Description

R. M. HERNDON s'rovE CLOTH Filed April 17, 1922 Iwwntoc /saaezmffemdow Patented Dec. 16, 1924.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
STO'VE CLOTH.
Application filed April 17, 1922.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, RosALin M. HERNDoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at l"`1edericksburg, in the county of Spotsyl- 5 Vania and State ot' Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stove Cloths, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relate-s to hand coverings and more particularly to a stove cloth designed to protect the hands in handling hot cooking utensils and the like.
The invention contemplates the provision of a cloth which may be cheaply manufactured and which may be readily fitted on to the hand and will serve eifectnally as a protecting medium under the conditions above stated.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure l is a perspective view of the art-icle embodying the invention in position for use; and
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view therethrough.
The article embodying the invention comprises a body sheet which is indicated in general by the numeral l and comprises an inner ply 2 and an outer ply 8 which are of the same marginal contour and marginally stitched together or otherwise united. The ply 3 is preferably made of outing or some other similar vcloth and the ply 2, which constitutes a lining ply, is a heavy drill or duch` or it may be of any other cloth material of relatively heavy quality and having heat insulating properties.
The body sheet l is formed near the wrist portion with an opening indicated by the serial No. 553,502.
numeral 4, and a thumb stall 5 is fitted at its base into this opening and stitched or otherwise united to the sheet l as at 6. The thumb stall 5 extends at an angle in a direction away from the wrist end of the body cloth l and when the thumb of the hand is fitted into, the stall, the body sheet l will cover and protect the back ot the lingers, thumb, and wrist oit' the hand should it come in contact with any part of a hot oven, stove,
or pan.
A suspension strap or loop 7 is secured in 50 any suitable manner to the wrist portion of the body sheet and constitutes means where by the article may be hung up when not in use.
Having thus described the invention, what 5 is claimed as new is:
A hand protector of the class described comprising a relatively wide body sheet of heavy heat -insulating cloth having a straight transverse rear margin, a transversely curved front margin, and straight side margins mutually disconnected whereby to permit of ready and quick application and removal of the protector, and a thumb stall secured at its base to the sheet at a point adjacent the rear margin thereof and midway between the said side margins of the sheet, whereby when the protector is applied to the hand, one lateral half ot the sheet will cover the palm of the hand and the other lateral half of the sheet will cover the back of the hand, the thumb of the hand occupying the thumb stall.
ln testimony whereof l :itiix my signature.
