- TOWEL CABINET.
` application mea may 24, 1920. serial Nq. 383,781.
To all whomit may co/noem: s
Be it knownthat I, FRANK M. STELNER,
a citizen of the United States, resident of llVIinneapolis9 county of Hennepin, State yof Minnesota, have invented 'certain new and useful Improvements in Towel Cabinets,`of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide ay Ifolls towel cabinet from which all gears, n 10 and other devices which add to the expense of the cabinet are eliminated. .y AA further object is tok provide a cabinet adapted to receive the bolt of toweling folded livery tothe user,` and thereby the laborand time required for winding the towel on a roll is avoided. y p A further objecty is toprovide a cabinet of such construction of the towel can not possibly come in contact and be contaminated by the soiled pori tion of the towel'. i v n A further object is to provide a cabinet which will be easily accessible for the purpose of'placing a clean towel therein and which will allow the convenient Vremoval of the s oiled towel. v s
yOther, objects of the invention will kappear from the following detailed description.
The invention lconsists generally in various constructionsand combinations, all as hereinafter described and particularly pointed out inthe claims.
'In' the accompanying drawings forming l is l a vertical sectional view Figure V a towelv cabinet embodying my inthrough vention,
Figure 2 is a 40 net. l
` Figure?, is a sectional viewof a cabinet embodying a modified construction,
Figure 4 is a similar view, showing the i vbolt ofv towelingv wound on a roll instead of folded back and forth upon itself within the compartment'of the cabinet.
In the drawings,` 2 represents a` suitable cabinet of wood, having a closed top and bottom and side walls and adapted to be front elevation of the cabi- .50 mounted on a suitable support. Within this frequently is done.'
-compartment and over ,this
as it comes from the mangle forA de-v that the clean portionV mounted on the door andI adapted to bear on cabinet' isa space or compartment k3 that is adapted to receive the bolt of toweling 4 folded as discharged .by the-ironing maf chine lfor delivery tothe customer. The
towel yin ythis folded kform is'deliveredby the ylaundry tothe place 'where the cabinet: is located and inserted into the chamber .ory f.
compartment, all without the necessity of y refolding or r,winding the towel` on a roll, as
. A partition 5 forms one side Wall of the'y artition one end of thertowel is fed between he partition and a door 6 .that forms the front of the cabinetl andthrough which, when open byturning on the hinges shown in Fig. 2, the clean towel is inserted. A weighted arm .7. is hinged at 8 on the rear wall'of the cabinet andis adapted to rest on the upper endvoffthe partition 5. This arm serves to retard the feedof the-towel and providessuiiieient friction to prevent the towel from sliding out ofthe compartment when the; door ofk the cabinet is open. Pressure springs 9 are 76 the 'towel and hold itl against the partition 5 with sufficient friction to resist any unnecessary or unusual feed of the towel when 4the cabinet -is'in use.
I prefer also to place a bracket Vor plate 10 on the lower endl of thendoor adapted to engage the towel and pressin inwardly so that when lthe used portion ofthe towel fis released, it` will be directed into the recep-r tacle l1 beneath` where the towel will accu-85 mulate until entire y used and then be re,- moved and taken back vto the laundry. y i
The receptaclell preferably Vhas an inclinedj forward wall 12l` to provide a'V wide mouth or opening for the receptacle and preferably projects'beyond the front of the cabinetr so that when the user releases the Y towel it will drop by gravity into the receptacle and the inwardly projecting bracket- V10 will aid in keeping the clean portion of 95 sliding` n p In igure 3 I have shown a casing 13 having a partition 5u therein corresponding to the one described with reference tothe other figures and a chamber 3a in which the folded bolt of toweling is'placed, the free end of the toweling'being carried over the partition 5a' down through the space 13 in the lrear of the ypartition and through an opening 14 in the bottom of the casing: The sliding of the towel out of the casing 1s prevented by the weighted arm 7a that is mounted in the top of the cabinet and has a lower portion that is adapted to bear on theltoweling. Access to the cabinet may be h ad in any suitable way, by means of a door 1n the top `or side walls, as preferred. The receptacle beneath corresponds to the one described and I will indicate it by the same reference figures.
