GAME TABLE.

Application filed January 18, 1824.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, THEODORE R. TREIBER, a citizen of the United States, residing in Chicago, in the county of Cook, State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Game Tables, of which the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of the specification.

My invention relates particularly to billiard and pool tables although not limited to this use alone.

One feature of the invention relates to a strong and simple. means for securing the cushion rails of a table to the slate bed thereof which does not require boring into the edges of the slate andwhich secures the cushions at the top of the slate thereby effecting a more solid support for the cushion rails.

Another feature of the invention relates to a table bed structure in which the slate bed is reinforced at the sides thereof in a simple and effective manner whereby'the danger of breakage of the slate, particularly at the sides thereof, by reason of the frangible character of the slate is reduced to a great extent.

With these features in view my invention consists in certain features of novelty in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts by which the said features and certain other features, hereinafter appearing, are effected, all as fully described with reference to the accompanying drawing and more particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the said drawing- Figure l is a partial top plan view of a game table embodying my invention and with parts broken away.

Figure 2 is an enlarged section of the bed structure as shown in Fig. 1.

The cushion rail cloth 13 is secured at the upper surface of the cushion rails by the usual locking strips 1.5 forced into longitudinal grooves in the cushion rails with the cushion cloth wrapped therearound.

The bolts 7 and nuts 8 additionally clamp the bed and strips 3 and 1, and it will be observed that by reason of the cushion rails being secured at the top of the bed they are solidly supported on the bed particularly with respect to resisting the stresses incident to balls 16 striking the cushions and persons sitting on the cushion rails.

It will be observed that the balls 16 do not roll over the strips 3 by reason of the cushions 17 projecting over the strips.

In the use of the term slate or slates I do not wish my invention to be specifically limited thereto as the invention is adapted to table beds of any frangible material. but have used these terms for the reason that slate is the material of which game table beds are universally made at the present.

While I have herein shown and particularly described the preferred embodiment of my invention 1 do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction shown as changes may readily be made without departing from the spirit of my invention, but having thus described my invention I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent the followingz-- 1. In a means for sccilring a cushion rail to a slate table bed the combination of: cooperating cushion rail securing members and means cooperating with a vertically extending bore in the table bed for securing one of said securing members with the table bed above the same.

2. In a means for securing a cushion rail to a slate table bed the combination of cooperating cushion rail securing members including a bolt member adapted to engage in a horizontal transverse bore in the cushion rail and means for securing one of said members with the table bed above the same, including a second bolt member disposed normal to saidcfirst mentioned bolt member and adapted to engage in a vertical bore in the table bed.

3. In a means for securing a cushion rail to a table bed the combination of a nut member, a screwthreaded bolt adapted to engage in a horizontal transverse bore in the cushion rail and cooperate with the nut member for securing the rail, a second nut member, and a second screwthreaded bolt disposed normal to said first mentioned bolt and adapted to engage in a vertically extending bore in the table bed and cooperate with said second mentioned nut member to secure one of said first mentioned cooperating members with the table bed above the same 4;. In a means for securing a cushion rail to a slate table bed the combination of anut member, a headed screwthreaded bolt adapted to engage in a. horizontal transverse bore in the cushion rail and cooperate with the nut member for securing the rail, a second nut member, and a second screwthreaded bolt disposed normal to said first mentioned bolt and adapted to engage in a vertically extending bore in the table bed and cooperate with said second mentioned nut member to secure the first mentioned nut member with the table bed above the same.

In a game table the combination with a slate table bed, of strips of suitable metal arranged along the sides of the bed above the same, and means for securing cushion rails with the bed including bolts passing through respective registering vertical bores through the strips andbed at intervals along the sides of the bed.

In a game table the combination with a slate table bed, of strips of suitable metal arranged along the sides of the bed above the same, a plurality of cushion rail securing means arranged at intervals along the sides of the bed on top of said strips, and means for securing said cushion rail securing means with the bed including bolts engaged in respective registering vertical bores through the strips and bed at intervals along the sides of the bed.

8. In a game table the combination with a slate table bed provided with a marginal step in the top surface thereof at each side of metal strips of suitable material set in said steps and having their top surfaces alined with the normal top surface of the bed, a plurality of cushion rail securing means arranged at intervals along the sides of the bed at the top of the strips, and means for securing said cushion rail securing means With the bed including bolts passing through respective registering bores through the strips and bed at intervals along the sides of the bed.

9. In a game table the combination With a slate table bed provided With a marginal step in the top surface. thereof at each side, of steel strips set in said steps and having their top surfaces alined with the normal top surface of the bed, a plurality of headed screwthreaded bolts passing through respective registering vertical bores in the strips and table bed at intervals along the sides of the bed, said bolts having their heads. above the strips and having screwthreaded bores in the heads thereof disposed on axes normal to the axes of the bolts, nuts screwthreaded on respective bolts underneath the bed for clamping the strips and bed together, and additional headed screwthreaded bolts adapted to engage in respective horizontal transverse bores in respective cushion rails and to engage in re' spective of said screwthreaded bores for securing the cushion rails with the table bed.

10. In a game table the combination with i a slate table bed provided with a marginal step in one of the horizontal surfaces there of, of a strip of suitable metal set in said step, and means for securing said strip set in said step .to the bed including bolts engaged in respective of vertical bores in the table bed at intervals along said step.

