IMPROVEMENT IN CHlMNEY-TOPS,

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 15 1,759, dated June 9, 1874; application filed April 1e, 1814 To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM HERVEY GoN- NOB, of Muscatine, in the county of Muscatine and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Chimney-Tops, of which the following is a specification:

In the accompanying` drawing, Figure l is an elevation, showing the open or leeward side of the cap over the chimney. Fig'. 2 is a vertical section of Fig. 1, taken on the line x Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.

A represents the chimney or Ilue. Bis the cap. In this example of my invention the cap is in pyramidal form, arranged on the vertical spindle C, .with its base D at an angle of fortyive degrees, (more or less.) E is the vane, which is attached to the upper and leeward side F, while the Windward side G always presents an inclined surface to give the current of air an upward direction, and leave more or less of vacuum on the leeward side, which consequently increases the upward draft. The cap is supported on the spindle by the curved arms H, three (more or less) radiating from a common center, I, and each attached to the base ofthe cap. One of these arms is perforated with holes K, which allow the cap to be adjusted on the spindle to vary the inclination, as may be found necessary. rlhe vertical spindle O is supported by a bar, J, across the top ofthe chimney, the ends of the bar being bent down and fastened to the outside of the chimney, as seen in the drawing. rIhis cap may be Inade in any manner suitable for the purpose, so as to'cover the openings of the chimney or flue, and turn freely on an up right spindle guided by a vane to present its open side to leeward and present its opposite inclined side to the wind, substantially as shown in the drawing.

claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A conical current-guiding,` chimney-cap, on which is placed the vane, provided with arestrap H, perforated at several points, I K, to allow the Obliquity of said cap to be changed, according to the draft required.
