CIGAR LIGHTER.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS \Vnrrn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigar Lighters, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to cigar lighters and has for its principal objectto provide an electrical device for producing intense heat almost instantly.
Another important object of the invention is to provde a novel constructed core for receiving the electrical coil which is especially adapted to be used in cigar lighters or like small electrical devices of this nature.
lVith the above nd numerous other objects in view, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and the combnation and arrangement of parts as will. be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that 1 designates a base which is provided with a hollow collar 2 mounted thereon and fixed thereto by means of the screws 3. A hollow threaded member 4 is received in the upper end of the collar 2 and has threaded thereon a cup-shaped memher 5 which receives the cylindrical casing 6. An inverted cup-shaped member 7 is mounted on the upper end of the cylindrical casing 6 and receives the hollow holding member 8 which is provided with a threaded seat in its upper end for receiving a fiber cap 9 which has extending therethrough a sleeve 10 whch terminates thereabove and within the inverted cup-shaped member 7. This sleeve 10 is adapted to receive an electrode in the form of soft carbon as is shown at 11. An insulating lining 13is situated within the cylindrical casing 6 and is preferably formed of some such material as asbestos. A strand of spring wire 14 is connected to a contact plate 15 and is wound in a coil within the cylindrical casing 6. This coil indicated at 16 is disposed about a porcelain core 17 which consists of a panel body 18 which is substantially oblong and is provided with enlarged end pieces 19 that project slightly beyond the longitudinal sides of the body 18. An aperture 20 is provided in each of the projections so that the strand of wire 14 may be passed therethrough and the upper one is also adapted to receive the goose-neck connector 22 which is in contact with the hollow sleeve 10. The goose-neck connector and the end of the strand of wire 14 and the end of the goose neck connector 22 are held in place by means of the set screw 23. Another strand of wire 25 suitably encased in insulation is attached to the contact plate 26 and passes through the base 1 and collar 2 and is extended along the side of the cylindrical casing 6. The terminal of this strand of wire 25 terminates in a spool handle 26 that is formed of fiber or some other suitable insulating material and supports an electrode of soft carbon 27. The spool handle 26 is adapted to be rested in the receiver 29 when the device is not in use.
The contacts 15 and 26 are placed in connection with a suitable electric circuit whereby the coil 16 may be energized upon contact or close proximity of the carbons 11 and 27 so as to produce efficient heat at their contact points for lighting a cigar or the like.
Having thus described my invention with some degree of particularity it is to be un derstood that the present embodiment has been shown merely by way of example and that numerous changes in form, proportion, and in the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention as hereinafter claimed.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new is 1. In an apparatus of the class described, an electrode, a coil therefor, a support for housing the coil and rigidly holding the electrode, a co-operating electrode and means for supporting the co-operating electrode when not in use.

Inen apparatus, of theclass described, a base, acylindrical casing mounted on the base, an insulating core in the casing, a coil Wound about the core, anelectrode. mount: ed on the casing and in electricalconnection with the coil, a co-operating electrode, and means for supporting the co-operating electrode When not in use,
3. In a device of the class described, a base, a cylindrical casing, a pair of cup shaped members disposed at the ends ofthe cylindricalcasing, the bottom member supported on the base, a pair ofelectrodes, and a coil housed Within the casing and connected .to one only of the electrodes.
