Objects of the invention are to facilitate the insertion, adjusting, typing and withdrawal of superimposed worksheets passed around the platen from the introductory side thereof, particularly a wide record-sheet forming an inner sheet, a narrower ledgersheet outward from the record-sheet, and a statement-sheet narrower than the ledgersheet and forming an outer sheet, the record-sheet to remain in the machine while:
difi'erent ledger-sheets and corresponding statement-sheets are successively inserted, typed and withdrawn; Another object of the invention is to produce 'a device of the kind above mentioned, which may be readily installed upon or detached from an ordinary typewriting machine, particularly an Underwood Standard machine, without the ne- 20 cessity of making any substantial changes r in the machine as ordinarily built without the present invention.
'According to the present invention, a wide record-sheet, together with its overlying carbon-sheet, is inserted at the introductory side of the platen over an auxiliary papertable, mounted in spaced relation forwardly of a main rear paper-table, and is pushed around beneath the platen, while the usual- 0 feed-rolls running on the lower side of the platen are released. When the leading ends of the record-sheet andoverlying carbonsheet come up at the front of the platen, they are directed rearwardly, beneath and to the rear of a front collating table, and beneath and to the rear of released paper-fingers, which, after the record-sheet has been adjusted, are made effective to hold the recordsheet, together with its carbon-sheet, against the platen. A ledger-sheet and narrower statement-sheet, together with an interleaved carbon-sheet, may now be inserted over the main ,rear paper-table and brought up at the front of the platen, forwardly of the paper-fingers, and atet-he front of a col just-ed relatively to the record-sheet, and a lating table. As a feature of the invention, the paper-fingers adjacent the end portions of the platen are, provided at the rear thereof with side-edge gages 'for I the record-sheet, and these side-edge gages include floor-portions to support and guide the record-sheet at its margins, these paperfingers'being mounted for sliding movement lengthwise of the platen to vary the position of the side-edge gages, as determined by the width of the record-sheet. As a further feature of the invention, side-edge gages for the ledger-sheet and statement-sheet are carried by the collating table, and are mounted to be adj usted different distances apart, according to the width of the sheets to be gaged thereby, and the collating table, together with its side edge gages, is mounted for sliding movement as a: whole along the platen, in order to position the narrow ledger sheet and narrower statement-sheet in different selected positions sidewise of the wide record-sheet. According to one feature of the invention, the collating table and paperfingers are mounted to be swun as a unit away from the platen, to provide for the passing of the leading end of the recordsheet and its carbon-sheet rearwardlyover the platen, below and to the rear of' the collating table and paper-fingers. According to another feature-of the invention, novel means are provided for varying the pressure of the paper-fingers against the platen.
Accordingto another feature of the invention, the collating table and paper-fingers are carried by a single transverse rod, detachably mounted at its ends upon. the ends of the platen-frame, so that the collating table and paper-fingers may be detached from the machine as a unit. According to another feature of the invention, the main rear paper-table and the auxiliary papertable are connected together and are mounted on the platen-frame to be swung forward 1y as a unit, in order to give access to parts of the machine at the rear of said paperta'ble, such, for example, as the usual tabulator-stops and column-selectors. In carrying out the invention, first there is inserted in the machine a wide recordsheet or proof-sheet 1, together with a narrower overlying carbon-sheet 2, the forward end of which, at 3, is folded rearwardly over the leading edge of the record-sheet 1' to facilitate the insertion of the carbon-sheet 2 along with the record-sheet 1, at the introductory side of a more than ordinarily long revoluble platen 4, j ournaled by means of its axle 5 in the end walls 6 of a substantially usual platen-frame. The record-sheet 1, together with its overlying carbon-sheet 2, is passed downwardly over an auxiliary rear paper-table 7 which is spaced forwardly from a main rear paper-table 8; As the recordsheet 1 and its carbon-sheet 2 are pushed downwardly, a usual curved paper-apron 9 guides these sheets around the platen and up at the front thereof, the usual releasable front and rear feed-rolls 10 and 11 being cast off, as shown in Figure 1,'so as to pro vide a free passage for the record-sheet 1 ing table 12, which is formed in right and left sections or parts 13 and 14, and the leading ends of the record-sheet 1 and carbon-sheet 2 pass rearwardly beneath paper-fingers which extend downwardly at the'front of the platen'above the printing line, and comprise a right-hand paper-finger 15, a left-hand paper-finger 16 and an intermediate paper-finger 17. iThe collating table and paper-fingers are mounted, as hereinafter to be particularly described, to swing away from the platen to provide for the leading ends of the record-sheet 1 and carbon-sheet 2 to pass freely below and to the rear thereof.