The principal difference in 'thet'vvo constructions is that the partition is in the rear of 'the cabinet so that the toweling is de-` livered adjacent the rear wall instead at the front of the cabinet. The towel, when used,
is allowed'to drop into the receptacle beneath anda 'clean portion vwill always be within convenient reach ofthe person standing in front of the cabinet.
- n Figure 4 a similar construction is shown, except that the bolt of toweling instead of being folded back and forth as it comes from the ironing machine, is wound on a roll 15 that is supported by a suitable means within the casing where it may de'- liver the Lend of the towel in the rear of the partition to a point where the user may conveniently .grasp itland unwind a suilicient amount ,forhis needs. 'f
A similar weighted arnra' is shown mounted in the top of the casing and .adapted 'to bear on the bolt of toweling as it passes over the rearpartition.
In all these constructions `simplicity of construction is n a predominating feature. Gears, drive belts and operating mechanism of various kinds have been eliminated, it being only necessary in filling the lcabinet to place the folded bolt of toweling therein, extend the loose end over the partition to a point where it can beconveniently reached by the user, close the door of the cabinet and the device is ready for use. This bolt of toxveling forms in effect a series of individual towels joined together. It is the most convenient and cheapest lforni of towel to handle in the laundry. lt is not necessary to wind it on a roll and it may be placed in the cabinet in folded forni as delivered by the ironing machine.
- I claim as my invention:
l. A towel cabinet comprising a casing having aspace therein to receive a bolt of toweling, a wall mounted in said casing and over which the loose end of the bolt of toweling is fed, a door having means for no rmally pressing the toweling against sald wall to resist feed of the toweling, an arm mounted to beary on they toweling, and check thepfeed thereof when the door is open, the loose end of the bolt of toweling depending outside the casing within convenient reach of the user and falling cabinet as the toweling is used.

A towel cabinet comprising a casing having a door in the vfront thereof and a space within the casing adapted to receive a bolt oftoweling, a guide interposed between said door and the space for the toweling and over which the loose end of the towel is fed to the user, vsaid door having means thereon for exerting a yielding pressure on the towel'to prevent premature feedthereof, the towel being delivered by the pull of the user thereon. n l
3. A towel cabinet comprising a casing, a door therefor, said casing having a space therein to receive a bolt of toweling, the free end of the towel being fed from said casing between said space and door, a'soiled towel receptacle'whe'rein the towel falls when released by the user, and means adjacent said casing for pressing y of the towel inwardly so that when the web of towel below said'pressing means is used and released, it will ceptacle.
4. A towel cabinet comprising a casing adapted to be supported on the wall and having a floor, rear, and side walls a front door and a closedA top, said iioor having a gap or opening therein at one side, an uprightv partition on said floor adjacent said gap, between which upright partition and the'front door of said casing a chamber for the clean towel bolt is formed, the web of clean towel resting on the upper edge of said partition and passing down through said gap to 4a point within convenient reach of the user, and an arm pivoted at one endin said casing and adapted to rest by gravity at its other end over the partition upon the web of towel the end of said arm being supported by said partition, the weight of said arm on said towel resisting its sliding movement on said partition and retarding the delivery of the clean web of towel.
the loose depending endy be directed into said re-` y bolt of toweling, a wall'mounted vertically venient reach of theuser, a door forming 10 in said compartment and projecting above the outer wall of said space, and means the bolt of toweling therein, said wall havmounted on said door for pressin the town ing an upper ed e on which the Jfree end of cling against the said wall to yiel 'ngly re- 5 the bolt of towe ing is adapted to rest and sist th'e too rapid feed of the towel from the slide, and said cabinet having a space and cabinet. 15 an opening on the opposite side of said well In witness whereof, I have hereunto set from the bolt cf toweling through which the myhand this 19th day of May 1920. loose end is adapted to depend within con- FRAN K M.
