To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM F. GRUPE, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Lyndhurst, county of Bergen, State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Variable Feeders for Metallized Transfer Rolls, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to variable feeders for metallized transfer rolls.
object of this invention is to provide means for feeding metallized transfer strips, usually comprising a paper carrier and leaf of gold or other metallized transfer media, for variable extent. A further object is to provide feeding means for a plurality of strips and adjustable for the different strips independently of one another.
Another object of the invention is to provide improved means for supporting the rolls of metallized strips and located on the in full visibility of the operator, to thereby insure attention during the feeding operation and in the event that any roll becomes depleted.
A. further feature provide an arrangement for simultaneously feeding the respective strips in substantially horizontal travel of the strips, and also to afford ready application as an attachment or accessory to existing tipping machines, book stamping machines an other impression machines utilizing roll leaf or metallized paper, or both.
Pursuant to a preferred form of the invention; the attachment comprises suitable se arate mounting means for the respective rolls of metallized paper; means for feeding the respective strips unwound from said -rolls; separate adjustment means for the re-' spective feeding means; common actuating means for the separate ad ustment means,

In Fig. 1, I have indicated a standard stamping machine for bookcases, with which the graduated feed mechanism is applicable.
It will be understood, however, that the invention is not limited as an attachment to machines of this general type, but is utiliz able also in connection generally with printing presses and machines, and impression machines or devices generally.
Referring to Fig. 1', the fresh rolls 11 of metallized paper may be placed in a tray or like receptacle 10. The corresponds to the number of imprints desired to be applied in the impression operaelevation on line 10-1(l number of rolls 11 tion, and which is usually at least four imprints on the back of the book, namely, the title of the volume; the name of the author; the volume number if of more than'one volume; and the name and address of the ublisher; and, frequently, the title on the rent cover of the case. As is indicated in Fig. 12 the title of the volume and the volume number may be impressed from a single strip of foil or metallized transfer medium.
The strips of metallized paper are of the desired color or colors, and of widths corresponding to the heights of the respective imprints. The free end 12 of each roll is passed under a guide 13, extending a proper distance below the die 14, as will be understood by those skilled in the art. Each strip 12 is then passed under the guide 15 on the opposite side of the die 14, thence through the feed mechanism 16, as described more fully hereinafter.
It will be understood that there are one or more dies 14 depending in number upon, the nature of the lengths of and the lateral spacings between the respective imprints of the impression, and the number of strips, of the rolls 11 of embellishing paper is selected to attain economy in the consumption of the cmbellishing paper. Such one or more dies 14 are removably held in the under opening of the common clamp head 17 of the embossing or case stamping machine. The case 18 of a book or other article is located on the platen 18, operated by a crank and pitman of the usual or approved form, in geared relation with the fly-Wheel 19. The shaft 20 of the fly-wheel 19 may be driven manually or by belt and pulley or other form or arrangement.
On the shaft 20 is mounted the gear 21 meshing with the large gear 22, on the shaft 23 of which is secured the crank arm 24, having the radial slot 25, for adjustably receiving a clamp nut (not shown), set by a lock nut 27, for variable throw of the pitman 28. On the free end of the pitman 28 carried the rack 29 slidably mounted in the sleeve 30, loosely pivoted about the shaft :32, see Figs. 1 and 3. The shaft 32 serves as the drive shaft of the variable feeding mechanism. The rack 29 meshes with a suitable gear 33, see Figs. 1, 3 and 5, keyed to the shaft 32, whereby for each rotation of the fiy-wheel 19, of the stamping machine, or equivalent, corresponding to a complete up and down movement of the platen 18, the drive shaft 32 is rotated in a feeding direction by its gear 33, meshing with the rack 29, corresponding to the set-- ting of the pitman 28 relative to the crank 24. Referrin to Figs. 3 and 5, the shaft 32 is mounte in the end bearings 34, 35, of
the frame 36 of the variable feeding mechanism 16. At the end of the shaft 32, opposite to that of the gear 33, is keyed the main drive gear 37, see Fig. 9.
In the form of the feeding mechanism 16,
as shown in Fig. 3, there are three primary feed rolls 38 38", 38, see also Fig. 2, and on the respective shafts of the feed rolls are loosely mounted the respective gears 39, 39", 39. To effect uni-directional drive of the respective feed rolls, upon movement of the main drive gear 37, the intermediate gears 40, 40 and 40 are interposed betweenthe threaded nut 48 and lock nut 49, and the compression spring 50 is interposed between the nut 48 and the friction collar 47.