The wide recordsheet 1 is gaged at its side edges by side-edge. gages 18 and 19 bent rearwardly from outwardly-extending arms 22 and 23, to the inner ends of which the upper ends of the paper-fingers are detachably secured by means of screws 24, so that the paper-fingers 15 and '16 overlie the side margins of the record-sheet 1, while the side-edge gages 18 and 19 may project rearwardly beyond the side edges of this sheet. The paper-fingers 15 and 16, togetherwith their side-edge gages 18 and .19, are
mounted, in a manner hereinafter to be described, to be slidably adjustable along the length of the platen 4, as determined by the width, and desired sidewise position, of the record-sheet 1, and the intermediate paper-finger 17 is similarly slidably mounted sothat it may be properly positioned for holding the middle of the record-sheet against ,bulging away from the platen. When the record-sheetis adjusted to the typing position, the paper-fingers 15, 16 and be inserted downwardly over the main rear paper-table 8, and at their leading edges brought up at the front of the platen outwardly from the paper-fingers and at the front of the collating table 12, where the ledger-sheet may be gaged at either or both of its side edges by means of right and left side-edge gages 28 and 29 carried respectively by the outer edges of the right and left table- sections 13 and 14, and the narrower statement-sheet 26 may be gaged by the left-hand side-edge gage 29, so that the right-hand margin of'the ledger-sheet 25 projects beyond the right-hand edge of the statement-sheet 26, as shown in Figure 4. By means hereinafter to be described, the side-edge gages 28 and 29 are adjustable to different distances apart, as determined by the width of the ledger-sheet '25, and also the collating table 12, which -is considerably narrower than the length of the platen 1, is slidably adjustable along the length of the platen, by means hereinafter to be described, in order thereby to determine the desired sidewise position of the led er-sheet 25 and statement-sheet 26 relative y to the wide record-sheet 1.
The ledger-sheet 25 is adjusted to typing position relatively to the record-sheet 1, while the latter is held in adjusted position by the paper-fingers, as hereinafter to be particularly described. When the ledgersheet 25 has been adjusted, it may be temporarily held in adjusted position by means of aclamp comprising a' Presserblock or foot 30 carried upon the 1nner end of a bent lever 31, fixed upon a shaft 32, journaled at its .ends in a bracket 33, which is secured to the outer side of the rightliand side-edge gage 28 of the right-hand section 13 of the collating table 12. The presser-block 30 is releasably held in either its effective or ineffective position by a spring 34, connected to the bracket 33 and to an outwardly-projecting arm 35 of the lever 31, the spring 34 exerting its tension atone side of the shaft 32 in the effective position of the resser-block 30, and at the other side'of the shaft in the ineffective position of the presser-block. While the ledger-sheet 25 is held in adjusted or typing position by the presser-block 30 of the clamp, the narrow statement-sheet 26 may be' adjusted relatively to the ledger-sheet 25. which run upon the lower side of the platen, may be made effective, as shown in Figure 2.

and typing upon all of the sheets may pro-i ceed in the usual manner, all of the sheets being line-spaced together, which may be effected by rotating the platen, either by means of finger-wheelsS-SG upon the ends of the platen-axle 5, or by means of the usual Underwood or any suitable line-spacing mechanism, of which a line-space ratchet-wheel 37 is shown upon the platenaxle 5 at the left in Figure 4. The carbonsheet 2 for the wide record-sheet 1 is narrower than the record-sheet, being only of a width suitable for reproducing upon the record-sheet the entries made upon the ledger-sheet, so that the record-sheet 1 may have a comparatively .wide side margin projecting beyond the ledger-sheet 25 and carbon-sheet 2 for receiving additional data, such as the name of the customer, which it is desired to have upon the record-sheet and not upon the statement-sheet nor upon the ledger-sheet, as is shown in Figure 1. This exposed marginal part of the recordsheet lappears in the'drawings at the righthand end of the platen, but, by sliding the collating table 12 along the platen 4, as hereinbefore mentioned, the margin for additional data could appear at the lefthand side of the record-sheet 1, or, if desired, the collating table could have a middle location relatively to the record-sheet, so
as to provide a projecting margin at each side of the record-sheet. It is often desired to have data appear upon the ledger-sheet 25 and record sheet 1 to the exclusion of the statement-sheet 2'6, and the margin of the ledger-sheet 25 which projects beyond the narrower statement-sheet 26 provides for such additional data, as well as providing for the clamping of the ledger,
sheet in adjusted position while the state- ,ment-sheet is adjusted, as hereinbefore described.