11. In a game table the combination With a slate table bed provided with a marginal step in the top surface thereof, of a strip of suitable metal set in said step, headed screwthreaded bolts passing through respective registering bores through the strip and bed at intervals along said step and having the heads thereof countersunk in the upper surface of the strip, and nuts screwthreaded on respective bolts underneath the. bed and cooperating with the bolts for securing the strip set in said step to the bed.

12. In a game table the combination with a slate table bed provided with a marginal step in the top surface thereof, of a strip of suitable metal set in said step and having its top surface alined with the normal top surface of the bed, a Wood strip arranged along the corresponding side of the table underneath the same, headed screwthreaded bolts passing through respective registering vertical bores in the metal strip, the table bed and the wood strip at intervals along said step and having their heads countersunk in the upper surface of the metal strip, and nuts screwthreaded on respective bolts underneath the Wood strip for securing the metal strip, the bed and the Wood strip together.

13. In a game table the combination with a slate table bed, of strips of suitable metal arranged along the sides of the bed above the same, tacking strips arranged along the sides of the bed underneath the same, and means for securing the metal strips, the bed and the tacking strips together including bolts engaged in respective registering vertical bores through the metal strips, the bed and the tacking strips at intervals along the sides of the bed.

14. In a game table the combination with a slate table bed provided With a marginal step in the top surface thereof at each side, of steel strips set in said steps, Wood tacking strips arranged along the sides of the bed underneath the same, and means for securing the metal strips, the bed and the tacking strips together including bolts engaged in respective registering vertical bores through the metal strips, the bed and the Wood strips at intervals along the sides of the bed.

15. In a game table the combination with a slate table bed provided With a marginal step in the top surface thereof at each side, of metal strips of suitable metal set in said steps and having their top surfaces alined With the normal top surface of the bed, Wood strips arranged along the sides of the bed underneath the. same, headed screwthreaded bolts passing through respective registering vertical bores in the metal strips, the bed and the Wood strips at intervals along the sides of the bed and having their heads countersunk in the upper surfaces of the metal strips, and nuts screwthreaded on respective bolts underneath the Wood strips for securing the metal strips, the bed and the Wood strips together.

16. In a game table the combination With a slate table bed comprising separate pieces disposed in edge to edge relation longitudinally of the bed, of strips of suitable metal arranged along the. sides of the bed above the same and extending across the opposing edges of the pieces of the bed at the longitudinal sides thereof, Wood tacking strips arranged along the sides of the bed underneath the same, and means for securing the metal strips, the bed and the WOOCl strips together including bolts engaged in respective registering vertical bores through the metal strips, the bed and the WOOCl strips at intervals along the sides of the bed, said bolts being so disposed that the metal strips along the longitudinal sides of the bed are secured to each piece of the bed which they overlie.

17. In a game table the combination with a slate table bed comprising separate pieces disposed in edge to edge relation longitudinally of the bed, said bed being provided with a marginal step in the top surface thereof at each side, of strips of suitable metal set in, aid steps and having their top surfaces alined with the normal top surface of the bed, wood strips arranged along the sides of the bed underneath the same, headed screwthreaded bolts passing through respective registering vertical bores through the metal strips, the bed and the wood strips at intervals along the sides of the bed and having their heads countersunk in the upper surfaces of the metal strips, and nuts screwthreaded on respective bolts underneath the wood strips for securing the metal strips, the bed and the wood strips together, said bolts being so disposed that the metal strips along the longitudinal sides of the bed are secured to each piece of the bed which they overlie.

18. In a game table the combination with a slate table bed, of steel strips arranged along the sides of the bed above the same, means for securing said strips to the table including a plurality of bolts engaged in respective registering vertical bores through the strips and bed at intervals along the sides of the bed. and means for securing cushion rails with the bed including additional bolts passing through respective additional registering vertical bores through the strips and bed at intervals along the sides of the bed and spaced longitudinally of the sides of the bed with respect to the first mentioned bores.

19. In a game table the combination with a slate table bed provided with a marginal step in the top surface thereof at each side, of strips of suitable metal set in said steps and having their top surfaces alined with the normal top surface of the bed, headed screwthreaded bolts passing through respective registering bores in the strips and bed at intervals along the sides of the bed and adjacent the inner edges of the strips and having their heads countersunk in the upper surfaces of the strips, nuts screwthreaded on the bolts underneath the bed for clamping the strips and bed together, and means for securing cushion rails with the bed in cluding additional bolts passing through re spective additional registering vertical bores through the strips and bed at intervals along the sides of the bed and between the first mentioned bores and the outer edges of the strips and spaced longitudinally of the sides of the table with respect to the first mentioned bores.

20. In a game table the combination with a slate table bed provided with a marginal step in the top surface thereof at each side, of steel strips set in said steps and having their top surfaces alined with the normal top surface of the bed, tacking strips arranged along the sides of the bed underneath the same, headed sorewthreaded bolts passing through respective registering bores in the metal strips, the bed and the tacking strips at intervals along the sides of the bed and having their heads countersunk in the upper surfaces of the metal strips, nuts screwthreaded on the bolts underneath the tacking strips for clamping the-metal strips, the bed and the tacking strips together, and means for securing cushion rails with the bed including additional headed screwthreaded bolts passing through respective additional registering vertical bores 1n the metal strips, the bed and the tacking strips, and additional nuts screwthreaded on said additional bolts for clamping the metal strips, the bed, and the tacking strips between these additional nuts and the heads 121 of said additional bolts.

21. In a game table the combination with a slate table bed provided with a marginal step in the top surface thereof at each side,
