Said clutch actuating plate 10 is vibrated by means of a link which is connected to a ball stud 16 carried by the clutch plate, and to a ball stud 17 adjustably mounted in a slot 18 formed in an arm 19. The arm 19 is fixed to the lower end of a shaft 20. This shaft 20 is mounted in bearings 21 and 22 carried by the casing 1. The shaft 20 is adapted to be oscillated, and as said shaft oscillates it will impart vibrations to the clutch plate 10, and this in turn will rotate the shaft 7 intermittently or step by step.
The feed wheel 6 is mounted torotate in a bracket 23 which is pivotally mounted at 24:
so that said feed wheel may be bodily swung away from the inner feed wheel 5 to permit the insertion of the material. Said bracket 23 is normally swung so as to hold the feed wheels yieldingly in contact with each other by means of a spring 25, and said bracket may be swung in the opposite direction by a means of a lever 28 which is connected to a knee shift or treadle.
The feed-wheel 6 is connected by a suitable series of gears to a gear wheel 29, shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1, and this gear wheel 29 is carried by avertical shaft 30, also shown in dotted lines in said figure. On the upper end of the shaft 30 there is a clutch mechanism similar to that-shown more in detail in Fig. 3. Said clutch mechanism includes a clutch actuating plate 31, clutch dogs 32, shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2, and a clutch disk connected to the shaft 30 upon which said dogs are adapted to grip for intermittently turning the shaft 30. Clutch actuating plate 31 carries a ball stud 33, to which one end of a link 34 is connected. The other end of this link 34 is connected to a ball stud 35 which is adjustably mounted in aslot 36 formed in an arm 37 which is connected to the upper end of the shaft 20. As the shaft 20 oscillates, it will move the link 34 back and forth and impart intermittent or step by step movement to the outer feed wheel 6. 1
By adjusting the position of the ball stud 35 in the slot 36, the length of the'feed move ment imparted to the outer feed wheel may be varied. Likewise by adjusting the stud 17 in the slot 18 in the arm 19, the feed stroke of the inner feed wheel maybe varied, and while both these feed wheels are intermittently operated from-the same shaft 20, these devices afford means whereby the feed stroke of either feed wheel may be varied relative to the other so that saidfeed wheels may be caused to move to feed the material in unison or one feed wheel feed or crowd the material a little faster than the other to suit whatever class of work is being done.

This arm 37' carries a ball stud 38 with which a link 39 is connected. The stud 38 is mounted for adjustment in a slot 40 formed in said arm 37, and indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 3. The link 39 at its other end is connected to a ball stud 41 carried by a lever 42 which is pivoted to swing about a fulcrum center 43. The inner end of the lever 42 carries a ball stud 4:4, to which an eccentric strap 45, cooperating with an eccentrio 16 on the main shaft 2, is connected.
It will readily be seen that by adjusting the ball stud 38 the extent of oscillation imparted to the shaft 20 may be varied, and this will simultaneously vary the feed strokes of both the inner and outer feed wheels. It will be apparent, therefore, that we have provided a feeding mechanism for a cup feed machine wherein the feed stroke of the inner and outer feed wheels maybe independently adjusted and wherein the feed stroke of the inner and outerfeed wheels may likewise be simultaneously adjusted.
It is obvious that minor changes in the details of construction and the arrangement of the parts may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention as set forth in the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention, what we claim as new is 1. A sewing machine including in con bination, feed wheels between which a fabric is clamped and fed to a stitching mechanism. means for independently rotating said feed wheels including devices whereby the feed strokes of said feed wheels may be independently varied.
2. A sewing machine including in combination, feed wheels between which a fabric is fed to stitching mechanism, an intermittently actuating clutch for rotating one of said feed wheels, and a separate intermit tently actuating clutch for rotating the other feed wheels, and devices for actuating said clutches including means whereby the feed ing strokes imparted by said clutches may be independently varied.

A sewing machine including in combination, feed wheels between which a fabric is fed to stitching mechanism, an intermittently actuating clutch for operating one of said feed wheels, an intermittently actuating clutch for operating the other feed wheel, a shaft, means for oscillating said shaft, devices connecting said shaft to one of said clutches, and devices connecting said shaft to the other clutch, said devices connecting the clutches to the shaft including means whereby the feed strokes of the clutches may be independently varied, said means for oscillating the shaft including devices whereby the oscillating movement imparted to the shaft may be varied.

A sewing machine including in combination, a horizontal reciprocating needle, an inner feed wheel, means for actuating the same, an outer feed wheel, a bracket pivoted above said needle supporting said outer feed wheel, a shaft connected to the outer feed wheel, an intermittent clutch connected to the upper end of said shaft, a link having a ball stud connection with said clutch for operating the same, a vertical. shaft hav ing an arm carrying a ball stud to which said link is connected, and means for swinging the bracket to separate said feed wheels, said ball stud carried by the arm of the vertical shaft being adjustably attached there to whereby the feed stroke of the outer feed wheel may be varied.

A sewing machine including in combination, a horizontal reciprocating needle, an inner feed wheel, means for actuating the same, an outer feed wheel, a bracket pivoted above said needle and supporting said outer feed wheel, a shaft connected to the outer feed wheel, an intermittent clutch connected to the upper end of said shaft, a link having a ball stud connection with said clutch for operating the same, a vertical shaft having an arm carrying a ball stud. to which said link is connected, and means for swinging the bracket to separate said feed wheels, said ball stud carried by the arm of the vertical shaft being adjustably attached thereto whereby the feed stroke of the outer feed wheel may be varied, said vertical shaft having an intermediate arm, a link adjustably connected thereto, a lever to which said link is connected, a main shaft, an eccentric on said main shaft, and an eccentric strap operated by said eccentric and connected to said lever.
11. In a sewing machine of the class described, a pair of adjacently placed feed cups, devices for imparting an intermittent revoluble movement positively to both feed cups, means for operating the said means, and devices for separately adjusting the ex tent of the movement of each feed cup,

In a sewing machine of the class described, adjacently placed feed cups, devices for imparting an intermittent revoluble movement positively to both feed cups, means for operating the aforesaid means, devices for separately adjusting the extent of movement of each feed cup, and devices for simultaneously adjusting the extent of the movement of both feed cups.
13. In a sewing machine of the class described, a frame, an inner feed cup mounted in the frame, an overhanging rocker arm pivotally mounted in the frame, an outer ion feed cup mounted in the said rocker arm, means for imparting an intermittent revoluble movement to the said inner feed cup, means for imparting an intermittent revoluble movement to the outer feed cup, and adjustable means for separately regulating the extent of movement of each feed cup.
14. In a sewing machine of the class described, a frame, an inner feed cup mounted in the frame, an overhanging rocker arm pivotally mounted in the frame, an outer feed cup mounted in the said rocker arm, means for imparting an intermittent revvoluble movement to the said inner feed cup, means for imparting an intermittent revoluble movement to the outer feed cup, adjustable means for separately regulating the extent of movement of each feed cup, and
means for simultaneously adjusting the extent of the movement of both feed cups.
15. In a sewing machine of the class described, a frame, a drive shaft mounted therein, a rocker arm mounted in the frame, a feed cup carried by the rocker arm, a feed cup mounted in the frame, devices for imparting intermittent partial revoluble movements to the said feed cups, a rocker shaft journaled in the said frame, means for operating the rocker shaft from the said drive shaft, and means for separately actuating the said devices for moving the said feed cups from the said rocker shaft.
