Description

. V. OCKFEN CROCHET HOLDER Filed Sept. 11, 1925 INVENTOR ME)? @KFf/V M ATTORNEY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
VERA OCKIEEN, OF SPANAWAY, WASHINGTON.
CROCHET HOLDER.
Application filed September 11, 1923. Serial No. 662,059.
To all whom it may concern:
- Be it known that I, VERA OCKFEN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Spanaway, Pierce County, Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Crochet Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to boxes for holding thread, crochet cotton, yarn, and the like, and has for its principal object to provide a box of that character embodying bearing sockets in its opposite side walls wherein the ends of a spool mounting shaft may be removably and revolubly held so that the thread, or yarn, can be unwound from a spool and drawn outwardly through a hole in the box cover.
Other objects reside in the novel features of construction for holding the spool mounting shaft and whereby a spool may be properly 'held thereon.
In accomplishing these and other objects of the invention, I have provided the improved details of construction, the preferred forms of which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of a thread holder embodying the present invention.
Figure 2 is a central, vertical section of the same.
Figure 3 is a horizontal section the holder.
Referring more in detail to the drawin s 1 designates what may be a cylindrical, metal box with a closed bottom wall 2 and a removable cover 3 fitted over its up er end; the cover being provided centrally with an opening 4 through which thread, or yarn may be withdrawn from the box.
Formed vertically in opposite side walls of the box are outwardly pressed grooves 6 and 7 that extend from the upper edge of the box to points about half way of its height, and at their lower ends they lead into sockets 8-9 Within which the opposite end points 11-12 of a spool mounting shaft 13 are revolubly and removably held.
through soiled.
Fitted onto the shaft 13 is .a conically tapered flexible sleeve 14 over which a spool ll) on which thread or yarn 16 is wound, is removably mounted. From the spool the strand 17 of thread or yarn is extended through the opening 4 in the cover, andas it is drawn out, the spool will revolve to permit unwinding.
When the thread or yarn is exhausted, the cover 3 can be removed from the box, the shaft 13 unseated and removed, the old spool slipped from the shaft 13, a new one put in its place and the shaft returned to 60 the box.
Such a device can be made in desirable sizes, and thread or yarn therein will be-kept free from dirt or from being otherwise Having thus described my invention, what- I claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is:
1. A device of the class described, comprising a container fitted with a removable cover aving a perforation therein, channels leading downwardly from the upper edges atopposite sides of the container and terminating in sockets at their lower ends, and a spool mounting shaft with tapered ends revolubly fitted in said sockets and adapted to be removed from the container through said channels.
2. A device of the class described comprising a container fitted with a removable cover having a central perforation, channels leading downwardly from the upper edge at opposite sides of the container and terminating in sockets at their lower ends, a shaft having its opposite ends revolubly and removably held in said sockets and adapted to be fitted from the container through said channels and a conically tapered, flexible spool mounting sleeve on said shaft.
Signed at Takoma, Pierce County, Washington, this 11th day of July, 1923.
Mas. VERA OOKFEN.
