Description
Patented Dec. Z3, 1924.
srrss rezan CHRISTIAN J'. WAHL, 0F MICHIGAN CITY, INDIANA.
GAME PIECE.
Application led November To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN J. VVAr-IL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Michigan City, in the county of La Porte, State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Game Pieces; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
rlhis invention relates to new and useful improvements in game pieces, and particularly to pieces used in the game of quoits.
In a large number of localities horseshoes are used in playing the game of quoits, and it is with a particular form of horseshoe for playing this game that the present device deals.
One object of the invention is to provide a horseshoe of this character which is so formed that it is properly balanced, and when tossed by a player, will fly through the air, and land on the ground in the same manner, and assume the same positions as the ordinary circular quoit.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.
In the drawing:
Figure l is a plan View of a horseshoe made in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view on the line 2 2 of Figure l.
Figure 3 is a sectional view on the line 3 3 of Figure 1.
Referring particularly to the accompanying drawing, 10 represents the body of the game piece, which is in the form of a horseshoe, including the leg portions 1l and the curved bight portion 12. It will be noted that the bight portion is the major part of a true circle, with the leg portions extending in tangential relation from the ends of the bight portion and in convergent relation, as
clearly seen in the plan view, Figure 1. The
terminals of the leg portions are turned outwardly away from each other, as shown at 1, 1923. Serial No.v 672,132.
13. Formed in the bight portion, and extending longitudinally thereof, from each side of the center, in parallel relation to the sides or edges of said portion, are the slots 14, while in the legs 11 are formed similar slots which conform to the contour of said legs, shown at 15. In the center of the bight portion, and forming the division between the adjacent ends of theslots 14:, is a web 16, of a thickness equal to that of the body of the shoe. Between the slots 14 and 15, and at the junction of the legs with the ends'of the bight portion, are the webs 17, the same being of approximately one-third the thickness of the body of the shoe, and spaced centrally of the said thickness of the shoe. yThe terminals of the leg portions are solid, as shown at 18. By this construction, the weight of the portion of the shoe at one side of the section line 3 3 will be equal to that at the other side of said line, whereby the body o-f the piece will be properly balanced, and will function in the same manner as the ordinary circular disk quoit.
What is claimed is:
l. A quoit in the form of a horseshoe and comprising a body havingr leg portions and a connecting bight portion, openings in the bight and leg portions, and webs whereby to balance the leg and bight portions. f
2. A quoit in the form of a'horseshoe and comprising a body having leg portions, and a connecting bight portion, the bight portion having longitudinally extending slots terminating adjacent the juncture of the bight and leg portions and separated at the center of the bight portion by a web of a thickness equal to that of the body, the terminals of the legs having webs, and longitudinal slots, the body having webs at the juncture of the bight and legs of a thickness less than that of the body and centered with respect to the thickness of the body.
.In testimony whereof, I affix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
CHRISTIAN J. WAHL.
