pivoted by eyes b b thereto. Piece C may be hooked or unhooked from the end of leg B, so that the holder may be instantly and without delay attached to the exact point required. A colored glassdrop, glass prism, or any other suitable and ornamental body,D,may be hung to the vertex of the piece C, as well as to the ends of the leg B, and the holder be used without the connecting V-piece, for the purpose of weighting the candle and holding it always in Vertical position, and also for increasing the effect of'the same and allowing the trimming of a Christmas tree with less trouble than hitherto.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination, with the spring-legs B B of the candle-holder, of the suspended piece C and a weight, D, the said piece being made detachable from one of the legs, as shown and described, for the purpose specified.