'VVhen the desired item or items have been typed upon the statement-sheet 26 and the ledger-sheet 25,- together with the typing of the corresponding additional data upon the exposed margin of the record-sheet 1, the
"feed-rolls 10 and 11 may becast off, and the statement-sheet,
of statementsheets and ledgersheets,
which successively replace each'other in the machine until the record-sheet is used up, after which, of course, a new record-sheet may be inserted in the manner hereinbefore described. In order to provide for the entry of items adjacent the lower or trailing cdge'of the record-sheet 1 and at the same time to prevent the leading edges of the statement-sheet and ledger-sheet from catching against or foulingthe trailing edge of the record-sheet, the carbon-sheet 2 for the record-sheet 1 is considerably longer than the record-sheet 1, so as to extend rearwardly beyond its trailing edge over the rear auxiliary paper-table 7, to form a guide for the leading edges of the ledger-sheet and statement-sheet below the lower edge of the auxiliary paper-table, as shown in Figure 1.
Usually all of the work-sheets are provided with ruled columns which must 'be brought into alignment, and this is provided for by the hereinbefore-mentioned slidable adjustment of all of the side-edge gages, as well as by the slidable adjustment as a whole of the collating table 12. In some cases, blank left-hand side margins are provided on the ledger-sheets and statement-sheet 26, and, in such a case, the left-hand side-edge gage 19 for the recordfinger 16, is set inwardly from or to the right of the left-hand side-edge gage 29 for.

as shown at the left in Figure 4. However,
in case it should be desired to provide a left-hand side margin on the record-sheet 1 to project beyond the left-hand side edges of the ledger-sheet 25 and statement-sheet 26, the left-hand side-edge gage 19 for the record-sheet 1 may be positioned outwardly or to the left of the left-hand side-edge gage 29 for the ledger-sheet 25 and statement-sheet 26, similar, in this respect, to the outward positioning of .the right-hand sideedgegage 18 for the record-sheet 1 in its relation to the right-hand side-edge gage 28 for the ledger-sheet 25 as shown at the right in Figure 4. In order to provide for the convenient, insertion of" the ledgerthereof, to provide a space for t sheets and statement-sheets over the main rear paper-table 8 by the use of either the right hand or the left hand, according to the position of the collating table 12 along the platen, the auxiliary rear paper-table 7, which at its lower part is of the full width or. as shown in the drawings, somewhat wider that the length of the platen, is cutaway at 38 at the right and upper part e right hand to grasp the ledger-sheet and state-- ment-sheet when these sheets are to be inserted around the right-hand end portion of the platen, and is similarly cut away at 39 at the upper part of the left side, to provide a similar space for the left hand to this connection, it should be noted that the main rear paper-table 8 is of a width to extend along the full length of or beyond the ends of the platen, so as to receive a recordsheet which may be ofa width extending the full length of the platen, or which, if
narrower, may occupy any desired position along the length of the platen, corresponding to the adjusted position of the side-edge gages 18 and 19, as shown in Figure 4.
