Description
WILI'AM CZARSM, OF CUBRY, TEBBITORY OF ALASKA.
FASTENER.
appncaan med June 27, 1928. serial no. 848,159.
To all who'm, z't may concem:
Be it known that T, WILLIAM CzARsKI, .a subject of Canada, residing at Curry, Territory of Alaska, has invented a new and useful Fastener, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in fasteners having double gripping ends.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a fastener for various purposes, such as connecting together all phable materials, hanging up apparel or securing apparel on a person.
This invention also consists in certain other features ofI construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, tovbe hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing -my invention in detail, reference Will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in Which:--
In the drawingsz* Figure 1 is. a rear elevation of the invention.
i F igure 2 is a front view thereof.
Figure 3 is 3a similar view showing the parts in open position.
Figure 4 is a similar view of one part of the invention.
Figure 5 is a similar view of the other part.
Figure 6 is an edge elevation.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the reference numeral 1 broadly indicates one part of the invention or the supporting body thereof, and the numeral 2 the other part which is pivotally secured to the supporting body through the medium of the pivot pin 3.
The supporting body 1 is provided with enlarged ends 4 and 5 respectively while the portion 6 thereof is elongated and pivotally receives the part 2 midway its ends, as clearly shown in Figure 3 of the drawings. The part 2 is formed somewhat in the same config'uration as the supporting body, with the exception'that the enlarged end 7 thereof is relatively smaller than its Companion end 4 of the supportin body, but the end 8 of the part 21s of tie same size as the iends ormed thereon .and cooperating with ends 4 and 5 and are of the same Outline. The ends 4 and 7 are operatively associated while the ends 5 and 8 are adapted to function in a like m'anner. Formed in the end 4 there is a transverse, elongated opening 9 adapted to receive a loop element of any 00 character provided it is of suflicient size to be received therein. Arranged below the elongated opening 9, the end 4 is provided with a serrated surface IO for operating with a like serrated surface formed on the, 35 relatively small end 7 of the part 2. The serrated portion of the end 4 is cammed as shown so that a gripping association is provided between the ends 7 and 10, When they are associated.
The ends 5 and 8 cooperate vas above mentioned and for this purpose the end 8 is provided with the cammed surface and rising from this surface there is a pair of substantially V-shaped teeth 11 varranged in spaced relation With respect to each other and adapted to be received in cam shaped grooves 12 formed on-the end 8 of the part 2.
From the above and the structure as shown in the drawings, it will be apparent that the fastener is provided with a pair of gripping ends which may simultaneously function to connect two articles together or one gripping end may be used singly in securlng strips of sheets of material in superposed relation.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
T desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of theeseveral parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim as new is A fastener of the Character described comprising a body 'porti0n, enlarged ends formed thereon, a serrated cammed surface formed in one endl and arranged adjacent an .elongated opening, substantially 'V- shaped teeth formed on the opposite enlarged end, a part piviotally secured to the body ortion midway its ends, and enlarged the enlarged ends of the body portion as for the Purpose spec. k I
