and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Loom-Stopping Devices, of which the foi lowing is'a specification.
My invention relates to loom stoppingdevices which are particularly adapted for use in stopping a loom when shuttles occupy advertence of the'weaver, a shuttle has been placed in each of the boxes aligned with a race. These'devices wereunsatisfactory for various reasons such as not being :sufiiciently sensitive to quickly respond and stop the loom, not beimg reliable for positive operation,.not being automatic in resetting themselves after stopping the loom, not being adjustable to take up wear so as to maintain an accurate setting at all times,,an d being too complicated, and .not standing the strains andwear fora reasonable length of time V f r 7 The objects of my. invention are to provide a loom stopping device which will avoid the above objections and positively stop the loom when, through inadvertence, a shuttle occupies each box aligned with the race; to provide a device which :is accurate and, positive in its operation at all times,- is sensitive to quickly respond and stop the loom; is adjustable to an accurate setting at all times on any type of 100111; is auto} niatic to 're-set' itself after stopping the loom and which is simple and durable in construction. The trip is preferably made fro-in a strip of metal and has its upper end bent or folded downward to provide a rounded or tapered part 22 and ,a shoulder 23. A spring 24, coiled about :a :pin 25 011 trip1'9, has its ends 26 extending through lugs 2 7 on bracket 21. This spring 24 tends. to move trip downward when it is released by mechanism now to be described. A bracket 39, provided with vertical slots- 40, is adj ustably mounted on breast beam 11 by lag bolts 41 passing through the slots and screwed into the breast beam. A non-slidable plate 42, provided with a boss 43, is
adjustably mounted for swinging movement on bracket 39 by a bolt 44 which passes through the boss and bracket and has its headset in a vcounter-bore 45 within the boss. The shank 46 of the bolt is angular at 47 and fits within an angular opening 48 in boss 43 to prevent turning of the bolt 52 is slid-ably mounted on plate 42 preferably by providing slots 53 in plate 52 for.

A slotted member 60 is adjustably connected to the rear end 61 of plate 52; The loom stopping mechanism is connected to this slotted member by an arm 62 fixed 011 knock-off shaft 12 and provided with a pin '63 which slides in slot 64 of the slotted member. Thus slidable plate 52 is directly connected with the. loom stopping mechanism and moved along withit when it is actuated to start or stop the loom while nonslidable plate 42 is fixed to the loom;
In attaching my improved stopping de vice to a loom, bracket 39 is bolted to breast beam 11 by lag bolts 41 and adjusted to the desiredheight by the lag bolts which pass through slots 40 in the bracket, and slidable plate 52 is connected to arm 62 on the knockoff shaft. In other words, the adjustment is such that the arcuate edges of plates 42 and 52, when in the position shown in Figure 3, will barely clear the lower end of trip 19 when the lay beam swings to and from the position shown in' Figure 4.
The arcuate edges will, regardless of the position in which the weaver stops the lay beam, always hold trip 19 in-itsupper or inoperative position whilethe weaver is manipulating the shutles in the boxes thereby causing bent ends 28 to swing free of shoulder 23 on the .trip.. For example, suppose that the loom is stopped by the knockoff lever at a point where trip 19 will be directly above recess 50 or notch 57, the knockoli lever, being connected to slidable plate 52, 'will slide it relatively to non-slidable plate 42, so that recess 50 will be bridged by the arcuate edge 56 and notch 57 by the arcuate edge 49, thus leaving the arcuate edges 49 and 56 so that they form a practically continuous arcuate edge bridging recess 50 and notch 57 as shown in Figure 9.

Similarly if the trip is stopped directly above notch 57, .arcuate edge 49'bridging it will prevent the trip from idropping therein and hold it in its upper position. After the weaver has properly set the shuttles in the boxes, the bent end 28 leading from the empty shuttle boxwill engage shoulder 23 and hold trip 19 in its. upper position, while the other bent endr28, which leads from' the occupied shuttle box, will remain free of shoulder 23. The loom may then be started again by moving the knock-oil lever into its former position. This will move slidable plate 52 and bring notch opposite recess 50 which again places my improved stopping device in set position for stopping the loom. ,Thus'tripj 19 is always held in its upper-"position while the weaver manipulates the shuttles and until one of the bent ends 28 engages under shoulder 23.

The non-slid-able plate 4-2 and slidable plate 52, having corresponding arcuate edges, produce a practically continuous arcuate edge 'when the plates are slid, relatively to eachother, from their normal to their loom stopping position so that the lay beam may be stopped at any point in its movement without the trip dropping down in recess 50 or notch 57 hile the weaver is manipulating the shuttles in the boxes. l

In combination with a loom having a breast beam, stop mechanism, batten structure and shuttle boxes ;-a non-slidable plate secured to the breast beam and having an arcuate edge interrupted by a cam face; a plate mounted to slide relatively'to the nonslidable plate and having an arcuate edge interrupted by a shoulder; means connecting the slidable plate With the stop mechanism; a'slidable trip on the batten structure adapt ed to engage the shoulder and cam face if released before the loom stops, and be held in raised position'by the arcuate edges if released after the loom stops, and means cooperating With the shuttleboxes for holding and releasing the trip.