The hereinbefore-mentioned means for mounting the paper-fingers and the collating table on the platen-frame will now be described. All of the paper-fingers and the collating table are mounted upon a rockable shaft or rod extending above the platen and in parallel relation thereto, and comprising a main or middle rod part 40 and right and left end sections 41 and 42 provided at their inner ends with similar sockets 43, in which the ends of the main rod part 40 are fixed by means of screws 44. The gage-carrying arms 22 and 23 of the right-hand and lefthand paper-fingers 15 and 16, respectively, are provided at the upper sides of their inner ends with outturned portions 45 secured sheet 1, together with the left-hand paper-i by means of screws 46 to U-shaped bracketmembers" 47 which are slidably and rotatably mounted on the main rod part 40, and each of which is provided with a projecting finger-piece 48 by which the paper-fingers may be either slid along or rotated upon the main rod part 40. These paper-fingers may be held .in adjusted positions and pressed towards the platen by means of detents 49 carried bythe U-shaped" members 47, and pressed by means of springs 50 into a longitudinal groove 51 in the rod part 40. The intermediate paper-finger 17 is substantially similarly mounted upon the main rod part 40 by means of a U-shaped bracket-member 52 provided with a fingerpiece 53. It will be seen that the paper-fingers 15, 16 and 17, together with the sideedge gages 18 and 19 carried by theend paper-fingers 15 and 16, may be independently rotated upon the rod part 40 to effective or ineffective positions.
The collating table 12 is carried at its opposite sides by apair of U-shaped bracketmembers 54 provided with detents 55 pressed into the groove 51 of the rod part 40 by springs 56. The bracket-members 54 are provided with out-turned ears 57 upon which the ends of a cross-bar 58, upon which the collating table 12 is mounted, are secured .by means of thumb-screws 59 screwing into the ears 57 and engaged by oppositelyturned bayonet-slots 60 in the bar 58, whereby, merely by loosening the thumb-screws 59, the collating table 12 may be detached as a whole when desired, for example, to give free access to parts of the machine at the rear thereof, or for using the machine with the paper-fingers without the collating table should this lie-desired in any particular instance' The right and left sections or parts 13 and 14 of the collating table 12 are secured upon the cross-bar 58 by means of screws 61 passing through transverse slots 62 in the table parts 13 and 14, thereby providing for adjustably varying the width of the collating table as a whole, and for, at the same time, adjustably varying the distance apart of the side-edge gages 28 and 29 carried by the respective table parts 13 and 14. It is to be noted that the table-carrying bar 58 is of considerably less length than the platen, and that corespondingly the collating table 12 is of much less width than the length of the platen, so that the collating table may be positioned at different places along the length of the platen, the U-shaped bracket-members 54' then sliding along the rod part 40. Also, the collating table 12 may be tilted away from the platen independently of the paper-fingers to give access tothe latter, the collating table, however, being normally held in collating position by means of the spring-pressed detents 55. In order to provide space for the hand toreadily grasp the upper ends of the typed ledgersheet and statement-sheet, 25 and 26, the right and left sections or parts 13 and 14, respectively, of the collating table 12 are cut away at 63 and 64, at the top andinner edges thereof. I
It is to be noted that all of the paperfingers and the collating table are mounted upon the middle or main rod part 40. If desired, the outwardly-projecting arms 22 and 23, which carry the side-edge gages 18 and 19 for the record-sheet 1, may be made of greater length than shown in the drawings,"
so' that the side-edge gages may be positioned beyond the sockets 43 at the extreme ends of-the platen, so as'to enable the use of a record-sheet of the full width of the length of the platen. Should it be desired to leave a wide margin at the left side instead of at the right side of the record-sheet 1, the
collating table 12, may. moved along the platen to the right-hand end portion thereof. When this is done, the left-hand gage-carrying paper-finger 1-6 may be placed upon the the rod part 40to the left, or outwardly from the left-hand U-slfaped bracket-member 54, similarly in this respect to the right-hand gage-carrying paper-finger 15(in its relation to the right-hand bracket-member 54. Also, in this case, if found desirable, the right-hand gage-carrying paper-finger 15 may be placed to the left or inwardly from'the right-hand bracket-member 54, similarly in this respectto the left-hand aper-finger 16 in "its relation to. the leftand bracket-member 54,

The detents 66 cooperate With the paper-finger detents 49 to press the paper-fingers towards the platen,
