W. L. WALKER BILL FILE Filed April 1924 INVENTOR ATTORN EY WITNESS:
(ill
Patented Dec. 16, 1924.
UNITED STATES isiasai BILL FILE.
Application filed April 7, 1924. Serial No. 704,849.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, W ILLIAM L. WALKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at South Portland, in the county of Cumherland and State of Maine, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bill Files, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is the production of a hill lile in which hills or similar documents are firmly clamped on a rigid support that forms the uppe' and inclined plate of bent spring body, and which, upon compression toward the base thereof will auton'iatically release the clamping means so that hills may he readily inserted in or removed from the device.
With the ahove hroadly stated object in view and others which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, reference is to be had to the drawing which accompanies and which forms part of this application.
In the drawing Figure l is a plan view of the improvement.
Figure 2 a rear end view thereof. Figure 3 is a side elevation thereof.
Figure i.- is an approximately central longitudinal sectional view through the improvement showing hills clamped thereon.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary edge view showiug the npper hill supportingelement of the spring body compressed against the base thereof to swing the clamp to hill releasing position.
As disclosed by the drawing I make use of a sheet of comparatively thin spring metal. This sheet is rounded upon itself, as at 1, to provide a flat hase 72 and a top or table 3 which arranged at an upward inclination with respect to the hase. To reinforce the base and the tahle I hend or flange the.
edges thereof. as indicated hy the numeral l. The free end of the table 2 is also provided with an angular downwardly directed flange The base is of a greater length than the table and at suitable points adja cent to its ends the same is depressed to form outwardly projectingfeet 6. The feet also add to the rigidity of the structure.
The base 2, adjacent to its free end is preferably slitted and the metal bounded by the slit rounded to provide spaced eyes 7 These eyes receive tiierethrough the straight ends 8 of the hill clampingelement. The bill clamping element is constructed of a single strand of wire or other resilient material, having angle arms 9 arising; from its ends 8 that pass through suitable openings in the flange The wire strands are rounded in the, same direction from thegrngle arms and are connected. This last mentioned portion forms the substantially J-shaped grip ping element of the clamp and is designated in. the drawings hy the numeral 10. Because of the tendency of the table 3 to spring stay from the hase 2 the gripping element it) of the clamp will he forced into tigl'lt engagement with the table so that hills may be effectively ripped hetween the said clamp- "uq' element and the table. A downward sure on the tahle will cause the angle ans 9 of the gripping element to ride hroun'h the openings ll in the flange or ledge of the tahle, and consequently swing the gripping element to the position illus rated in Figure 5 of the drawings, so that ills may be readily ai an 'ed on or removed rom the tahle.
il aving described the ii'ivention, I claim 1 l. ii. l'll holder including; a metal plate rounded upon itself to provide a base and a tahle arranged angularh of and designed to spring away from the, base a wire gripping elementv including a central U-shaped portion having angle lens passing through openings in the free end of the tahle and said lens having offset ends which are jonri'ialed in hearings in the base.
2. it hill holder. comprising a resilient metal plate hent upon itself to provide a base and a. table wh ch is swingahle away from the hase. said base and table havini: their edges formed with reinforcing flanges. and the outer end of the table heing tiantied downwardly and provided with o 'ienings. a hill gripping element constructed of wire to include a U-shaped portion having; angle arms depending from the ends thereof and passing; through the, openings in the flange of the tahle, and said. arms having outturned ends which are journaled in hearings in the hase. I
In testimony whereof turc.
a iliii my si gna- TVILLIAM L. VJALKER.
