To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, ANNA F. GARRETSON, citizen of the United States, residing at Il. R. #2, Turner, in the county of Marion and State of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stovepipe- Cleaners, of which the following is a speciiication.

This present invention relates to improvements in stove pipe and flue cleaners and as its principal object aims to provide a device of this character as is normally carried by the stove pipe and which may be brought into operation quickly and easily and which will thoroughly clean the pipe at the point desired.

The further object of the invention is to provide a device of the above character which is cheap to construct, easy to apply to conventional stove pipes, and one which does not obstruct the stove pipe or in any way prevent the free passage of smoke therethrough. Various other objects and advantages of my invention will become apparent from the contents of the following description.

To illustrate the particular usages of my invention I have shown in the drawings a stove pipe of conventional form, consisting in part of an elbow 10 which to accommodate the cleaner contemplated by my invention is provided with an opening 11. It is pointed out that the edges of this opening 11 may be turned inwardly at 12 to form a collar or offset portion within the elbow as clearly shown in Fig. 2.

My improved cleaner consists of a body portion 13 which may be constructed of metal, a handle portion 14 which is adapted to slide through the opening 11 of the elbow and a reinforcing plate 15 which secures the handle 14 to the body member 13 as at 16 and 17. Ways 18 are formed in the member 14 having one edge substantially flushed with the outer face of the body member 13 when the latter is in its normal position.

When the cleaner is not in use the handle member 14 projects outwardly through the opening 11 of the elbow and the prongs 19 of a resilient key 20 lit the ways 18 in order to hold the entire device in a substantial rigid position. rllhe body member 13 and the reinforcing plate 15 being constructed of metal are designed to give slightly when the handle member 14 is drawn outwardly through the opening 11 so that when the key 2O is in place the said body member and reinforcing plate will tend to draw the hanf die member 14 into the elbow, thus locking the key tightly in place. p

I further provide the handle member 14 with a threaded opening 21 so that an eX- tension handle such as shown at 22 may be provided in order to operate the cleaner within the elbow. This handle may be in sections as shown in Fig. 5.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

A stove pipe cleaner comprising in combination, a body member, a handle portion, means yieldingly connecting said body portion and said handle portion, said handle member adapted to normally project through an opening in a stove pipe elbow, said handle portion being provided with ways normally lying on the outside of said stove pipe, and a key fitting said ways to lock said handle portion rigidly to said stove pipe substantially as described.
