Vi/ESTON, OF DAYTON, ()HIO.
DISPLAY-RACK ATTACK-115E151 Application filed December 8.
To 77 30/10/21. if'mfz z concern llc it known that I. EDWARD B. ti izs'roiv, a citizen of the United States, and a resi dent of Dayton, in the county of Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-llack Attachn'ients, of? which the folowing is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specilicatiou.
in recent years a great demand has arisen for display racks for the display of cartons and boxes for crackers, cakes and the like, in which provision is made for the display of the cartons either upright or at an angle, so that the cartons may be supported with their open glass-covered lids tilted in forward position. These cartons are not always of the same size, and where provision is made to bring the largest size of the boxes inv front alignn'ient, no provision has been made for boxes or cartons of so aller size when they must be mounted on i 2 same shelf with full sized cartons.
t is extremely desirable and adds greatly to the neatness and attractiveness of the display t". t all the boxes shall have the same froir alignment, and my invention consists of that certain attachment and construction for monnting same to attain the above, desirable result.
The invention is particularly designed for use with metallic frame racks of the kind for example illustrated in my Patent No. 1328,7230, dated September 12, 1922, in which the rear support for the boxes comprises an open metallic frame. In this patent provision is made for swinging the entire rear frame forward to accommodate smaller sized boxes, but in this construction for any one shelf all of the cartons must be of the same size.
it is to obviate this difficulty and to provide for all the standard mixed sizes of cartons for any one or more shelves that my invention is directed.
it consists of that novel construction and arrangement to be hereinafter particularly pointed out and claimed, whereby this object is attained.
In the drawings,
Figure l is a perspective view of my attachment illustrated in position on one end of a metallic display shelf.
1922, Serial No. 605,716.
an integral strip of bent preferably at right angles to form a front portion 1 and ".de supports 2, 2. These side supports are formed with slots 0, 3, at the outer ends and a plurality of L-shaped notches at, l, each notch of each pair being spaced at the same distance from the ends. The end slots are of a width to receive the back bar 5 of the shelf 6 and of sufficient depth'to efiectua ly embrace the back bar. The. open portions of the L-shaped notches are of sufficient width to allow the back bar to enter the notch when the attachmentis tipped and the slot portion is of suflicient depth to hold the attachment in place on the bar.
The distance from the base of the several slots to the front portion 1 is gauged to linst the attachment for the various sizes ()1 cartons so that by resting on the front portion, the boxes shall have their display port ons all in alignment.
.l'ith this simple and effective device the user need have no concern as to sizes of cartons. With the smallest size the attachment is mounted on the hack bar of the shelf in the end slots, and with intermediate sizes the attachment is mounted in the pair of .-shaped notches required to bring the supporting front of the attachment in posi tion to maintain proper alignment for the display carton. Thus provision is made for filling the display shelf with properly aligned cartons irrespective of the order in which they may come.
As many sets of retaining slots for the attachment are provided as may be needed for the variation in standard sizes, and the user merely keeps on hand such number of attachments as may be required. It is, of course, immaterial whether the L-shaped notches open upwardly or downwardly, and, taerefore, the attachment is fool-proof, and can be applied by anyone, no matter how ignorant he may be.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a display rack, the combination with an open metallic shelf, of an attachment therefor, comprising an integral strip of metal made up of side arms and a front connecting portion, with the side arms slotted at the ends 111 allgnment i'or removably mounting same on the rear supporting member to change the point of support for the goods to be displayed on the shelf.
2. In a display rack, the combination with an open metallic shelf, of an attachment therefor, comprising an integral strip of metal made up of side arms and a front connecting portion, with the side arms pro- 10 support for the goods to be displayed on 15 the shelf for a plurality of positions.
EDWARD B. WESTON.