Between the collar 42 and the feed roll 38 is interposed the clutch 51, see Figs. 10 and 11, comprising the outer shell clutch member 52; the inner clutch member 53, keyed to the shaft 38 of the feed roll 38*, the inner clutch member 53 being provided with a desired number of spaced pockets 54, each of the usual tapered formation and enclosing a locking and unlocking roller 55, biased by a short expansive spring 56. The shaft 44 and the inner shaft 38 are integral or connected to one another in any desirable manner, and the inner clutch member is splined or otherwise locked to the shaft 38*, whereby upon rotation of the shaft 38 opposite to the direction of the arrow 57 the clutch rollers 55 couple the outer clutch member 52 to the inner clutch member 53, and thereby couple the feed roll 38 to the shaft 38, i. e. shaft 44, to effect feeding rotation of the feed roll 38, i. e., in the same direction as the arrow 57. Upon rotation of the shaft 44 and the inner clutch member 53 in a direction opposite to that of the arrow 57, the rollers 55 are automatically respectively unclutched, leaving the inner clutch member 53 and the feed roll 38 quiescent.
Each feed roll, see feed roll 38, Figs. 10 and 6, is preferably provided with such clutch adjacent its opposite ends, and like clutch parts are designated by the same reference characters.
Each feed roll, see feed roll 38, Figs. 10 and 6, is preferably mounted on ball bearings 58 uitable means is provided for bringing the feed mechanism as a whole to rest, and
operated by suitable means, such as the treadle 61, see Fig. 1,- the treadle 61 is connected by the link 62 to the arm 63 of a bell crank pivoted on the stud 6t. The other arm 65 of the bell crank is connected by the link 66 to the arm 67 of a suitable bell crank lever, the other arm 68 of which, see Figs. 1, 3, 4 and 5, terminatesin the form of a segmental gear 69,- meshing with the rack 70 at one end of the shift rod 71,- slidably mounted in suitable openings in the opposite sides of the frame 36. The shift rod 71 is provided at its opposite end 72, see Fig. 9, with the fork member 73 fixed thereto. The fork member 73, is located between the opposite flanges 74: of a suitable movable clutch member, having teeth or the like on its face '74, for coupling with similar teeth or the like on the adjacent face of the gear 37. The movement of the shift rod 71 in the direction of the arrow 75, see Figs. 1, 3, 5 and 9; upon depression of the trea-dle 61, as above described, effects uncoupling of the clutch member 71 with the gear 37, and accordingly cessation of the drive of the gears 39, 39", 39, of the respective feed rolls 38 38", 38, whereas movement of the shift rod 71, upon return movement of its coiled spring 75 in the direction opposite to that indicated by the arrow 75, effects coupling of the clutch member 74 with the gear 37 and the consequent actuation of the aforesaid feed rolls as aforesaid.
Suitable regulating means are employed whereby the extents of actuation of the respective feed rolls in the direction of the arrow 80, are respectively controlled. Such mechanism comprises individual adjusting elements for the respective feed rolls whereby each feed roll is controlled independently of the other feed rolls. Preferably, and as is illustrated in Figs. 1, 3, 4 and 6 of the drawings, such adjusting elements are of the rotative type and graduated to indicate in inches or like linear displacement the de- SlIied extents of travel of the respective feed ro ls.
One such form of adjusting element is illustrated in assembly in Figs. 3 and 5 and in detail Figs. 4, 6 and 7.
The adjustingelements for the respective feed rolls are of the same construction, and
accordingly, the same reference characters are applied to like parts and the description of a single adjusting element will suffice.
The knurled head 81 is set manually by rotatingthe same in the direction of the arrow 82, see Fig. 3, for the extent of indication in inches as desired. Secured to the stem of the knurled head 81 is a gradu; ated disk 83, hearing markings in inches and fractions of inches. In the particular .embodiment illustrated, the maximum extent of rotation is eleven inches and ac cordingly, the inch markings appear from 1 to 11. The maximum extent of rotation of the feed roll varies with the size of any particular feed roll mechanism, and
also corresponds to the maximum throw of the adjustable cam 24:, 25, all of which are selected in accordance with the requirements of the stamping or other impression machine, to which the feed roll mechanism is attached.
As is illustrated diagrammatically in Fig. 2, the form of feeding of the respective strips of inetallized paper is by means of the feed rolls 38, 38", 38, each coacting with a roll 105, preferablv of rubber composition or having an exterior periphery of such resilient material, between which roll 105 and its feed roll, the strip of metallized transfer material is threaded. Such rolls 105 may be idly rotatably mounted in the frame 16, or positively driven by individual driving means similar to the driving mechanism for the feed rolls 38 38 38. The take-up rolls 106, 106", 106, corresponding in number to the feed rolls, as is indicated common shaft 107, to have slight frictional engagement therewith, to accommodate for different lengths of strips fed by the respective feed rolls. The shaft 107 is driven by any suitable means such as a belt 108 passing over any suitablepulley 109, as on the shaft 23, of the impression machine, and a pulley 114 on the shaft 107.
The shaft 107 is preferably mounted in a slide end bearing 107, set by a set screw 107*, to facilitate removal of filled take-up rofls 106 and replacement. of empty take-up ro s.
Any slack between the rolls 11 of metallized paper in the tray 10 and the feeding mechanism is minimized by any suitable means, such as brakes in the form of pivoted weights 110, see Fig. 1, or equivalent, for the respective rolls 11.

