CONTAINER FOR OIL OR OTHER LIQUID.
Application filed June 26, 1923. Serial No. 647,927.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that'I, KATE LANGDON Cox, a subject of the King of England, and aresident of Devonshire Parish, Bermuda, claim to have invented certain Improvements in Containers for Oil or Other Liquid, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawing, is'a specification, like numerals on the drawing designating like parts.
This invention has for its object the production of a container of high efficiency, primarily intended for receiving, containing and permitting the ready removal of kerosene oil, such oil being received in tins of commerce, but it will be understood that I contemplate its utilization in any field where it may be applied with advantage by reason of the nature of my improvements.
These improvements lie principally in the line of durability of construction, convenience of access, and of still greater imortance absolutely containing the oil or uid without same leaking, and yet permitting a ready flow should it be desired, by the tap or cook shown in the illustration.
The device may be, entirely of metal, or of wood and metal as shown. The various features of my invention will be fully illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specification, and pointed out in theclaim.
In the accompanying drawing the figure is a view in sectional elevation of an'oil container in the construction of which my 5 improvements have been embodied.
In the embodiment of my invention. selected for illustration and described as a convenient form to enable a ready and complete understanding of my improvement, the
part designated by the numeral (1) may be called the outer casing, and the inner casing of the actual container (2) is of metal and is made of such a size as to readily receive an ordinary kerosene oil tin.
This container is made oil tight, except at the top, which is open and at the bottom which is perforated to receive the piercing spigot (3).
This spigot (3), which is made of metal,
terminates at its upper end in a sharp cone. to The central portion is of cylindrical section and perforated as shown. A shoulder or collar is provided at the lower portion of this cylinder, and the bottom end is threaded to receive a nut The spigot (3) is inserted in the perforation at the lower end of container (2), and secured and made oil tight by a Washer 12, and by means of the nut (4). A suitable casting (5) is provided and secured to the lower end of spigot, and the tube (6) is fitted and secured to convey the oil to the cock (7) A cover (8) is provided as shown, with knob or handle (9) and a puncturing pin (10).
In operation the cover (8) is removed and the commercial tin oil container is-placed within the container (2).
When the oil tin comes in contact with the member (3), such tin is punctured by the pressure exerted at the top, and passing over puncturing member (3), rests on the bottom of the container (2).
The cover (8) is then placed on the casing (1) and pin (10) readily forced in the top of the commercial oil tin. The cover (8) is then removed and turned ninety degrees and again placed on the casing."
This action permits the passage of air through the hole punctured by pin (10) and thereby preventing any formation of vacuum which otherwise would result from the drawing off of any oil through the cock Any oil escaping around the puncture ma e by the member (3) is contained without leak by the casing (2). The oil or fluid can then be drawn off at convenience in any quantities desired through the cock (7).
Having thus fully described my improvements, it will be understood that I do not limit myself to the specific embodiment of the invention utilized herein nor in general, otherwise than is set forth in my claim read in connection with this specification. Having thus described my lnvention, what I claim as new and what I desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
In a device of the class described, a portable container housing having an opening container having a vent perforating memin its bottom, a metal lining in said conher thereon. 10
tainer covering said opening, a can perfo- Signed at Bermuda on the 20 day of June rating member having a passage formed 1923. v
therein aflixed through said opening to said I metal lining and communicating with the KATE LANGDON interior thereof, said member communicat- Witness:
ing With a delivery conduit, a cover for said VIG ORIEE HOUNERE.
