This invention relates to casting machines, and more particularly to casting machines in which the. mold or die is adapted to receive an object before the mold is filled with molten metal so that such object will be imbedded in the casting.
One of the objects of this invention is to facilitate the casting of metal around small parts, such asscale pivot bearings, which are usually of agate orother'hard non-metallic material which is liable to beinjured by subjection to intense heat. 7
Another object is to provide means for clamping the agate bearing'or other part in the mold in such manner that it will always assume a centered position irrespective of small variations in its size and shape. 7 I 1 Still another object is to provide means for simultaneouslybringing a plurality of clamping blocks constituting parts of a mold into engagement with the article around which metal isto be cast.
Other objects and advantages will be ap parent from the following description, in which reference is had to the accompanying drawings illustrating a preferred embodiment of my invention and wherein similar reference numerals designate similar parts throughout the several views.

Centrally locatedwith respect to the base 1 is a hardened block .7. having a wedgeshapedupper portion which is adapted to receive the V-shaped groove of an agate o 11 and 12 which are adapted to fit loosely in slots or kerfs in the rectangular blocks 9 and '9( and are pinned or otherwise loosely secured therein. The clamping member 10 is movable in a direction to forcethe blocks 9" and 9" toward the bearing, the direction of its movement being substantially at right. angles to the direction of. movement of an adjacent clamping member Which is loosely connected to the same blocks and movable toward the bearing so that the. clamping members tend to move the blocks 9 and-9" toward each other as well as toward the'opposing pair of blocks 9 and 9. From the foregoing it will be understood that each-of the clamping blocks is moved to clamp the agate firmly in position irrespective ofvdeviation in the agate from rectangular shape and predetermined dimensions.
The member 10 is pivotally connected to aslidable member 16 which is substantially T-shaped in section (see Figure 6). The member 16 is adapted to slide in ways in the bars or strips l7,these being securely fas tened to the base 1 by means of screws 18.
Positionedonthe under side of the base is a pair of operating levers 19 and 20, both of which are pivoted upon a screw 21, the axis of the screw being beneath the center of the block 7. "The members 19 and 20 each have a pair of oppositely disposed slots 24 curved eccentrically with respect to the screw 21.
