DOOR GAUGE lCLAMP Patented Mar. 3, 1.925. Y

yvermin: v. MGcoNNELnfor CINGiNNArI, omo.
:Doon-GAUGE CLAMP.
Application filed 'May 13,
To 'all fr0/wm t may concern:
Be it known that I, VONLEY V. MoCoN- NELL, a citizen of the United States, residing vat Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Door- Gauge Clamp, of which the following is a specification. I
VThis invention relates to door gauge clamps and it consists in the novel features hereinafter described and claimed.
An object of the invention is to providev a clamp mechanism of simple structure adapted lto be applied to the soffit board of a window or door `frame and is intended to hold the head board of the framing in proper position with relation to the jambs or stiles in order that the head boards may be properly marked olf and cut to t snugly in the window or Vdoor fra-me and `with re- Y. lation to the jambv boards.
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is aside elevational view of the upper portion of a window or door frame with the gauge applied to the soflit lboar-d.
Figure 2 is an enlarged transverse sectional view of the soffit board with the gauge and clamp applied.
Figure 3 is a perspective view ofa plat/e used in the gauge clamp.
As illustrated in the accompanying drawing, the soffit board of the window or door frame is indicated at 1, the jamb board at 2 and the head board at 3. The gauge clamp comprises a pair of rectangular boxes 4, each provided at its inner side with a fixed bolt 5 having a threaded end portion 6. A turn buckle 7 engages the threads 6 of the bolts 5 and serves as means for adjustably connecting the Vsaid bolts together in a usual manner. The boxes 4 are provided at the upper edges of their inner sides with outwardly disposed flanges 8 adapted to engage under the lower surface of the sofit board .1 when the gauge clamp is applied thereto.
Rectangular boxes 9 are mounted for telescopic movement in the boxes 4 and threaded shafts 10 are journaled in the bottom of the boxes 4 and their upper portions are threaded through the bottoms of the boxes. The boxes 9 are provided at their inner sides with vertically disposed slots 11 through which studs 12 pass, the said studs being fixed to the inner walls of the boxes 4. Set screws 18 are threaded through the outer walls of the boxes 4 and. when tightened` are adapted to engage against the outer surfaces of the outer walls of the boxes 9 whereby the boxes `9 are fixed with relation to the boxes 4. Plates 14 are housed within the boxes 9 and disposed parallel with the inner walls thereof and in close proximity thereto. The plates 14 are provided at their inner sides with prongs 15 which pass through the inner walls of the boxes 9 and which are adapted to engage in the edges of the soflit board 1 as best indicated in Figure 2 of the drawing. The plates 14 are provided with slots ,16 which register with the slots 11 and the studs 12 pass through the slots 16. Wing nuts 17 are screwed upon the inner ends of the studs 12 and bear against the inner faces of the plates 14 and serve to hold the said plates 14 in close contact with the inner surfaces of the inner walls. of the boxes 9. The upper portions of the boxesv fore when the boxes are applied to the soit board and the head board is rested upon one edge upon the upper edges of the boxes 9, the end portions of the head board 3 will be disposed across the jambs 2 in proper relation to the said soffit board and the jambs and may be readily marked off for cutting to fit between the jambs or to provide a mitre joint between the head board and the jamb board as is desired.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is 1. A clamp gauge adapted to be applied to a soffit board comprising boxes provided at their inner sides with threaded bolts, means for drawing the bolts toward each other, other boxes vslidably mounted in the first mentioned boxes, means for adjusting the inner boxes with relation to the outer boxes and'plates adjustably mounted in the inner boxes.
2. A gauge clamp comprising an outer box, an inner box slidably mounted therein and provided at its side with openings, means for holding the inner box at an adjusted position with relation to the outer box, a plate mounted in the inner box and having prongs vpassing through the side openings of the inner box and means for lsjecurng the plate with relation to the inner 3. A gauge comprising an outer box, an inn-er box adjustztbly mounted in the outer box and provided at its side with openings7 means Jfor securing the inner bO'X 'with relation to the outer box, the inner box being provided at its side With a slot, ay stud carried by the outer box -ztndpassing through said slot, a plate located in the inner box and having prongs which pass through the openings thereof, said plate being provided 10 with aslot adapted to register With the Slot in the inner box, and means `for securing the plate With relation to the inner box.
In testimony whereof I afix my signature.
VONLEY V. MCCONNELL.
