IMPROVEMENT IN MEAT AND PICKLE WEIGHTS.
Specification forming part of' Letters Patent No. 151,980, dated June 16, 1574; application tiled Api il 1G, 1874.
To all lwhom 'it may concern Be it known that I, WALTER HoLconB, of Garrettsville, county of Portage and State of Ohio, have invented a Meat and Pickle Weight, of which the following is a specification:
The object of this invention is to provide a suitable weight for use on meats, pickles, or other articles which require to be kept under brine or pickle of any kind. My invention consists of akcircular weight ot' suitable size and thickness, varying according to the size of the cask, barrel, tub, crock, or other receptaclein which it is desired to be used, such weight to be manufactured of glass or potteryware of any kind, with two seinicircular, oval, or crescent-`shaped openings, A A, near the center, and at such distance from each other that the portion separating them will form a convenient handle, B, and at the saine time allow a free circulation of the brine or other fluid. The smaller sizes may be made with a single round or oval hole instead of two, as above described,-'at or near the center, and of convenient size for inserting the hand.

It is designed that when a portion of the contents of an y receptacle on which the aforementioned weight is placed are desired, the weight may be raised upon one edge, the opposite edge resting against the inner side ot' the barrel or cask in which it is used, while it may readily be reinovcd for the purpose of cleaning, or for the better handling or removal of any portion of the contents.
I claim as my inventioni A weight manufactured of pottery-ware or glass, substantially as described, for keeping meat and pickles under brine.
