DOUBLE VANITY CASE.

Case, of which the following is a full, clear,
and exact description.
This invention relates to containers and has particular reference to an improvement in vanity cases constituting containers for cosmetics.
One of the: outstanding objects of the present invention is to provide a vanity case which serves 'asa container for a rouge compact and as a sifter receptacle for loose powder.
More specifically the invention comprehends in a vanity case of the character set forth a common rotary interior closure member constituting means for covering and con cealing the rouge compact compartment, a sifter means for the loose powder compartment which is shiftable to positions for fully uncovering the rouge compartment or the loose powder filling compartment.
The invention. furthermore contemplates a vanity case ofthe character set forth which is extremely simple inits construction, inexpensive to, manufacture and produce, and whiohis highly efficient in its purpose.
With the above recited and other objects in view, the invention resides in the novel construction set forth in the following specification, particularly pointed out in the appended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings; it being understood that the right is reserved to embodiments other thanthose actually illustrated hereinto the full extent indicated" by the general meaning of the termsin' which theclaims are expressed.

Fig. 5 is a similar view of the filler element which defines with the body of the case loose powder compartment and the rouge compact compartment.
Referring to the drawings by characters of" reference, 10 designates the body of thevanlty case having a telescopiccover 11 hinged thereto as at 12 and'carrying the usual mirror 13. In order to render the bodycapable of use as a container for loose powder and" for a compact, an inverted cup-shaped filler member 14'1s'employed whlch consists of a top wall 15 having an. elliptical eccentric opening 16 provided with a depending flange 17. The top wall 15 is furtherprovided with a marginal depending flange 18 and said top wall is formed with an eccentric opening 19 constitutinea combined filling and discharge opening' for the loose powder compartment. When placed within the body 10 of'th'e receptacle, the flanged opening 16 defines together with the bottom wall 20 of the body 10 a compact compartment 21 for a rouge compact or the like. The remainder of the filler member 14+ defines between the flanges 17 an'd 18 the upperwall 15 and the bottom wall 20 a compartment 22 for loose powder.
In order to provide means for selectively closing the opening 19 or the rouge compartment 21 and to provide a sifter means for dispensing the: powder from the loose powder compartment, an inner closure member or disk 23 is employed which is attached to the upper wall 15 for rotation by means of a rivet 24 passing concentrically. through the closure member 23 and the wall" 15. The closure member is provided with an eccentric opening 25 conforming in size and shape to the flanged opening 16 in the inverted cup-shaped filler member14. The said opening 25 communicates with a cutaway portion 26 in the side of the closure member 23 and the end of the material defining the ends of the cutaway portion 26 are turned'up to provide manipulatinglugs 27 for facilitating the rotation of the closure member 23. The closure member 23 is further provided with a series of discharge sifter openings 28 spaced from the opening 25 and located at a point to register with theopening 19 when the closure member 23 is properly. shifted. The opening 25in the closure 23 is designed to respectively register with the compact compartment 21 whereby access may be gained thereto, or with the filling opening 19 to permit of the introduction of the loose powder to the loose powder compartment 22. \Vh'en the discharge sitter openings 28 are in registry with the opening 19,.it will be noted that the closure member 23 closes and conceals the rouge compartment. The closure member 23 may be shifted to an'intermediate position in which the opening 25 and the sitter openings 28 are both out of registry with either the compact compartment or the filling opening 19. A puff or applicator P is designed to be arranged in the compact compartment in superposed relation to the compact and space is afforded for a pufi' or applicator R for the powder between the inner closure member 23 and the mirror.
I claim:
I. In a vanity case constituting a con tainer for a plurality of cosmetics, a filler member for the body of the case defining an open compact compartment and a closed loose powder compartment ha-vmgan opening constituting respectively a discharge and filling port, and a rotary closure member carried by the filler element and having circumferentially spaced openings therein for selective registration with the compact compartment and with the combined filling and discharge port for the loose powder compartment.
2. In a vanity case constituting a container for a plurality of cosmetics, a filler member for the body of the case defining an open compact compartment and a closed loose powder compartment having an opening constituting respectively a discharge and filling port,- and a rotary closure member carried by the filler element and having circumferentially spaced openings therein for selective registration with the compact compartment and with the combined filling rand discharge port for the loose powder compartment, said closure member serving to close the compact compartment-when the combined filling and discharge port is open and'v1ce versa.

