Description

Dec 23, A. P. DARLEY ATTACHMENT FOR STOVEPIPES Filed Oct. 13, 1923 ATTORNEY l etentcd Dec. 23, 1924..
UNITED STATES LSZtttifiE ALFRED P. DARLEY, 01E CEDABEDGE, COLORADO.
ATTACHMENT FOR STOVEPIPES.
Application filed. October 13, 1923. Serial No. 668,432.
1/ '0 (4?! H4207)? it may concern:
Be it known that I. ALFRED I I)ARLEY, a citizen of the United idtates residing at Cedar-edge. in the county of Delta and State of Colorado, have invented new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Stovepipes, of which the following is a specificat-ion.
This invention relates to an attachment for stove pipes and more particularly to a new construction of stove pipe elbow whereby stove pipes will be more efficiently cleaned.
An object of the invention is the construction of a simple device that may be removed to allow the insertion of an instrument into the pipe for cleaning purposes.
A feature of my invention is the novel manner of constructing a plate and associatino' same with clips so that the plate will be eftectively held against accidental displacement.
ith these and other objects in view the invention will be better understood from the :lollowing detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein Fig. l is a side elevation of the invention.
Fig. 2 a top plan view.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4: is a CUVOI.
Again referring to the drawing illustrating one of the many constructions of my invention the numeral 1 designates a stove pipe shown in this particular instance as a stove pipe elbow. This pipe is formed with an elongated opening 2 so that a brush or other instrument may be readily inserted therethrough and operated to clean the inside of the stove pipe. An arcuate shaped plate 3 is adapted to cover the opening and detail enlarged view of the is of a size to overlap the edge of the opening as indicated at 4. Clips 5 are provided having ends 6 upturned so that the clips may be frictionally and yieldably forced over the plate for holding the same in place. A rivet 7 secures each clip to the pipe for arcuate swinging movement. Also mounted on this rivet is a washer 8 that engages in an arcuate depression 9 in the plate and thus the plate is held against accidental displace ment but may be readily removed when necessary.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing it will be apparent that I provide an attachment that may be readily manipulated for allowing quick access to the interior of the pipe in a manner that same may be thoroughly cleaned.
It will also be noted that the device is of simple construction and may be manufactured at a relatively low cost and I wish it to be understood that the plate may be given various other shapes and a different construction of clips may be used without departing from the spirit of this invention. and, therefore I do not desire to be limited in any manner except as set forth in the claim hereunto appended.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is:
A stove pipe elbow having an opening therein, a plate for closing the opening and ovelapping the edge of the opening, said plate having an arcuate depression in each end. a pin carried by the elbow adjacent each end of the opening a washer on each pin fitting into the depression of the plate and yieldable clips carried by the pins for engagement with the outer face of the plate to retain the same against displacement.
In. testimony whereof I affiX my signature.
ALFRED P. DARLEY.