In combination With a loom having a breast beam, stop mechanism, batten struc ture and shuttle boxes; a non-slidable plate secured to the breast beam and having an arcuate edge interrupted by a recess forming a cam face; projections on the side of the plate; a plate having slots slidable on the projections and provided with an arcuate edge interrupted by a notch forming a shoulder; means connecting the slidable plate to the stop mechanism; a trip on the batten structure adapted to engage the shoulderand cam face if released before the loom stops, and be held in raised position by the arcuate edges if released after the loom stops, and means cc-operating with the shuttle boxes for holding and releasing the trip. 8. In combination With a loom having a breast beam, stop mechanism, batten structure and shuttle boxes; a non-slidable plate secured to the breast beam and havingan arcuate edge'interrupted by a recess forming a cam face; projections onthe side of the plate; a plate having slots slidableon the projections and provided With an arcuate edge interrupted by a notch forming a shoulder; means connecting the slidable plate to the stop mechanism; a trip slidable on the batten structure adapted to engage the shoulder and cam face if released before the looms stops, and be held in raised position by the arcuate edges if released after the loom stops, and means co-operating With ing the slidable plate tothe stop mechanism; a trip on the batten structure adapted to engage the shoulder and cam face, and means: co-operating With the shuttle boxes for holding and releasing the trip.

In combination With a loom having a breast beam, stop mechanism, batten structure and shuttle boxes; a bracket. having vertical slots; bolts passing'through the slots for securing the bracket to the breast beam; a non-slidable plate mounted on the bracket for swinging adjustment and having an arcuate edge interrupted by a cam face; a plate mounted to slide relativelyto-the nonslidable plate and having an arcuate edge interrupted by a shoulder; means connecting the slidable plate with the stop mecha nism; a trip on the batten structure adapted to engage the shoulder and cam face, and means co-operating- With the shuttle boxes for holding and releasing the trip.

In combination With a loom having a breast beam, stop mechanism, batten struc ture and'shuttle boxes; a bracket mounted on the breast beam for vertical adjustment; a non-slidable plate having an arcuate u per edge interrupted by a cam face; a bolt xed to the plate for adjustably securing the plate to the bracket; a plate mounted to slide relatively to the non-slidable plate and having an arcuate edge interrupted by a shoulder; means connecting the slidable plate With the stop mechanism; a trip on thebatten structure adapted to engage theshoulder and cam face, and means co-operating With the shuttle boxes'for holdingand releasing the trip.

Incombination With a loom having a breast'beam, stop mechanism, batten structure and shuttle boxes; a bracket mounted on the breast beam for vertical adjustment and having an opening; a non-slidable plate having an arcuate upper edge interrupted by a cam face; a boss on: the plate having a counterbore and an angular opening;.'a securing bolt having an angular part fitting Within the angular opening and passing through the opening in the bracket for adjustably securing the plate to the bracket; a plate mounted to slide relatively to the nonslidable plate and having an arcuateedge interrupted by a shoulder; means connecting the slidable plate With the stop mechanism; a trip onthe batten structure adapted to enga e the shoulder and c'amface, and
b u means co-operatmg withthe shuttle boxes trip downward; means co-operating With the shuttle boxes for engaging the shoulder to hold the trip in its upper position, and means co-operating With the trip for stopping the loom.

In combination With a loom having a batten structure and shuttle boxes; a trip having a shoulder in its upper end slidable on the batten structure; rods rockably mounted on the batten structure; mounted on the inner ends ofthe rods for adjustment about the axis of the rods and for adjustment radially of the rods and having bent upper ends engaging the shoulder; means on the outer ends of the rods co-operating with the shuttle boxes to move the arms and release the trip, and means cooperating With the trip for stopping the loom. In combination with a loom having a batten structure and shuttle boxes; a trip having a shoulder in its upper end slidable on the" batten structure; rods rockably mounted on the batten structure; heads adjustably mounted on the inner ends of the rods; arms adjustably mounted on the heads and having bent upper ends engaging the shoulder; means on the outer ends of the rod co-operating With the shuttle'boxes to move the arms and release the trip, and means co-operating with the trip for stopping the loom. In combination with a loom having a batten structure and shuttle boxes; a trip having a shoulder in its upper end slidable on the batten structure; rods rockably mounted on the batten structure; arms adjust-ably mounted on the inner ends of the rods and having bent upper ends engaging arms the shoulder; fingers mounted on the outer ends for adjustment about the axis of the rods and for adjustment radially of the rods and having humps engaging the shuttle boxes for removing the arms to release the,
trip, and means co-operating with the tri for stopping the loom. I

In combination With a loom having a batten structure and shuttle boxes; a trip having a' shoulder in its upper end slidable and having bent upper "ends engaging the shoulder; heads adjustably mounted on" the outer ends of the rods; fingers having humps engaging the shuttle boxes adjustably mounted in said heads, and means co-operating With the trip for stopping the loom.

In combination with a loomhaving batten structure and shuttle boxes; a bracket, having guide eyes and lugs provided With openings, secured to the battenstructure; a trip provided With a shoulder in its upper end slidable in the guide eyes;,,a coiled spring connected to the trip and having its ends extending through the openings; means co-operatingwith theshuttle boxes for engaging the shoulder to hold the'trip in its upper pos1t1on,-and means co-operating Withthe trip for stopping the loom. v v