and also co-operate with the collating-tabledetents 55 for holding the collating table 12 at the collating position. The outer end of the left-hand rod section 42 has fixed thereon a finger-piece 68, by means of which all of the rod parts 40, 41 and '42 may be rocked in a counter-clockwise direction, as viewed in Figure 1, for concomitantly tilting the collating table 12 rearwardly away from a the platen and raising the paper-fingers ,away from "the platen, to provide for the insertion of the record-sheet 1, as hereinbefore described, after which the finger-piece is moved forwardly to restore the collating table 12 to its collating position and concomitantly to return the paper-fingers to their effective positions as shown in the drawings. v TheU-shaped bearing-brackets 65 for the terminal rod parts 41 and 42 are mounted upon the platen-frame ends 6 by means of shouldered thumb-screws 69 passing through the bearing-brackets 65 and through baseblocks 70, and at their lower ends threaded into nuts 71 contained in undercut slots 72, which extend fore and aft in strips or plates 73, which aresecured by means of screws 74 upon the tops of the platen-frame ends 6., By loosening the thumb-screws 69, the rod-carrying bearing-brackets 65. may be moved to different positions forwardly or backwardly on the platen-frame and set or fixed atthe desired position by again tightening the thumb-screws 65, thereby providing for varying the tension or pressure of the paper-fingers against the platen. A small paper-holding roll 75 is provided at the upper part of each, of the paper-fingers, which, in order not to interfere with 'the above-described adjusting forwardly or backwardly of the paper-fingers, is" not mounted directly upon the paper-finger, but is journaledupon a separate comparatively thin and easily yieldable leaf-spring 76, which, at its upper end, may be held'by the screws 24' which hold the paper-finger, as shown most clearly in Figure 1. The rolls 75 may project beyond the paper-fingers towards the platen through suitable openings provided in the paper-fingers. The screws 44, which hold the ends of the main or mid dle rod part 40 in the sockets 43, provide for therotative adjustment of the main rod part 40 inthe sockets for correctly positioning the collating I table 12 at the proper angle. This rotative adjustment of the main rod part 40 also provides additional means for adjusting the pressure of the paper-fingers against the platen, so that, by means of the two adjustments, one being the rotative adjustment of the rod part 40 and the other being the fore-and-aft adjustment of this rod part-by means of the thumbscrews 69, suitable adjustments of both the collating. table and the paper-fingers may be readily obtained. Merely by removing the thumb-screws 69, the collating tabfie 12 and the paper-fingers 15, 16 and 17 may be detached from the machine as a unit.

- paper-tables 7 and 8 are mounted to be swung forwardly upon the platen-frame. The lower part of the main rear paper-table 8 passes downwardly above the upper part of a substantiallyusual lower rear paper-table 79, forming part of the platen-frame, and the lower part of which is continued below the lower end of the main rear papertable 8, forming therewith a continuous paper-guiding surface, and the paper-apron 9 is shown as forming a forwar continuation of the lower end of the usual rear papertable 79. The lower end of the main rear paper-table 8 is pivoted upon the lower rear paper-table 79 by means of a rod 80 passing through loops 81 at the back of the lower paper-table 79 and is engaged by. rearwardly-turned fingers 82 on the lower end of the main paper-table 8, and which pass through openings 83 provided in the usual or lower paper-table 79. 4
The auxiliary rear paper-table 7' is detachably mounted upon the main rear paper-table 8 by means of bracket-members 84 bent rearwardly and upwardly from the ends thereof, and in their upwardly-inclined ends provided with slots 85 to receive bolts 86, which pass through-the side margins of the main rear paper-table 8, whereby; the auxiliary paper-table 7 is detachably mounted upon the main rear paper-table 8.
The two forwardly-swingable rear papertables 7 and 8 may be releasably held at their rear paper-guiding positions by means of rearwardly and upwardly extending supporting brackets 87, which, at their lower and forward ends, overlie the rear ends of g screws 89 and their possible loss, preferably the modified construction shown in Figure 4 is employed. In this latter construction, a swingable-clamp or button 91 is pivoted upon the upper end portion of the supporting bracket 87 and is held in place thereon by means of a clamp-screw 92, which may be tightened for clam-ping the adjacent margin of the main rear paper-table .8 between the inwardly-turned end the bracket-member 87 at the back and the clamp-member or button 91 at the front, so that merely by loosening the clamp-screw ,92, the clamfp button 91 may be rotated to a position 0 disengagement from the main rear paper-table 8, so as to permit it to be swung freely forward together with the auxiliary rear paper-table 7 carried thereby, as hereinbefore described.