proper stage of each cycle of operation of n i As appears in Fig. 6,,the milled head 81 and scale disk 83 are centrally mounted on a stud 84, passing through the opening 85 in the rear face of the casing 86; the front plate 87 of the casing 86 is provided with openings for receiving the reduced inner portions of the scale disks 83 and upon clamping each stud 84 by its nut 84, the protruding edge 83 of the outer, enlarged portion of the scale disk 83 is brought into firm engagement with the front plate 87 of i the casing. The block 88 is loosely mounted on a boss on the rear face of the rear wall of the casing 86. To the block 88 is secured the tail piece 89, see Figs. 7 and 8, serving with the smooth end 91 of its feed roll 38, to act as a brake. Preferably, a pad 90, of felt or like material, is secured to the effective face of the tail piece 89 for facilitating braking. The brake block 88 and brake 89 are controlled by the pin 92, see Figs. 6, 8, 3 and 5, projecting from the block 88 and extending through the slot 93 in the casing 86.
Coacting with the stop pin 92 is a pin 94 carried by the gear 95, disposed within the casing 86 and loosely mounted on the stud 84. The gear 95 meshes with the gear 96, pinned to the shaft 97, extendii'ig into the casing 86 through a suitable bearing opening 98, and connected to or integral with the shaft 38*.
To the graduated disk member 83, is secured its stop pin 100, located atits zero marking and extending into the casing 86 in the path of the stop pin 94 oft he gear 95. The coaetion of the stop pins just described is effected by the manual setting of the stop pin 100 of the disk member 83, after unloosening the nut 84 of the stud 84, then tightening the nut 84, whereby the stop pin 100 is located in the arcual path of the pin 94 of the gear 95 corresponding to the desired extentof rotative feeding movement of the feed roll 38*, opposite to the direction of the arrow 57, Figs. 10 and 11, thereby arresting the feed roll 38* through the remainder of the rotation of its gear 39*. driven by the main gear 37, under actuation by the pit- .man 28 in its actuating stroke, during which remaining period the gear 39 continues its rotation, by the provision of the friction washers 40, 45, and the spring 50, but without substantial strain on the collar 42 and the shaft 4438 Upon the return stroke of the pitman 28 and reverse rotation of the main gear 37, the gear 39 is rotated in its reverse movement, namely that of the arrow 57, see Figs. 10 and 11, thereby reversing the rotation of the shaft 44, 38*, the gear 96, the gear 95 and its stop-pin 94 until the stop-pin 94 encounters the stop-pin 92 of the brake block 88, whereupon the tail piece 89 is brought into engagement with the smooth face 91 of the end of the feed roll 38 and the train of parts just described are brought to rest, and including the collar 42, whereafter the gear 39 continues the remainder of its reverse rotation idly, by the provision of the friction washers 40, and the spring -50. During such reverse movement of the shaft 44, 38*, the clutches 51 are respectively brought to their unclutched positions, as described hereinabove, and the feed roll 38 remains quiescent.
In a similar manner,-'the stop pins 100 of the other graduated disk members 83 are individually set to regulate the desired extent of effective feeding movement of the feed rolls 38", 38, etc., and independentlyof one another and of the feed roll 38.
The operation of the respective parts of the variable feed mechanism will be understood from the foregoing description:
In Fig. 12, is illustrated a book-case 115. bearing the desired impression 116 on its front cover 117 and the desired impressions 118, 119 on its back 120. In such instance, three strips 12, 12", 12 are required and the usedlengths of the respective strips are set at such excess as is practicable or as desired by adjustment of the respective manual adjusting members 81. The feeding of the three strips ensues during the stage of recession of the platen 18, and during the recession stage the next duplicate bookcase 115 is placed on the platen 18, at the location 18. see Fig. 1, for impression thereon. similarly as on the previous bookcase 115. These operations are repeated for the required numher of bookcases 115 desired to be impressed by duplicate impressions. Usually, on the book-backs of a bookcase of law volumes and the like, the number of lines or impressions extends from ten to fifteen or more. and my variable feeding means by reason of the extension of each feeding roll from one side of the open frame to the opposite side atfords ample space for threading of the appropriate number of strips of emhellishing paper, thus permitting such fifteen or more impressions to be made at a single impact with the die or dies by the use of a set of three feeding rolls.
The guides 13 and 15 are preferably in the form of coiled metal, i. e.. coiled springs. ex tending horizontally above the path of movement of the platen 18. for the purpose luo of minimizing the heat incidentto the fricv Whereas, I have described my invention by reference to specific forms thereof it will be understood that many changes and modifications may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
I claim:
1. A; feeding mechanism for stamping and other impression machines provided with common die holding means; comprising suitable means for supporting a plurality of strips of impression material; and means for feeding said plurality of strips respectively to said common die-holding means to regulatable extents, said feeding means comprising a plurality of separate pairs of feeding rolls, means for respectively regulating the extents of feeding movementof said pairs of feeding rolls respectively and common means driven from the impression machine for actuating said feeding rolls.
2. a feeding mechanism for stamping and other impression machines provided with dis holding means; comprising suitable means for supporting a plurality of strips of impression material; and means for feeding said plurality of strips respectively to said die holding means to regulatable extents, said feeding means comprising a plurality of separate pairs of feeding rolls, gears respectively driving said pairs'of feeding rolls, means for respectively regulatin tents of feeding movement of said pairs of feeding rolls respectively and common means driven from the impression machine for driving said gears. 3. A feeding mechanism for stamping and other impression machines provided with common die holding means: comprising means for supporting a plurality of strips of impression material; and means for feeding said plurality of strips simultaneously respectively to said common die holding means to-regulatable extents, said feeding means comprising an open frame, a plurality of separate pairs of feeding rolls, said rolls being rotatably mounted in said open frame, each of said rolls being substantially cylindrical and extending substantially from one side of said open frame to the opposite side thereof, gears respectively drivin said pairs of feeding rolls, means for individually reg ulating the extents of driving movement of said gears to thereby regulate the extents of effective feeding movement of said pairs of feeding rolls respectively and common means driven from the impression machine for drivin said gears.

