l To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM N. WEIN- MAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Columbus, in the countyot1 Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pumps, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention is directed to improvements in pumps, and more particularly to that type used inmines.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a gear operated pump so constructed that the operating gears and the'associated driving connections'will be constantly oiled.
A further object ofthe invention is to provide a pump so constructed that the pump pistonfcan be easily and quickly removed from its cylinder without the necessity of disassemblingthe piston driving mechanism.
iVith these and other objects in view, as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in the novel features o construction, combinations of' elements and arrangements 'of parts, as hereinafter to be fully described and pointed out in the appended claim.

Referring to the drawing 1 designates a base, and carried thereby is a gear casing 2, the rear `wall 3 of which has supported thereon a stub shaft 4 andto which is .fixed the gear 5. .l f
The gear 5 carries an eccentrically lnountcd pin'6 upon which is loosely mounted a block 7, the purpose of which will appear later. Associated with the gear 5 is a yoke complementary spaced sections 9 and 10 which are provided with horizontal guide rods 11 and 12, respectively, the latter being slidably engaged in the tubular head 13 carried by the rear end of the gear casing 2.y The block 7 is slidable in the space-14 provided between the sections '9 and 12, and has its sides in intimate contact with theconfronting-faces of the respective sections.
The rod 11 is slidable in the lnner side of the casing 2, and threaded inthe outer end thereof, as at 15, is the inner end of the piston rod 16 of the pump piston head 17, said piston being reciprocable v1n the pump cylinder 18. Ihe rod 16 is slidable in the stuiiing box l19 whlch-is carried by the plate '20, said plate constituting ahead -forthe rear end of said cylinder. This plate is clamped between the cylinder end and the forward circular end 21 of thev framev 22, sald frame being an integral part of the gear casing 2, and has an open side' 23 so that the l threaded connection between the rods 11 and 16 1s readily accessible, and owin to this,
the piston rod 16 can be readily dlsengaged from the rod 11 without disturbing the yoke and its driving mechanism, and when it is' desired to remove thevpist'on head 17 from `its cylinder. '. A shaft 27 1s carried by the casing 2 and has fixed to its inner end a pinion 28 which meshes with the gear l5, said shaft having.
fixed to its outer end ay gear 29, and meshing v with this gear is a'pinion 30 which is driven in any suitable manner, as for instance by` an electric motor.
vThe gear 29 and associated pinion 30 are enclose by a casing 31 to protect the same from moisture and grit.
It will be apparent that when tl1e.`gear 5a is rotated that the blocks'7 will be driven i in a circular direction, and will consequently cause the yoke 8 to reciprocate together with the rod 11 and rod 16, thus imparting to the piston head 17 the necessary pumping action.
Pumps of this character are used for pumping Water from mines and this water ofttimes contains alkali which is injurious to the metallic parts. It will be observed that the iston rod 16 which travels in the stuifmg liox 19 has engaged thereon the hub 32 of the disk 33, saidr disk having a marginal skirt v formed therewith. It sometimes occurs that Water will leak through the stufting box 19 and splashes'-upon the horizontal guide rod 11 and would tend to seep into the casing 2, but owing to presence of the Vdisk 33 any possibility of water seeping into this casing 1s positively eliminated.
