Toall whom it may concern.'
Be it known that 'ALPHONSE F. MoNnnsn, citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mixing Faucets, of which the following is a specification. y
This invention relates to faucets, and has special reference to mixing faucets. e
More particularly, the invention relates to mixing faucets peculiarly adapted for use in connection with coffee, milk, and other like urns such as are used in hotels, restaurants and lunch rooms. i
One important object ofthe invention is to improve the general construction of a device of this character.
A second important object4 of the invention is to provide and improve a mixing faucet adapted to be used for liquids wherein special means exist whereby the faucet may be readily cleaned out.
third important object of the'invention is to provide an improved faucet of this description wherein means exist, independent of the mixing valve, for, cuttin off the iiow through one of the channels o the faucet.
A fourth important object of the invention is to provide an improved arrangement of urn and piping in connection with such a faucet.
With the above and other objects in view as will be hereinafter apparent, the invention consists in general of certain novel dev tails of construction andl combination of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and speelfically claimed.
1n the accompanying drawings, like characters of reference indicate like parts in thev several views, and
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of the faucet.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section therethrough.
Fig. It' is a diagrammatic view of the urn and piping arrangement.
In carrying out the objects of this invention, there is provided a valve body- 10, having a lower passage'll, .which extends through a rearwardly projecting pipe connection 12, threaded `as at 13 for screwing into an urn or union. Above the passage 11 is a second passage 14, which extends through a rearwardly projecting tubular member 15, threaded internally at its rear endas at 16, so that a nipple may be screwed therein. These passages'lt and 11 are entirely separate from each other except at the forward end of the body where they curve downward and unite in a com mon outlet 17. Moreover, the passages 11 and 11 have at their forward ends suitable threaded openings for the reception of clean- -out plugs 18, which are alined with said faucets. Intermediate the ends of the hori- Zontal ortions of the passages is formed a valve c amber 19, wherein is fitted a tapered plug valve 20,`having an upper Huid passage 21, and a lower fluid passage 22, which may be brought into registry with the respective passages 14 and 11 by means of a handle 23, fitted at the upper end of the plu@ valve. This plug valve is provided wlth the usual spring washer 2dr, and retaining screw'25 at its lower end. Between the valve 20, and the rear end of the `passage 11 is formed a second valve seat .wherein is provided a plug valve 26, -tted `with a thumb piece 27 for rotating the same,
this valve being provided with a passage'28,
which may be brought into registry with the passage 11. This valve is likewise provided with a spring washer 29, and retaining screw 30.
By reason of the extension of the portion 12 rearwardly of the passage 11, ready connection is adorded to the piping from the' urns. Furthermore, the provision of the valve 26 permits cutting ed of the dow of Huid through the passage 11, while leaving the passage 1t to be opened and closed by the valve 20. In Figure 4, the double Afaucet is indicated in general at F, and the upper passage 14 is connected by a "lm 31 to branch pipes 32, each provided with a.'
lli)
y ortions provide the invention without departing from the spirit thereof. It is not, therefore, desired to confine the invention to the exact form herein shown and described, but itis desired to include` all such as properly come within the scope claimed. A
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is:`
1. In a faucet of the class valve body havin described, a upper and lower tubular with passages extending ongitudinally therethrough, said portions being arranged to provide a plug valve seat intermediate their ends, the. passages through said portions being curved downwardly and uniting in a common outlet at the front of the body, the upper tubular portion uniting with the lower tubular portion in front of the valve seat, a plug valve fitted in the valve seat and having ports extending diametrically through in parallel relations and movable. into and out of registry with the respective passages.
In a faucet of the class described, a valve body havin upper and lower tubular portions provide with passages extending longitudinally therethrough, said portions being arranged to provide a plug valve seat intermediate their ends, the passages through sa'id portions being curved downs wardly and uniting in a common outlet at the front of the body, the upper tubular portion uniting with the lower tubular portion in front of the valve seat, a plug valve fitted in the valve seat and having ports extending dialnetrically through in parallel relations and movable into and out of registry with the respective passages, and a shut-off valve between the rear end of the lower passage. and the plug valve.
.3. In a faucet of the class described, a valve body having upper and lower tubular portions provided with passages extending longitudinally therethrough, each portion being provided with a valve seat, a plug valve in said seats and having openings therethrough adapted to be brought into and out of registry with the passages, the said upper and lower portions being curved downwardly at their forward ends and uniting in a common outlet, both of said outlets being in front of the plug valve, and a pair of clean-out plugs each aligned with the horizontal portions of a respective passage where-by said plugs are adapted to permit the cleaning of the horizontal portions of both passages throughout their entire lengths.
In testimony whereof I aix my signature in presence o two witnesses.