A fee 'ng mechanism for stamplng and other impression machines provided with die holding means; comprising means for supporting a plurality of strips of impression material; means for feedin said plurality of strips respectively to sald die holding means to regulatable extents, said feedthe ex-' pairs of feeding ing means comprising a plurality of separate (pairs of feeding rolls; and common melziins for mounting said pairs of feeding ro s.

A feeding mechanism for stamping and other impression machines provided with die holding means; comprising means for supporting a plurality of strips of impression material; means for feeding said plurality of strips respectivel means to regulatable extents, said feeding means comprising a plurality of separate pairs of feeding rolls; and common means for mounting said pairs of feeding rolls and said strips supporting means.

A feeding mechanism for stamping and other impression machines provided with die holding means; comprising suitable means for supporting a plurality of strips of impression material; and means for feeding said plurality of strips respectively to said die holding means to regulatable extents, said feeding means comprising a plurality of separate pairs of feeding rolls, means for individually regulating the extents of feeding movement of said pairs of feeding rolls respectively; means for taking-up the used portions of said plurality of strips respectively; and common means driven from the impression machine for actuating said feeding rolls.

A feeding mechanism for stamping and other impression machines provided with die holding means; comprising suitable means for supporting a plurality of strips of impression material; and means for feeding said plurality of strips-respectively to said die holding means to regulatable extents, said feeding means comprising a plurality ing rolls and said taking-up means: and common means driven from the impression machine for actuating said feeding rolls.

