METALLIC SLIDE FOR EXTENSION TABLES.
Application filed January 19, 1922. Serial No. 530,384.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES T. SornL- LING, a citizen of the United States, residing at State College, in the county of Center and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Metallic Slides for Extension Tables, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to extension tables and more particularly to the slides thereof and the primary object of the invention is to provide a novel extension table'slide in which the units thereof are all stamped or pressed from sheet metal, each unit being so formed that the same can be made from a single rectangular sheet of metal, thereby obviating the necessity of riveting or otherwise fastening pieces together as now contemplated in metal slides heretobefore patented.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a slide'for extension tables having the units thereof so shaped as to combine .with one another in such a manner as to permit free longitudinal sliding movement thereof but to absolutely preclude any lateral movement thereof, thereby providing a strong and rigid structure.
' A still further object of the invention is the provision of a novel metallic table slide embodying a number of units which can be readily or quickly separated to permit more or less units to be added thereto or taken away therefrom according to the desired length to which the table is to be extended.
lVith these and other objects in view, the
invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and formation of parts, as will be hereinafter more specifically described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which drawings: I Figure 1 is a bottom plan view of a table top showing the improved slides associated therewith the table being in its extended position.

Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the letter A indicates an extension gable; and B and C, the novel slides there- The table A can be of the usual or any preferred type and therefore a description thereof is deemed unnecessary. As shown, however, the same includes the two top pieces 10 and 11, the central pedestal or leg 12 and the bridge piece 13 carried thereby.
The slides B and G are constructed identically the same and therefore a description of one is suflicient for both.
Each of the slides B and C include end units 15 and 16 and intermediate units 17, 18 and 19. As shown the slides each include five units, but it is to be understood however, that more or less units can be readily added thereto or taken therefrom. The end units 15 and 16 are formed substantially the same, while the intermediate units 17, 18 and 19 are constructed identically the same. and all of the units are so formed and constructed that the same can be cut and stamped from a single sheet of metal as will be hereinafter more fully apparent as the description proceeds.
Each of the end sections 15 and 16 include an attaching base 20, which has one longitudinal edge turned in abutting relation therewith as at 21 to provide a reinforcement therefor. The opposite longitudinal edge of the base 20 of the section 10 is bent outwardly into a substantially U-shaped form, to provide a guide or rail 22, while the corresponding portion of the bar 20 of the unit 15 is turned inwardly to provide the guide or rail 22. The metal is then again bent back in parallel relation to the walls of the U-shaped guides or tracks 22 and 22 at right angles to the attaching bases 21 to provide guide walls 23. The guide walls 23 of the unit 16 has its lower or free edge bent back upon itself as at 24 to provide a reinforcement for the guide .be hereinafter more fully described while the guide wall23. of the unit (-15 vhas its, vlower or free edge bent back to providea guide or ra1l 24.