Means, in addition to the bracket-members 84:, are provided below these bracketmembers for bracing and s'teadying the lower p'art of the auxiliary paper-table 7, whereby it may be firmly held in place so as to keep open the-throat formed between its lower edge and the platen for the passage of the record-sheet'l and its carbonsheet 2, and also likewise to keep open the throat formed between the lower edge of the auxiliary paper-table 7 and the lower part of the lower rear paper-table 79, to permit free passage of the ledger-sheet 25 and statement-sheet, 26, together with the interleaved carbon-sheet 27. For this purpose, forwardly-projecting lugs 93 have their rear ends turned inwardly at the rear of the auxiliary paper-table 7 at a point below the bracket-members-84, and are secured to the auxiliary paper-table '7 by means of screws 94. The forward'ends of the lugs 93 are provided in their lower edges with T-slots95, which engage over shouldered thumb-screws or clamping screws 96, the threaded ends of which pass outwardly through. the T-slots and are In order to avoid removal of the thumbpart 88 ot L screwed into upstanding brackets 97 turned upwardly from the inner edges of base platesor strips 98, which lie uponthe tops 'of the platen-frame ends 6 beneath the slotthe rear paper-tables 7 and 8 are to be swung'forwardly, the thumb-screws 96 are merely loosened sufficiently so that the upper ends of the T-slots 95 may move forwardly on the screws. In 'case the auxiliary rear paper-table 7 is to be detached, the T-slots 95 provide for the free lifting away of the table when the thumb-screws 96 are loosened. It will now be clear that the present invention may be readily embodied in a Standard Underwood typewriting machine, so as to adapt it for doing the class of work hereinbefore described.
Variations m'ay be resorted to within the scope ofthe invention, and portions at the improvements may be used without others.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. In a typewriting machine, the combination with a revoluble platen, of. a papertable at the introductory side thereof for guilding work-sheets to 'the platen, an auxiliary paper-table for guiding an inner work-sheet to the platen clear of the firstmentioned paper-table, supporting brackets extending rearwardly from the auxiliary paper-table, means detachably connecting the supporting brackets rigidly to the firstmentioned paper-table, the two paper-tables being swingable together as a unit about a common. center to give access to mecha- .nism behind them, and means for detaining each of the paper-tables in normal operative position, the arrangement being such that each steadies and braces the other.
2. In a front-strike ftypewriting machine, in combination with a revoluble platen and a platen-frame therefor, a rear'paper-table for guiding outer work-sheets to the platen, means for mounting the rear paper-table on the platen-frame to swing forwardly to give access to parts of the machine at the rear of said pa er-table, an auxiliary paper-table for guiding an inner work-sheetto the platen, brackets rigidly supporting the auxiliary paper-table rom the rear paper-table in fixed relation-thereto, to swing forwardly therewith as a unit, and releasable means for holding said paper-tables at their rear or sheet-guiding posltions. I

In a front-strike typewriting machine, in combination with a revoluble platenL-and a platen-frame therefor having ends, a rear paper-table on the'platen-frame for guiding outer work-sheetsrto the platen, an auxiliary paper-table spaced forwardly from the rear paper-table for guiding an inner work-sheet to the platen, means for detachably mounting the auxiliary paper-table at correspondmg po nts on 1ts side margins upon theside margins of the rear paper-table, and means for detachably mounting the auxiliary-paer-tableat other corresponding points on its side margins upon the ends of the platen,- frame, whereby the auxiliary paper-table may be detached from the machine.

In a front-strike typewriting machine, incombination with a revoluble platen and a platen-frame thereforhaving ends, paperfingers extending downwardly at the front of the platen, a rod carrying said paperfingers and extending parallel with the platen, and mounts for the ends of said rod adjustable forwardly or backwardly upon the ends of the platen-frame for varying the pressure of pl'aten. v

In a front-strike typewrit-ing machine, in combination with a revoluble platen and a platen-frame therefor having ends, paperfingers extending downwardly at the front of the platen, a rod carrying said paperfingers and extending parallel" with the platen, mounts for the ends of said rod ad-- j ustableforwardly or backwardly upon the ends of the platen-frame for varying the pressure ,of the paper-fingers upon the platen, and paper-holding rolls resiliently mounted on the paper-fingers to yield selectively thereto to provide for said ad j ustment of the paper-fingers.