A feeding mechanism for stamping and other impression machines provided with (lie holding means, comprising means for supporting a plurality of strips of impression material; and means for feeding said plurality of strips respectively to said die holding means to regulatable extents, said feeding means comprising a plurality of rality of feeding rolls, gears respectively driving said plurality of feeding rolls, said rolls being rotatably mounted insaid open frame, each of said rolls being substantially cylindrical and extending substantially from one side of said open frame to the opposite side thereof, means for individually regulating the extents of feeding movementof said feeding rolls and adjustable common means driven from the impression machine for driving said gears.

A feeding mechanism for stamping and other impression machines provided yvith common die holding means; comprismg means for supporting a plurality of str1p s of impression material; and means for feeding said plurality of strips simultaneously respectively to said common die holdng means to regulatable extents, said feedmg means comprising an open frame, a plurality of feeding rolls, said rolls being rotatably mounted in said open frame, each of said I'Olls being substantially cylindrical and extending substantially from one side of said open frame to the opposite side thereof, gears respectively driving said plurality of feeding rolls, means for individually regulating the extents of driving movementof said gears to thereby regulate the extents of effective feeding movement of said feeding rolls and adjustable common means driven from the impression machine for driving said gears.

A feeding mechanism for stamping and other impression machines provided with common die holding means, comprising means for supporting a plurality of strlps of impression material; means for feeding said plurality of strips respectively to said common die holding means to regulatable extents, said feeding means comprising an open frame, a plurality of feeding members, said feeding members being rotatably mounted in said open frame, each of said feeding members being substantially cylindrical and extending substantially from one side of said open frame to the opposite side thereof, rotary driving elements for said plurality of feeding members respectively, means for respectively regulating the ex- .tent of driving movement of said driving elements to thereby regulate the extents of effective movement of said feeding members and common means driven from the impression machine for driving said rotary driven elements.

A feeding mechanism for stamping and other impression machines provided with common die holding means, comprising means for supporting a plurality of strips of impression material; means for feeding said plurality of strips respectively to said common die holding means to regulatable extents, said feeding means comprising an open frame, a plurality of feeding members, said feeding members being rotatably mounted in said open frame, each of said feeding members being substantially cylindrical and extending substantially from one side of said open frame to the opposite side thereof, rotary driving elements for said plurality of feeding-members respectively, means for'respectively regulating the extent of driving movement of said driving elements to thereby regulate the extents of effective movement of said feeding members and adjustable common means driven from the impression machine for driving said rotary driven elements.

A feeding mechanism for stamping and. other impression machines provided with common die holding means, comprising means for supporting a plurality of strips of impression material; means for feeding said plurality of strips respectively to said common die holding means to regulatable extents, said feeding means comprising an open frame, a plurality of feeding members, said feeding members being rota tably mounted in said open frame, each of said feeding members being substantially cylindrical and extending substantially from one side of said open frame to the opposite side thereof. unidirectional driving elements for said plurality of feeding members respectively, means for respectively regulating the extent of driving movement of said driving elements to thereby regulate the extents of effective movement of said feeding members and common means driven from the impression machine for driving said unidirectional driven elements.

A feeding mechanism for stamping and other impression machines provided with common die holding means, comprising means for supporting a plurality of strips of impression material; means for feeding said plurality of strips respectively to said common die holding means to regulatable extents, said feeding means comprising an open frame, a plurality of feeding members. said feeding members being rotattional driven elements.

A feeding mechanism for and other impression machines provided with common die holding means, comprising means for supporting a plurality of strips of impression material and means for feeding said plurality of strips respectively to said common die holding means toregulatable extents, said feeding means comprising an open frame, a pluralityof feeding members, said feeding members being rotatably mounted in said open frame. each of said feeding members being substantially cylindrical and extending substantially from one side of said open frame to the opposite side thereof. and means for individually regulating'the extents of feeding movement of said feeding members. said feeding means further comprising clutch means respectively for said plurality of feeding members.

A feeding mechanism for stamping and other impression machines provided with die holding means. comprising meansfor supporting a plurality of strips of impression material and means for feeding said plurality of strips respectively to said dieholding means to regnlatable extents, said feeding means comprising a plurality of feeding members and means for individually regulating the extents of feeding movement of said feeding members. said feeding means further comprising clutch means re spectively for said plurality of feeding members and means for positively preventing overthrow and reverse motionof said,
feeding members.

