Beit known. that I, Gnoncn ERNEST QsMoND, a subject of@ the King Yot Great Britain, residingf atA` lf3 'Belford Street, Stra-nd, London, England, have invented certain' new and useful. Improvements in Display j Holders, ofwhich i the following Tis aspecieation. i t ,i
This inventionrefers to improvements in orl relating. tol frames v'or holdersffor displaying and storing articles such as photographs, picture-postcards. andA lthe like and it has for its object to provide a. device of the above kind which can be Vformedfrom a single shee-t'ofrpap-er, Afabric or other material or metal and which when folded up will provide a simple, neat and eliicient holder or frame which can be used in separate units, or adhesively or otherwise secured colectively toi the leaves of an album or the ike.
According to the present invention I provide a one-piece frame or holder for displaying and storing articles such as photographs, picture-postcards and the Y like, formed by shaping and `folding paper or other material and having a rear flap or strut hingedly connected to the back thereof and adapted to support the said frame or holder in any one of a plurality of positions.
In order that the present invention may be clearly understood and more readily oar-k ried into effect it is hereinafter described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in whichz-- Figure l is a. front plan view of a trame or holder showing indotted lines the position about which the various portions thereof are folded;
Figure 2 is a front elevation of the finished frame or holder; l
Figure 3 is a back elevation of the frame or holder with the rear flapI or strut open as when a photograph is about to be introduced into the traine;
Figure. 4 is a perspective view illustrating the frame when used horizontally, and
Figure 5 is a similar View illustrating the frame when used vertically.
Fig. 6 is a view in elevation of the holder having a floral ornament.
As shown and according to the present invention, and in one convenient manner of carrying same into effect I form the frame or holder from a vsingle sheetof stout paper or the like a which is cut to suitable` shape or outline, as for instance that shown in Figure 1,'so that when-folded up about the dotted lines b' soineivhatval'terf the nia-nner of envelope it" willipi'ovide fa framel or holder for the reception ofthefphotograph (Z with a rear flap or :strutvv a byineansof which thedev-ice may be supported-on ya table, viinantel-shelii or the; likev a horizontal orfvertical positionv (Figures 4 and l5` vrespecti've'ly') according to the- 'nature ofthe photograph held therein'. .f
The sheet off material 'a 'may kceaveaaitiy' be- 'off s'uch proportions as to' provide, as shown, a' square; or oblonggshaped. fra-m having aV central aperture c with suitably outlined inner edges, such, for instance, as straight sides with rounded corners. Disposed at two opposite sides of the blank are two large flaps a and a2, andat the two remaining and opposite sides small side flaps a3, at adapted to be folded or guinmed down over one of the main flaps a2 when the same is inposition, as shown in Figure 3. The side `ilaps a3 and at may conveniently be shaped to the rear flapor strut a', as shown,
so as to reduce the thickness of the folded v of such irregular design to stand above or project beyond the top or other edges, such irregular portion or portions as stand above or project beyond theV folding line of: the supporting or side flaps is cut out of the said flap portion or portions before same are bent back for use, as for instance is shown in Figure 6, where a floral ornament e is provided on the top portion of the iframe a and the said ornamentation e is partly cut out of the supporting flap e before the same is bent back into position.
Devices so formed will befound to be suitable for use for holding individual 'photographs-d, or they may be pasted or otherwise secured in an album leaving the photograph or the like free to be removed at any time. Obviously, also, instead or' providing such a frame or holder a with a single frainedike aperture 0 adapted to contain a single print, the frames or hold ers may be made of larger size. and adapted to hold several photographs in position.
If desired the photograph or the like in serted may be protected by the insertion of a loose, thin, flexible sheet ol transparent material such as paper, Celluloid or gelatine.
1. A display holder formed of a single sheet of material having a face section formed with an aperture of slightly less dimension than that of the section, the sheet being extended to form relatively narrow side flaps and in one direction beyond the face section to form a rear flap and in the opposite direction to form a flap adapted to be turned down to serve as a strut for supporting the device with the face section at an incline to the vertical, said strut having a. terminal portion shaped and-adapted to form a supporting edge longitudinally or transversely of the strut relative to the :tace section, whereby the strut is effective for supporting the holder on either its longitudinal or side edge.
2. A display holder formed of a single sheet ot material having a face section formed With an aperture ot' slightly less dimension than that of the section, the sheet being extended to :t'orm relatively narrow side flaps and in one direction beyond the face section to form a rear Hap and in the opposite direction to form a flap adapted to be turned down to serve as a strut for supporting the device With the face section at an incline to the vertical, said supporting section having a rounded free edge located at one side of the vertical central line of the device whereby said supporting section may be used to support the device on either the longitudinal or side edge of the 'face section.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed niy name.
G. ERNEST OSMOND.
