IMPROVEMENT IN MOVAJBLE STORE-COUNTERS.

To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, JOSEPH GRIMEs, of North Groves, in the county of Miami and State of Indiana, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Movable Counters; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation ofthe same, reference being had to the annexed drawings making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.

Figure l of the drawing is a representation of a sectional view, and Fig'. 2 a detailed seetional view, of my counter. Fig. 3 is a detail, and Fig. 4 a plan, view of the same. Figs. 5 and 6 are end views.

This invention relates to counters and shelving for stores, wherein it is desired to readily remove them and tlie goods on them in case of tire.

The nature of my invention and improvement consists in providing a counter, and the shelving behind the same, with rollers or wheels, and also with a contrivancc by which they can be bolted together, and thus moved out of a store in case of lire; also, in a counter-top which is hinged to the body of the counter, and provided with folding hinged ends, for the purpose of aiording, when erected, a receptacle for holding goods which are removed from the higher shelves. My invention further consists in combining, with stationary shelves and my movable or rolling counter and its shelves, certa-in mea-ns whereby the goods on said stationary shelves can be instantly discharged from them into the body of the counter, as will be hereinafter expla-ined.

The following' is a description ofmy improvements:

In the annexed drawings, A designates a counter. which is mounted on caster-wheels c a, and B is the top of this counter, which is connected to the front edge thereof by means of hinges, and is constructed with hinged ends C, which fold under it, as shown in Figs. 4 and 5. D designates the back counter, which is also nounted on wheels or rollers I) l), and

on which shelving E is constructed, so as to be movable with it.

Above the shelving E stationary shelving` F is constructed, in which I apply dischargers F of rectangular form. These dischargers are movable together by means of a rope, j', which is passed through eyes t' i, fixed on the backs of the dischargers, and to the front edges of the partitions which are between them, as shown in Fig. 2.

By pulling on one end of the rope f all the dischargers in a nest can be moved forward, thereby discharging the goods from the shell'.

In the event of a lire breaking out in a store, the front and back counters A D are adjusted together, and the top B and its wings C O are erected as shown in Fig. 1, thereby forming a receptacle for the goods discharged from the stationary shelves.

Vhen the counters are adjusted together they are rmly secured in such position by the following simple contrivance: G G designate two horizontal bars, which are allowed to receive cndwise movements through guides g, fixed to the rear edges ot' uprights applied to the counter A. These bars Gr G are movable in opposite directions by means ot' a connecting-piece, Il, which is pivoted to them, and

centrally secured to a horizontal rod, h, which extends through the front of the counter, and has a hand-wheel, h', secured to its front end, as shown in Fig. 1.

It will be seen from the above description that in ease of lire all the goods in a store, together with the counters and most of the shelving, can be quickly drawn out ot' the store, and saved from destruction and injury.