A feeding mechanism for stamping and other impression machines provided with die holding means. comprising means for supporting a plurality of strips of impression material, means for feeding said plurality of strips respectively to said die holding means to regulatable extents, said feeding means comprising a plurality of feeding members and means for individually regulating the extents of feeding movement of said feeding members, said feeding means further comprising clutch means respectively for said .plurality of feeding members, common means driven from impression machine for actuating said feeding means. and means for positively preventing overthrow and reverse motion of said feeding members.

A feeding mechanism for stamping and other impression machines provided with die holding means, comprising means for supporting a plurality of strips of im-. pression material, means for feeding said plurality of strips respectively to said die holding means to regulatable extents, said feeding means comprising a plurality of feeding members and means for individually regulating the extents of feedingme'irement of said feedingmembem, said feeding means further comprising clutch means respectively for said plurality of feeding members, adjustable common means driven from the impression machine for actuating said feeding means, and means for positively preventing overthrow and reverse motion of said feeding members.

A feeding mechanism for stamping and other impression machines provided with die holding means. comprising means for supporting a plurality of strips of impression material, means for feeding said plurality of strips respectively to said die holding means to regulatable extents, said feeding means comprising a plurality of feeding members. means for individually regulating the extents of feeding movement of said feeding members: common means driven from the impression machine for actuating said feeding members: and clutch means for uncoupling said feeding mechanism from operative relation with the impression machine. thereby permitting the impression machine to be operated in the absence of actuation of said feeding means.

Feeding mechanism for stamping and other impression machines provided with die hold means, comprising means for supporting a plurality of strips of impression material: means for feeding said plurality of strips respectively to said die holding means to regulatable extents, said feeding means comprising a plurality of feeding members. means for respectively regulating the extents of feeding movement of said feeding members. and clutch means respectively for said feeding members; common means driven from the impression machine for actuating said feeding means and means for positively preventing overthrow and reverse movement of said feeding members.

Feeding mechanism for stamping and other impression machines provided with die holding means. comprising means for supporting a plurality of strips of impression material: means for feeding said plurality of strips respectively to said die holding means to regulatable extents. said feeding means comprising a plurality of feeding members, means for respectively regulating the extents of feeding movement of said .feeding members. and ratchet means respectively for said feeding members: common meansdriven from the impression machine for actuating said feeding means and means for positively preventing overthrow and re verse movement of said feeding members.

A' feeding mechanism for stamping and other impression machines provided with common die holding means; comprising means for supporting a plurality of strips of impression material; means for feeding said strips simultaneously respec- V tively to said common die holding means to regulatable extents, said feeding means comprising a plurality of feeding rolls; common means for actuating said feeding rolls; manually operable means including a clutch for simultaneously connecting and disconnecting said feeding rolls relativeto said common actuating means; and common means for mounting said feedingrolls and said strip supporting means, said feeding rolls extending from one side to the opposite side of said common mounting means and each of said feeding'rolls being substangially cylindrical throughout its feeding surace.

A feeding methanism for stamping and other im ression machines. provided with common die holding means; comprising means for supporting a plurality of stri s of impression material; means for fee ing said strips simultaneously respectively to said common die holding means to regulatable extents, said feeding means comprising a plurality of feeding rolls; common means for actuating said feeding rolls; manually operable means vincluding a clutch for simultaneously connecting and disconnecting said feeding rolls relative to said common actuating means; and common means for mounting saidfeeding rolls and said strip supporting means, said feeding rolls extending from one side to the opposite side of saidcommon mounting means and each of said feeding rolls being substantially cylindrical throughout its feed ing surface. y 39. A feeding mechanism for a stamping and other impression machines provided with die holding means; comprising means for supporting a plurality of strips of impression material; means for-feeding said strips respectively to said die holding means to regulatable extents, said feeding means comprlsing a plurality of feeding rolls; common means for driving said feeding rolls, clutch means for connecting and disconnecting said common means relative to a suitable power applying means and a frame for mounting said feeding rolls, said common driving means and said clutch means in common on said impression machine.

A feeding mechanism for a stamping and other impression machines provided with die holding means; comprising means for supporting a plurality of strips of impression material; means for feeding said strips respectively to said die holding means to regulatable' extents, said feeding means comprising a plurality of feeding rolls; common means for driving said feeding rolls, clutch means for connecting and disconnecting said common means relative to a suitable power applying means and a frame for .mounting said feeding rolls; said strips supporting means, said common driving ,means and said clutch means in common on WILLIAM F.
