ELUID DISPENSER. l
t Application' mednarch 2e, 1923. yserial No. 627,539.
Be it known that I, Anci-UE M. SUND, a citizen of the United States, residingat Minneapolis, in thecounty of" Hennepin and `State of lllinnesota. `have invented a new and useful Fluid Dispensen'of which theV following is aspecification.
i y invention relates to-improvements in fluid dispensers. i
Its object is to provide .a durable and inexpensive dispenser for fluids having avalved outlet. the'valve mechanism being adapted to be actuated by a receptacle into which fiuid is to be drawn. y
A further object is to supplya sanitary dispenser of the present nature, wherein `the escaping fluid is -free from contact with the valve actuatingj'mechanism, said dispenser having Va limited"`number of separa- "fble partsfa'dapted to be quickly and easily disassembled forcleansingpurposes and rebassembledfor'usef; y. y I
- "Anoth/er object 1s to s1mpl1`fy the. construction of a fluid dispenser including a normally sealed container by employing the 'air vent as a `guide for the'valve actua-t mechanism. i
Tith the foregoing and other objects in view,`which will appear in the following description, the invention resides in the novel combination and `arrangement of parts and "in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed."V
ln the drawings, Fig. 1 is avertical, central, sectional `View of 'a dispenser embodying mylinvention "and 2 is a sectlonal view in vdetail taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
includes a jar A, a cap'B` and a bracket The jar A. is formed with1 a neck 10 hav- The embodiment shown in the drawing,`
4 ing external threads 11 thereon. `The cap "B l consists of aT closure piece 12 formed with an 'annular flange b thereon, the portion of saidilange remote `from said yclo-` sure piece 12 being enlarged as Iat 13;toj `form a handheld for purposes soon toappear. The restricted annular portion of said angeadjacent to the closure piece 12 is pressed or otherwisey formed'to supply internal threads 14 and external threads 15, the former 'being desi I ed to fit the threads l10n the neck 10 of t e jar A. The bracket C comprises an attaching plate 16 and a ring 17 reachin horizontally therefrom,
said ring being t readed internally to re =ly seat the valve member 19. Y member E is secured to the extremity of ceivethe external threads 1,5 on the cap B and hold the assembled jar and cap in inverted position, as shown in Fig; 1. A
funnel-like spout 18 is al plied to the cap Band supplies an outlet or fluid contained within the jar A. A ball valve19 fits with- 'in the tapered seat 2O in said spout and normallyv obstructs the same. A tube 21 carried by the cap B opens therethrough into the outer air and projects into the jar :above the high liquid level therein, the length of said tube being only slightly less than the depth of thel jar. A U-shaped valve. stem D is provided. the branchy 22 .thereof being guided in the tube 21 and the branchv 23 thereof being Vfastened at its extremity to the ball valve 19. A spring 24, anchored at one end to the cross member or head 25 of the valve stem, bears against the jar A andoperates to yielding- A tripping the valve stem branch 22and is adapted to` i rbe engaged by'a` cup 26 or other receptacle into which fluidv is to be drawn from the dispensenV Said tripping member E includes a shank 27 having an internally threaded bore which receives the contracted threaded end 22* of vthebranch 22. An
`arm or abutment 28 swings on a pivot 29 `1n theshank 27, a leaf spring 29 on the shank being arranged to engageright an.-
f `gular portions 30 and 31'on saidarm adjacentto the pivot 29. This spring 29 in co-operating with the portion 30 holds the arm 28 at right angles withresp'ect to the shank: 27 and, in co-operatingwith the por-- tion 31, holds said arm in alignment with the shank 27 in the same manner as a jackquantity of liqui has been drawn from the dispenser, the pressure of the receptacle against the arm 28 is relieved, whereupon thevalve 19. is reseated. When said .valve 19 is lifted from its seat, i objectionable swinging movements of the valve stem D is prevented by means of valve guiding lugs 32 (Fig. 2) rising from the valve seat 20.
To refill the jar. the assembled jar and cap are removed from the bracket C, by unthreading the cap from the ring 17, through the medium of the handhold 13. After turning the jar A end for end and removing the cap B a new charge of liquid is poured into the jar, said cap being thereafter replaced on the jar. The jar is then inverted, the cap B being re-threaded in the supporting ring 17.
In cleansing the device, the valve stem D, which is normally carried by the cap B, may be. detached from said cap by first swinging the arm 28 into alignment. with the branch 22 and withdrawing the same from the tube 21, or b-y first unthreading the shank 27 from said branch 22.
Changes in the specific form of my invention, as herein disclosed, may be made Within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of my invention.
