. SALVATORE PICCIOTTO, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
VANITY CASE.
Application filed March 27, 1924. `Serial No. 702,330.
To @ZZ whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, SALVATORE Prooro'rro, a subject of the King of Italy, residing'at N ew York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vanity Cases, of which the following .is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in vanity cases.
An important object of the invention is to provide a vanity case of very compact form which may be easily carried in a ladys pocket or purse and is adapted for holding substantially all of the articles necessary for a ladys toilet while shopping or on other similar trips.
A further object of the invention is to form a vanity case of the above noted type which is of a shape to simulate a revolver for the purpose of affording al certain degree of protection for the owner.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,-
Figure 1 is a perspective View of the vanity case and illustrates the same as being closed and suggests the similarity it bears to a Savage or automatic revolver,
Figure 2 is an elevational view of the vann ity case illustrated in Fig. 1 and sets forth the appearance of the same when open and the manner of arranging the various toilet articles therein,
Figure 8 is a longitudinal sectional View of the vanity case illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2, and
Figure 4 is a rear end elevational view, partly broken away, of the vanity case as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 3.
In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of this invention, the numerals 5 and 6 designate the two parts of the casing which are hingedly connected, as at 7, along the portion of the casing which represents the barrel of a revolver. This casing is further formed with the hand grip portion 5a and 6a which are'provided with the clasp structure 8 that is employed for retaining the two parts 5 and 6 in their closed positions in respect to each other.
In Figs. 2 and 3, the casing part 5 is illustrated as being provided with the elastic straps 9 which are employed for securely holding the nail file 10, scissors 11, and cuticle cutter 12. This portion 5 of the casing is further provided with an integrally formed tray 13 which is adapted for receiving and carrying a chamois or powder puff 14 which is provided with the linger strap or loop 15.
The opposite portion of the casing which is designated by the numeral 6 is provided with a mirror 16 which is suitably secured to the Wall of the casing part and extends through the hand grip portion 6"L and crosses the barrel portion of this casing part 6. The rear end of the barrel portion of this part is also provided with an integrally formed tray 17 that is adapted for carrying a block of powder or other similar material 18.
The casing part 6 is further illustrated as being provided with an elastic strap 19 which is intended for holding a small vial or glass bottle 20 which is intended to be filled with perfumery or the like, as designated by the numeral 21 in Fig. 3. In this last referred to gure, the vial or bottle 20 is illustrated as being provided with a removable bottom 2Oa having an aperture formed therein through which the plunger rod 22 extends. This plunger rod is provided with a disk or piston 23 at the end which is positioned within the vial or bottle 20 and this disk or piston is intended to force the perfumery out of the vial through the nozzle 20h. In Figs. 2 and 3, the casing parts are illustrated as being provided with the alined notches 24 which form an opening through which the perfumery is to be discharged from the casing. The casing part 6 is illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 as being formed with a trigger guard portion 25 which protects the trigger 26 that is pivoted at 27 to the said casing part. The end 28 of the trigger that is positioned within the casing is adapted for engaging the rear end of the push rod 22 for providing means for permitting the disk or piston to be moved through the vial or bottle 20. There is also provided a spring 29 which encircles the. push rod V22 and is employed for returning the disk or piston 23 to the removable end 2O"l of the vial or bottle 20 after the trigger 2G has been operated for ejecting a desired quantity of perfumery from the said bottle.
It is now believed that the construction of the vanity case embodying this invention will be completely understood by those skilled in the art. It is also believed that the operation of the perfumery ejector Will be clearly understood. The casing formed of the parts 5 and 6 has been given a shape to simulate a revolver for the purpose oit permitting the owner of the vanity case to use the same for endeavoring to deceive a highivayman or the like and it is believed that the same Will atliord a certain degree of' protection for the owner.
It is intended that this vanity case be made of celluloid, but, oif course, it is to be understood that the same may be made of any suitable metal, such as tin, silver, or gold, and also that some may be finished in mother-of-pearl or ivory. By forming this vanity case of the materials just referred to,
the same may be manufactured to suit the taste and desires ot people ot different classes and means.
It is to be understood that the form ol this invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to Without departing'from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
Having thus described the invention, l claim :`H
A vanity case of piston formation, said case being formed of similar hinged sections, article retaining means carried by the sections, a perfume container and plunger Carried by one section, and a trigger lever carried by the same section 'for operating the plunger.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature,
SALVATORE PICCOTTO.
