LLEWELLYN R. JONES, F BRIGHTMOOR, MICHIGAN.
NECKTIE HOLDER.
Application led April 17, 1924. Serial No. 707,302.
To all `1li/10m t 71mg/ concern:
Be it known that LLi:\vi-:Li.YN R. JONES. a subject of the King of England. residing at Brightmoor, in the county of *Wayne and State of .liiichig-an. has invented new and useful Improvements in Necktie Holders, of which the following is a specification.
rThe object in view is to provide a device suitable for use as a form upon which a four-in-hand or similar necktie .may be tied or knotted to present the desired display and having means for engagement with the collar and the collar button or stud, more particulztrly when the collar is of the turn over or turn down type to support the tie in proper position, said holder being of such a construction as to adapt it to be disconnected from the collar button and collar without removing7 loosening or dsarranging the tie, and of being subsequently replaced rapidly under the same conditions; and with this object in view the invention consists in a construction and combination of parts nof which a preferred embodiment is shown in j the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure l is a view of a tie holder embodying the invention having' arranged thereon a tie knotted in condition for use and applied in the operative position to a collar. Y
:so Figure 2 is a similar view showing the holder and tie disconnected from the collar` Figure B is a similar view showing the tie loosened to expose the intermediate or central portion of the. holder.
Figure 4 is a side View of the holder showing the tie in place thereon.
Figure 5 is a view of the holder disconnected from the tie.
The holder consists essentially of a button plate l0 provided with a key hole slot 1l suitable for engagement with the collar button or stud and having at its upper end laterally projecting curved collar engaging wings l2 adapted to be inserted between the folds of a collar close to the fold line, and
pivotally mounted in a clip 13 projecting forwardly Vfrom the plate is a spring arm let adapted to bear against the head or outer end of the collar button or stud indicated at l5 for maintaining the holder in proper relation with the button. said tongue being deflected forwardly at its free end to form an ear 16 and being extended at its pivotal end beyond the pivot 17 to form a finger 18 adapted to bear against the surface of the plate l() to hold the arm in either its normal or inoperative position, so that when the plate is being engaged with the button the free end of the tongue may be sprung outward as shown in dotted lines in Figure 4 and may then be forced rearwardly into Contact with the button as shown in full lines in said figure to be concealed by the bow or knot 19 of the tie which is looped over the wings l2 as indicated in Figure 3 or in any preferred manner to suit the appearance of tie desired by the wearer.
lhen the tie is drawn taut as indicated in Figures l and 2 the looped or knotted portion thereof lies in front of the holder in the space between the front edges of the collar and is in turn held in proper position with relation to the collar.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new and useful is A necktie holder having a collar button or stud engaging' plate provided with lateral wings for engagement with the fold of a turn over collar, said wings forming means for engagement by the loop or knot of the tie. and a spring tongue carried by the plate for terminal engagement with the forward end of the button or stud engaged by the plate, said tongue being pivotally mounted upon the plate and being provided with means for yieldingly holding the same in its operative and inoperative positions.
In testimony whereof he aflixes his signature.
LLEELLYN Il. JONES.