In a front-strike typewriting machine, in combination, a revoluble platen and a platen-frame therefor having ends, paper- 'ngers extending downwardly at the front of the platen, a rod carrying said paperfingers and extending parallel with the platen, mounts for the ends of'sziid rod ad- ]ustable forwardly and backwardly upon the ends of the platen-frame for varying the pressure of the aper-fingers upon the platen, a collating ta le mounted upon said rod at thedelivery side of the platen, and
the paper-fingers upon the "means to effect rotative adjustment of said rod to vary'the ahgular position of the collating tableand also providing further means for varying the pressure of the paper-fingers upon the platen.
7. Ina front-strike typewriting machine, i
in combination with a revoluble'platen and a late'n-frame therefor, a wide rear paperta le for guiding narrow outer work-sheets to the platen at difi'erent selected'places along the width of the paper-table and the introductory side of the platen, a-narrow front paper-table above the platen at the delivery side thereof and spaced therefrom for the reception of said narrow outer work-sheets, means for mounting said front paper-table on the platen-frame to be slidably adjustable along the platen, so as to the top thereof, to provide spacesenabling said narrow worksheets to be, grasped and inserted by either theright or the left hand dependent upon the position of adjustment of said narrow front paper-table along/the length of the platen.
8. In a front-strike typewriting machine,
7 in combination with a revoluble platen and a platen-frame therefor having ends, a rod extending along the top of the platen parallel therewith and having a longitudinal groove therein, paper-fingers at the front of the platen above the printing line, a mount for each paper-finger slidable on said rod for adjusting the paper-finger along the platen, and rotatable on said rod to enable the paper-finger to be rockedupon the rod between effective and ineffective positions, said mount including a springpressed detent engageable in said groove forcontrolling the normal position of the paper-finger relativeto the rod and for yieldingly pressing the paper-finger towards the platen, a frontcollating table above the platen and paper-fingers, mounts for the collating table slidable on said rod to enable the collating table to be moved along the platen, and rotatable on said rod to enable the collating table to be tilted away from the platen, said mounts for the collating table including spring-pressed detents engageable in said groovetfor holding the collating table at its collating position" adjacent the platen and the paper-fingers, rod supports rotatably /mcunted upon the ends of the platen-frame, said supports including detent-devices for controlling the normal rotative, positions thereof, means for making the rod fast to the supports in various angular relations thereto. to adjust the normal relation'of the fingers and table to the platen and a finger-piece for rocking the supports and said rod to tilt the collating table and the paper fingers as a unit away from the platen.

In a typewriting machiiie, the com bination with a' revoluble platen, of paperbination with a revoluble platen, of a paper-table at the front thereof, a papertable support adjustable bodily over the .platen to adjust the paper-table forwardly and rearwardly, and means for angularly adjusting the table support to procure the desired relation of the paper-table to theplaten corresponding to the bodily adjustment thereof.
11. In a typewriting machine, a revoluble platen, a paper-table at the front thereof, a rod on which the paper-table is rotatably mounted, means determining a normal relation of the table to the rod, a rotatable support on which the rod is fixedly mounted,
means controlling the normal rotative position of the support, and means for adjustingthe rod relatively to its support to change the normal position of the papertable obtained with the support in its normal position. 1
12. In a typewriting machine, a revoluble platen, a paper-table at the delivery side thereof, and means for adjusting the papertable from side to side of the platen, bodily in a front and rear direction over the'iplaten, and angularly the platen.
13. In a typewriting machine, the combination with a revoluble platen, of means for collating two outside sheets with referabout an axis parallel to ence to each other and to anunderlying inside sheet, comprising feed-rolls acting exclusively on the underlying inside sheet at the front of the platen, adjustable side guides for saidinside sheet at the front of the platen, a collating table between said side guides having side-edge gauges for the wider of the outside sheets, and a clamp on said collating table for detaining the wider of the outside sheets stationary 1n adjusted position during relative adjustment of the narrower outside sheet thereover.
