Secured to the rear end of the left hand side member 10 by screws 42 is a member 43 in which is pivotally mounted a ratchet tooth 44, a light spring 45 having its ends attached to the `outer free end of the ratchet tooth 44 and the member .43 respectively, a pin 46 limiting the movement to the left, as viewed in Fig. 4, of the outer free end of such ratchettooth 44. Secured to the left hand end of the shaft 37 is a cam lever 47 which, as the crosshcads 32 move to the'iear of the apparatus, rides up on the cam tooth 46 causing a rotation of the shaft 37 to move the gripping members 39`upward away from the gripping menibers 40 thereby bringing such gripping members into position to grasp the forward edge of the paper as it is fed out from the press. Secured to the extreme front end of the right hand member 10 by screws 48 is a cani block 49, the cam surface of which lies in the path of movement of a roller 50 mounted on the end of a lever 51 that is the left, as viewed in Fig. 5, the roller 50,
riding up on the cam surface of the cam block 49 will cause a rotation of the shaft 38 to move the gripping members 40 downward from engagement with the gripping members 30, thereby releasing the paper that may have been gripped therebetween. The press being started, as the bars 71 reciprocate and move into the position shown in Fig. 4, the cross bar or -beam 33 will have been moved rearwardly until it o'ccul'iies the position relative tothe delivery end of the press, as indicated in Figs. 3 and 4, where the end of the lever 47 rides up on the ratchet tooth 44, rotating in this manner thev shaft 37 and lifting the gripping devices 39 upwardly to provide a substantial space between the free ends thereof and the free ends of the gripping members 40. At this time, the ends of the bars 75 will engage with the forward ends of the rods 83, moving the same rearwardly and causing a kicking forward'of the printed sheet 87d by the arms 81 and the jogging devices so that'the printed` Sheet is moved positively into the position shown in Fig. 6 where it will be positively engaged by the gripping devices 39 and 40. As the cross bar or beam 33 reaches its cxtreme rearward position, the hook end of the lever 47 rides over the end of the ratchet tooth 44, allowing the springs 41 to bring the gripping devices .39 and 40 into close assocf I.tion with each other and positively gripping the forward edge of the ,paper therebetween.