Ina vanity case constituting a container, for a plurality of cosmetics, a filler member for the body of the case defining an open compact compartment and a closed loose powder compartment having an opening constituting respectively a discharge and filling port, a rotary closure member carried by the filler element for selective registration with the compact compartment orwith the combined filling and discl'iarge port for the loose powder compartment, said closure member serving to close the compact compartment when the combined filling and discharge port is open. and vice versa, said closure member having a circumferentially spaced set of perforated sitter openings adapted to be brought into registry with the combined filling and discharge port for sifting the contents of the loose powder compartment therethrough.
4. In a vanity case constituting a container for a plurality of cosmetics, a filler member for the body of the case defining an open compact compartment and a closed loose powder compartment having an opening constituting respectively a discharge and filling port, a rotary closure member carried by the filler element for selective registration with the compact compartment or with the combined filling and discharge port for the loose powder compaitment, said closure member serving to close the compact compartment when the combined filling and discharge port is open and vice versa, said closure member having a circumferentially spaced set of perforated sitter openings adapted to be brought into registry with the combined filling and discharge port for sifting the contents of the loose powder compartment therethrongh, said closure member serving to cover the compact compartment when the perforated sitter portion is in registry with the combined discharge and filling opening.
5. In a vanity case. a filler member defining in the body of the case, an open compact compart-n'lcnt and a closed loose powder compartment having a combined discharge and filling opening, a common rotary closure member for said compartments having an eccentric opening adapted to be shifted selectively into registry with the open compact compartment for gaining access thereto and into registry with the combined filling and discharge opening to introduce the powder to the loose powder compartment, and an eccentric perforated sifter portion of said closure member circumferentially spaced from the opening therein and sbittable into registry with the combined filling and discharge opening of the loose powder compartment for sifting the contents therefrom.

In a vanity case, a filler member defining in the body of the case. an open oompact compartment and a closed loose powder compartment having a combined discharge and filling opening. a common rotary closure member for said compartments having an eccentric opening adapted to be shifted selectively into registry with the open compact compartment for gaining access thereto and into registry with the combined filling and discharge opening to introduce the powder to the loose powder compartment, and an eccentric perforated sifter portion of said closure member circumferentially spaced from the opening therein and shiftcompartment for sitting the contents there from, said closure member serving to close the compact compartment when the sitter openings are in registry with the loose powder compartment discharged port and serving to close the sitter openings when the compact compartment is exposed.

In a vanity case comprising a receptacle defining compartment for the reception of a compact having an open upper end and a loose powder compartment having a filling opening in its upper wall, a rotary closure member mounted over said compartments having an opening for selective registry with the filling opening and the open end of the compact c(mipartment and a perforated sifter portion of said rotary member for registry with the filling opening to discharge therefrom the contents of the loose powder compartment.

A vanity case comprising a body having an open upper end, a filler member arranged in the body including an upper wall having a depending marginal flange resting upon the closed bottom wall of the body, said upper wall having a pair of circumferentially spaced eccentric openings, at depending marginal flange from one of said openings resting on the bot-tom wall of the body and providing a compact compartment open at its upper end, the other eccentric opening providing a combined filling and discharge port for the loose powder compartment which is defined between the depending flanges, the upper wall of the filling memher and the bottom wall of the body, a cover member rotatably mounted upon the upper wall of the filler member, said cover member having an eccentric opening adapted to be selectively shifted into registry with the compact compartment for gaining access thereto and into registry with the combined discharge and filling opening for introducing the contents to the loose powder compartment, an eccentric perforated Sifter portion of the cover member circumferentially spaced from the eccentric opening and adapted upon shifting of the cove-r member to be brought into registry with the combined discharge and filling opening to sift therethrough the contents of the loose pow der compartment.

A vanity case con'rprisiing a body having an open upper end, a filler member arranged in' the body including an upper wall having a depending marginal flange resting upon the closed bottom wall of the body, said upper wall having a pair of circumferentially spaced eccentric openings, a depending marginal flange from one of said openings resting on the bottom wall of the body and providing a compact compartment open at its upper end, the other eccentric opening providing a combined filling and dis charge port for the loose powder compartment which is defined between the depending flanges, the upper wall of the filling member and the bottom wall of the body, a cover member rotatably mounted upon the upper wall of the filler member, said cover member having an eccentric opening adapted to be selectively shifted into registry with the compact compartment for gaining access thereto and into registry with the combined discharge and filling opening for introducing the contents to the loose powder co-1n partment, an eccentric perforated sifter portion of the cover member circumferentially spaced from the eccentric opening and adapted upon shifting of the cover member to be brought into registry with the combined discharge and filling opening to sift therethrough the contents of the loose powder compartment, said cover member being shift-able to an intermediate position to dlSI pose the opening and perforated portion out of alignment with the compact compartment and combined filler and discharge port.
